Been on the GSR for almost 2.5 years. All components working fine. One even got flip before hehhehe.

 

When did you get the bike, 2nd hand? It can be caused by faulty plugs....Please correct me if wrong.

Might be:

 

1. A manufacturing defect. LPPL, poor QC on your particular bike part resulting in rather short life. Suck thumb, get replacement part. You can get a GSR600 part. Should be the same.

 

or

 

2. Your rectifier is not working correctly (not a failure), forcing your coil to work harder to make up for the lost electrical power and burning itself out. Another possibility is that there is a earth leakage somewhere along your wiring that's forcing the coil to work harder. Either way, get the mech to check if any leakages in your circuits or if your rec is working fine.

 

Just my $0.50 worth of opinion.

Well how the rider treats the bike also plays a part. The main riders here are mostly FREAKS when it comes to taking care of the bike. Even the battery can last 3yrs if taken care properly. Hahahha... Are u one of those that crank the bike continously til the bike starts? Are u one of those that install too many gadjets without proper protection? Are u one of those that just ride only but dun know 1 bit about the bike? If u are.. Then i suggest u come down to our DIY session this sunday. Read the post a few page back for more details.

Yupz my bike is nw at my wrkshop. The mechanic stripped my bike sia juz nw then mentioned dat its my coil dat needs to be replaced. he also mentioned my rectifier is ok. Oh btw i tink i fall in one of those that onli noe hw to ride larh, but dun noe anything abt it. hehe =D. oukeyy for tis Sundae i dun tink so im able to make it, got plans then no bike liao, hard to move to places. =) perhaps aftr i got my coil done up then i'll join u guys fer the next time ard. aniways thnks fer the advice.

 

OH yar one more thing... issit bcoz of the irridium spark plugs im using? coz wat they say irridium provides more power ryte? maybe too much provides too much electrical power which leads to the coil burning itself out?? *wonders*

It could happen. Greater power comes greater responsibility. Only the bike will know hahah. May I ask what brand of iridium plugs you use?

 

From the spark plugs maybe can tell the truth.
