just curious.. let say i scraping my bike. how do i retain the no. plate in order to transfer to the new bike when i find 1 or even to sell it to other.. and how long can i hold it. thanks

Qn 6: What must I do if I wish to de-register my vehicle and retain the vehicle registration number to my new vehicle?

Submit an application for retention of the vehicle registration number to LTA before de-registering the vehicle with the following:-

 

Duly completed retention application and de-registration forms;

 

$100 for the retention fee; if you subsequently decide to use the retained number on your existing vehicle, you will have to pay an additional fee of $1,200;

 

Original Road Tax disc; and

 

One of the following disposal documents:

(i)Original export documents (with Engine and Chassis Numbers clearly indicated) such as duly endorsed Cargo Clearance Permit and the non-negotiable copy of the Bill of Lading issued and duly endorsed by a recognised shipping line / company with satisfactory proof that the vehicle had been laden on board and the vessel's sailing date. The Bill Of Lading shall contain the following details:

 

* Exporter details;

* Vessel / Voyage Number;

* Port Of Discharge / Destination;

* Container / Seal Number (for vehicles stored in container);

* Engine and Chassis Numbers of vehicle being exported;

* Date vehicle is shipped / loaded on board the vessel;and

* Actual date of departure of vessel.

 

OR

(ii)Original foreign re-registration document.

Please note that:

 

You must apply to retain the vehicle registration number before:

 

* The vehicle is de-registered;

* The COE of the vehicle expires; and

* The vehicle reaches its statutory age requirement.

 

 

The retained vehicle registration number is non-transferable and can only be used to:

 

* register a new vehicle in your name; or

* replace the vehicle number of an existing vehicle registered in your name.

 

 

The retained vehicle registration number is valid for 12 months from the date of de-registration of your old vehicle. Up to two extensions of 6 months each will be allowed. An extension fee of $1,000 and an administrative fee of $20 (before GST) will be payable for each extension. Please submit in writing your request for extension of the validity period at least 7 days before the expiry date.

 

If the retained vehicle registration number is not used within its validity period, it will lapse; i.e., you will no longer be able to use the retained registration number.

 

A retained registration number cannot be cancelled.

 

No refund will be given for any payment accepted by the Registrar of Vehicles.
