Hi All

I was looking around for a 2A cruiser when I chanced upon the Suzuki Intruder and it was love at first sight. I would love to make it mine but I am concern about having to restore and maintain the bike ie. parts and expertise. What should I look out for?

Would love to get some advise from Intruder Lovers like myself.

Thanks

Its really sad that no one brings in the Intruder here anymore.

The new Intruder model does not deviate much from the old ones but still a beauty whenever u see the old ones on Spore roads.

I even came across an uncle riding one SHINY SPARKLING Intruder that hurts my eyes under the bright noon sun da! Awesome guy! Really.

As for spare parts I dun think its easy to find em here locally.

Expert mechanics for the old Intruder? No worries. Its still a Jepunese cruiser. Makes no diff.

Oh ya, things you have to lookout for are:

1. worn out shaft drive.

2. slipping(worn out) clutch

3. corroded/rusty rims & spokes

4. rusty exhaust pipes (worst if got some lobangs)

5.

If you cannot test ride, forget it!

I think I saw one at CHIP HUAT Motors. The shop is the same row with Guan Hoe Cheong at Seranggoon.

My advice ----> dun even think abt buying from that shop bro. No. No sir-ree.

Intruder, good looking bike to be customised as by her nature, she got lotsa chrome parts. good frame and fork setup for further mod.

Shaft drive is a PLUS, but beware of worn shaft (very rare) repair cost. Aged Intruder may have knocky engine if not taken care and over abuse.

Conclusion, nice bike. Buy it if the condition is good and not too noisy on the engine part. Ride her like what she should be (a 400cc still a 400cc, don't ride her like her bigger bro, the 800cc)

Enjoy your ride! :thumb:

o_O o_O o_O Who is asking for me? :cheeky:

Ok, As what were mentioned above... also if your arse is big then Intruder is not suitable for you as Intruder seat is narrow compare to the comfty Shadow.

However, Intruder's engine braking efficiency is high due to it is shaft driven. No tightening chain's hassle and no need to replace the drive chain periodically. No chain lub splashing problem too. Hard (tor-ky) pickup (you can feel real pull channel to you by the rear wheel, no chain lag.

Of course, if shaft kaput, then big cost too, workmanship, spareparts and time will be a headache. 21inch front is a good factor if you plan to make it a good customised bike.

Change to drag bar will enchance the look and handling but in the cost of ride comfort.....

Sold mine to noisy engine on the cam area. Maybe as mentioned i have abused my Intruder too much. :dozed:

Demon, what have you modifed on the bike? It looks very good. How long have you had it? Is it possible to restore the pillon seat?

I took over the bike in Nov 2006.

My plan was to give it a dragster look, but still retain the classic chopper profile.

The rail at the rear fender, and backrest and pillon seat were removed. Tear drop shape signal lights.

The fork was lengthened by 4". 30 degrees sweep drag bar on 7" riser. Mod on the mufflers inter-link pipe to give at a more obvious rumble note.

As practical as possible, all screws and nuts replaced with stainless steel hex screws and nuts.

This bike has passed inspection in this setup.

The pillon seat has been re-wrapped, and it can be mounted back but I haven't given it any thoughts.

I just bought a 96' Suzuki Intruder VS400, second day riding lost gears. Its at Choong Kok Agency now. I will update as soon as I have details. Anyway, like the look of the bike, the only thing I have issue with right now is the foot controls. I need to get them moved way forward, I am 6ft tall and the man I bought it from was very short....

Update - CKA replaced the clutch....not going to discuss the pricing of said service but I will not be going back to the shop -

Found a great shop but further from my house...and it just so happened it's the same shop the previous owner used but the mechanics never said a a word until i ran into the previous owner there. So, I feel I'm in good hands at Sing Ming Auto, Second level next to elevator.
