Dear Mr XX,

RE: NUMBER PLATE QUERIES

FEEDBACK NUMBER: XXXXX

We refer to your feedback dated XX-XXX-XXXX.

2 We would like to inform you that the vehicle number plate shall be placed not more than 1 metre from the ground in a vertical position. The number plate normally has white, silver or light grey letters and figures on a black background. However, if the number plate is made of reflex reflecting material, the front number plate will consist of black letters and figures on a white background; and the rear number plate will consist of black letters and figures on a yellow background.

3 For the front number plate, it shall meet the following requirements:

(a) the letters and figures are 70 mm high, 50 mm wide and 10 mm broad;

(B) the space between adjoining letters and between adjoining figures shall be 10 mm;

© the space between the letters and figures shall be 20 mm;

(d) a margin between the nearest part of any letter or figure and the top or bottom of the number plate shall be 10 mm;

(e) a margin between the nearest part of any letter or figure and the sides of the number plate shall be 20 mm.

In the case of the front number plate of motorcycle, the above dimensions may be reduced by half.

4 For the rear number plate of motorcycle, it shall meet the following requirements:

(a) the letters and figures are 50 mm high, 30 mm wide and 5 mm broad;

(B) the space between adjoining letters and between adjoining figures shall be 10 mm;

© the space between the letters and figures shall be 20 mm;

(d) a margin between the nearest part of any letter or figure and the top, bottom and sides of the number plate shall be 10 mm.

5 We have no objection for you to add your name at the bottom of the number plate provided that it is not within the margin of the number plate. You are to ensure that no other figures or letters and no design advertisement or ornamentation shall be placed near the identification mark in such a manner as to be liable to render it more difficult to read or distinguish the identification mark of the vehicle when in motion.

Yours sincerely

Dear Mr XXX,

NUMBER PLATE REGULATIONS & MATERIAL USED

FEEDBACK NUMBER: 153370

Thank you for your enquiries of 30-JUN-2004.

2. We wish to inform you that the technical requirements for motorcycle licence plates used in Singapore can be found in Rule 15 and Fourth Schedule of the Road Traffic (Motor Vehicles, Registration and Licensing) Rules.

3. In summary, these rules specify that licence plates should comply with either of the following descriptions (colour code):

a) Letters and figures are white, silver or light grey on a non-reflective black background for both front and rear; or

b) Letter and figures are black on a white reflex-reflecting background for the front, and on a yellow reflex-reflecting background for the rear.

4. The front licence plates for motorcycle must also meet the following dimension specifications:

(a) The letters and figures are 35 mm high, 25 mm wide and 5 mm broad;

(b) The space between adjoining letters and between adjoining figures shall be 5 mm;

© The space between the letters and figures shall be 10 mm;

(d) A margin between the nearest part of any letter or figure and the top

or bottom of the number plate shall be 5 mm;

(e) A margin between the nearest part of any letter or figure and the sides of the licence plate shall be 10 mm.

5. The rear licence plates for motorcycle must also meet the following dimension specifications:

(a) The letters and figures are 50 mm high, 30 mm wide and 5 mm broad;

(b) The space between adjoining letters and between adjoining figures shall be 10 mm;

© The space between the letters and figures shall be 20 mm;

(d) A margin between the nearest part of any letter or figure and the top, bottom and sides of the licence plate shall be 10 mm.

(e) For licence plate that consists of 2 rows of figures and letters, the space the 2 rows shall be 10 mm.

6. No other figures or letters, design advertisement or ornamentation shall be placed near the licence plate in such a manner as to render it more difficult to read or distinguish the registration number of the motorcycle when in motion.

7. Many licence plates used in Singapore are attached to plastic licence plates holders that contain wording and brand names. We have no objection to the fixing of licence plates with such holders if it meet the above requirements. In addition, the wordings on such holders shall not contain obscenities or profanities and shall not be derogatory seditious.

8. As for your enquiry on the sticker type licence plate for the front, we have no objection to it so long as the above requirements are met. We hope we have addressed your enquiries satisfactorily, thank you.

Yours sincerely,

Just got off the phone with one of the chaps at LTA. Font and size of the sticker plate must be as stated. Only metal plate is allowed for fender, sticker is approved for usage around the windshield position only

Hahahaa sorry not familiar with the topic, I know they do approve changing of the exhaust provided you send your vehicle for inspection together with a test report (from the manufacturer) of the exhaust which was tested with the same model as your bike

I think he wants to know if its absolutely necessary to display valid road tax disc on the motorcycle.

Can it be kept on the rider or in a compartment in the bike? Or must it be dispalyed on the bike?

Let us know if u have news on this...tks mate!

Someday, home will be where my front wheel points.

The front licence plates for motorcycle rite? Those bike with fairings for example Yamaha R1 have their plates pasted on the windshield. I believe many race bikes also have their number plates on the wind shield.

How abt on SUPER 4? If i installed a windshield can i also paste the number plate on it?

Cheers!
