hey guys, just wanna ask is renewing coe for 10 years worth it? seeking opinions thts all. currently my bike is a fbb bike. expiring early 2017. so is renewing 10 years on my current bike worth it or buy another second hand bike? thanks!!

 

Its worth it if your bike is in a very good condition and you need the bike for transport. But then again to each its own.

Next is Need or Want, some are buying it leave at carpark seldom ride or as a second/third transport, these are people that eventually rise the COE price for nothing!

 

Majority of new bikes registered are 2B bikes, even when COE at current levels. Would you say these are bought by people with need or want?

 

If the person 'needs' the bike, they will buy irregardless of what COE levels are, so who is 'contributing to the rise of coe price for nothing'?

 

Implement 50% downpayment, max loan 5 yrs, and you will see coe drop drastically, showing again whether its the 'needers' or 'wanters' driving the price for nothing, as you so put

 

End of the day, no point blaming whoever for high coe. Simple fact is supply is cut, therefore in 'free market', price will go up as we have more demand than supply.

 

COE is not an entitlement....those that cant afford will naturally be priced out, thats how the economy works. Whether its fair or not is another issue altogether but unfortunately thats how it works in many societies

 

Instead of whining and complaining and blaming others, better to put more effort to make more money =P

 

The days of 2k coe are no longer here....i think maybe many yrs ago, when coe was 500+, ppl also complained the days of $1 motorbike coe are no longer here heheh

I will renew, cos I find many second hand bikes asking price is ridiculous. Unless u can find the few with reasonable asking price.

Well, for second hand bikes, it's always willing buyer willing seller. Those "reasonably priced" ones tend to be snapped up quickly. For example, I saw a 2013 CBR150R going for $7000 sometime late last year. I wanted to buy, but haven't gotten my 2B yet. It was sold within a few days. I bought my bike within 2 days of being listed because it was reasonably priced. In fact, there was someone who actually indicated interest before me. But since he wanted to "book" it and cannot confirm (no deposit), and I was able to confirm immediately, it was sold to me.

 

So the whole idea is to wait and fish for the good deals. There are many sellers only testing the market. Some of them actually want to upgrade, but only on contingent of getting a high price for their existing bikes. With the high COE prices now, many of them may not even make that switch.

 

The genuine sellers will try to hold their prices (well, every seller wants to sell for as high a price as possible), until they really need to let go. So some of them will then lower their expectations and prices.

 

So far, those "reasonable deals" are usually from owners who have already committed to a new machine and need to get rid of their existing machine quickly. Sure have one... just keep eye opened.

Haha..some ppl here ride miserable puny phantom but speak as if their pockets are deep deep but keep saying 2nd hand bikes asking prices all ridiculous. No $ say no $, ppl wont laugh at that person one. But if no $, dun lurk ard in the forum asking qns abt those big mean machines. Biggest joke is telling others not many will appreciate a 22 yo phantom? Is tat a car or bike he is actually talking abt? Appreciate a phantom? Oh pls..haha. Seen many thick skin ppl but this is my first time seeing one commented no one appreciate his 22 yo phantom.

His twin bro teambhp (who claim he has no parents so no manners here) didnt seems to be active nowadays providing us entertainment anyway. Your version of phantom is diff here but I find this kzone poor thing, got $ to renew only but no $ for new machine price then say used bike price ridiculous, but can boast he is ok with $12k coe. If he is ok with 12k coe, he wont say used bike price ridiculous cos he will be in that league where he could afford any bike. A pretender who goes ard entertaining himself.

many good observations about the resale prices such as lkm's post on this page and discussions on COE such as filtered above. These are the posts that make me come in here to read.. sometimes I post as well so bros here know there are people like me out there, with my thinking. I doubt I'm unique so don't dismiss my thoughts as the only idiot with such thoughts.

yeah.. but the thing is... even if it dropped to 4K, the impact to monthly payment for those who buy new is quite minimal. Maybe that's y ppl r driving up the COE prices.

 

for example.. budget is 20K for bike. But because of the high COE, it now cost 24K. By paying 20K upfront and loan 4K, u can stretch the payment to less than $100 monthly. don't think people will stop buying bikes becos of the increase in COE.

True enough. They will buy it and when they cannot maintain it they will sell it. Either back to shop or COI. Seen many bikes for COI online.
