The North South Expressway (NSE)

 

 

The North-South Expressway starts at Bukit Kayu Hitam in the North and ends in Johor Bahru in the South, linking all major cities on the West Coast of Peninsular Malaysia between Thailand and Singapore. In addition, two other adjoining expressways complete the total 847.7 km of inter-urban toll highways referred to collectively as the North-South Expressway under PLUS' concession, namely the North Klang Valley Expressway and Federal Highway Route 2.

 

Constructed in phases over a period of seven years, the North-South Expressway was officially opened on September 8 1994 by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato' Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, signalling the coming of age of Malaysia's road transportation system. The immediate benefits of the project were most evident in reductions in congestion and travelling time experienced by expressway users, especially during festive seasons when the traditional "balik kampung" phenomenon manifests itself in the form of peak traffic volumes as Malaysians return to their hometowns to celebrate the holidays.

 

Other benefits in the form of economic development were perhaps less apparent in the early years but became more and more visible as new townships and industrial parks began to take shape along the length of the expressway and trade and tourism enjoyed a new era of growth. Today, the North-South Expressway connects to other major expressways such as the North-South Expressway Central Link (NSECL) and the Malaysia-Singapore Second Crossing (MSSC), enhancing even further the level of accessibility to the West Coast of Peninsular Malaysia via major ports of entry into the country.

Three other adjoining expressways complete the total 847.7 km of inter-urban toll highways referred to collectively as the North-South Expressway under PLUS' concession, namely the New Klang Valley Expressway, Federal Highway Route 2 and the Seremban-Port Dickson Highway.

 

1) The New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE)

The New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) is a 35-km expressway running between Kuala Lumpur (Jalan Duta) and the New Klang industrial and urban area (Bukit Raja). The NKVE is a heavily-utilised route for residents in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya, Subang, Damansara, Sungai Buloh and Klang.

 

 

2) The Federal Highway Route 2 (FHR 2)

The Federal Highway Route 2 (FHR2) is a 16-km upgraded expressway connecting Batu Tiga (Shah Alam) and Sungai Rasau (Klang). It consists of 2 toll plazas and is connected to the Federal Highway.

 

 

3) The Seremban-Port Dickson Highway (SPDH)

The Seremban-Port Dickson Highway (SPDH) is a 23-km expressway connecting Mambau in Seremban to Port Dickson. It consists of 2 toll plazas, namely Mambau and Lukut.

 

 

North-South Expressway Central Link (NSECL-ELITE)

The North-South Expressway Central Link or locally known as ELITE (Expressway Lingkaran Tengah) commences at a new interchange on the existing New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) near Shah Alam, traverse southwards through Batu Tiga on Federal Highway Route 2, towards the Kuala Lumpur International Airport at Sepang before turning eastwards to connect with the existing North-South Expressway approximately 6 km north of the existing Nilai Interchange. The North-South Expressway Central Link (NSECL) is a critical link for the NSE providing northbound and southbound travelers with an un interrupted journey bypassing the city congestion in Kuala Lumpur. The 63-km expressway connects the NKVE (at Shah Alam) to NSE (at Nilai North Interchange) and a popular route for travelers heading to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and the Sepang F1 Circuit.

 

The Expressway is divided into three sections as follows :

 

Section 1 of the Expressway, which extends from the Shah Alam Interchange (NKVE) to the USJ (Hicom East) Interchange, inclusive of the ramps in (Ebor North) and out (Ebor South) connecting the Expressway to the Batu Tiga-Puchong Road.

 

 

Section 2 which extends from just South of the USJ Interchange to the Nilai (North) Interchange and includes that part of the KLIA Expressway up to the bridge crossing Sg. Langat.

 

Section 3 includes Putra Jaya Interchange, Bandar Baru Nilai Interchange, Salak Tinggi Interchange and the -2.74 km continuation of the KLIA Expressway (KLIA Expressway Extension), just south of Sg. Langat up to the boundary of the KLIA Airport

 

 

Malaysia-Singapore Second Crossing (Secondlink)

When travelling between Singapore and Malaysia, there is no more convenient way to go than the easily accessible Second Link. Broad expressways provide a fast, smooth crossing, while the various facilities offer all the convenience and comfort you require on your journey. Second Link is the obvious choice for both people and goods crossing between Singapore and Malaysia.

 

Whether you call it the ‘Malaysia-Singapore Second Crossing’, just the ‘Second Crossing’ or even ‘Linkedua’, the Second Link refers to the bridge that spans the stretch between Singapore and Malaysia. It extends a total of 44 km from Tanjong Kupang to Senai in Johor, Malaysia and a twin deck bridge supporting a dual three-lane carriageway linking Tanjung Kupang in Johor and Tuas In Singapore.

 

The Second Link was first opened to traffic on 2 January 1998. It was officially opened on 18 April the same year by the then Prime Ministers of both countries, namely Dato' Seri Dr. Mahathir Mohamad of Malaysia and Mr Goh Chok Tong of Singapore. The Malaysia-Singapore Second Crossing heralded a new era in bilateral relations, and brought with it the promise of improved economic and social ties.

 

Today the Malaysia-Singapore Second Crossing, also known as the Second Link, provides speedy clearance and a hassle-free journey to commuters. This alternative route to the now infamous Causeway is certainly much faster, easier and safer. The Second Link is already being regarded as the obvious choice for the transportation of people and goods between Malaysia and Singapore.

Guys, I'm planning to go to Sibu Island Malaysia, ride my bike up to Mersin, park it there and by boat reach Sibu. Anybody can advice me a SAFE place where to park the bike in Mersin and be sure I can find it once back, of course I'm will to pay :-)
