Hi guys, I got some noob qns to ask... pls dun flame me. I have searched this section before i decided to post this qns, and also went thru 16 pages to look for the answers... but very little info out there.

So what I would like to know is, ok I know that msians have been buying sg bikes and riding it in msia which is possible and perfectly legal. In addition, a local billing and storage address is required.

The mentioned msian buyer is a Singapore PR as well. Bike is assumed to be more than 500cc.

1) I would like to know what type(1st, 2nd, 3rd) and country of origin(buy in sg or msia or both?) of motor insurance is required to show LTA before transfering the bike to the msian buyer?

2) And when buying the appropriate insurance be it from sg or msia, would a msia B full international license suffice?

3) Assuming the msian buyer is now the rightful owner of the bike, can he ride the bike back to msia or it has to be towed? Can he also ride the bike back to sg for annual inspection? Or the bike has to be towed for inspection?

4) Is it possible for the msian buyer to add a singaporean sub rider? If so can the sub rider ride to and fro msia and sg? Would it affect the insurance anyhow?

5) Are there any special procedures when it comes to renewing coe, road tax, and motor insurance? Any extra documents to provide?

That's abt all I wanna know... thanks for reading and hope someone can clear the doubt for me. I would greatly appreciate if someone can list out the step by step procedure.

the type of insurance would depend on the buyer him/herself. it has no link with regards to the transfer as long as there's a valid insurance on the transfer date. a singapore-based insurance will have coverage in singapore and malaysia. like wise for malaysia-based.

a singapore licence can only buy singapore based insurance, a malaysia based licence can only buy malaysia based insurance. however, an international licence would enable one to purchase either 1, provided that he/she can prove he/she is working/studying here.

and assuming the malaysian buyer has rightful ownership of the bike, there's no prob for him/her riding back the bike to malaysia. he can also ride the bike back for inspection on his own. there's no need to call for tow service, unless there's an expired road tax/insurance or both.

technically speaking, it should be able to. however so, the insurance premium would depend on the age of the youngest rider.

LTA will send you reminders with regards to the COE and road tax when it's expiring. in order to renew the road tax, you must have a valid insurance covering till the last day of the road tax.

hope it helps.

cheers!

should not be a problem with the SG PR buying the Singapore registered bike. However, insurance has to be Singapore based and the PR must have a Singapore driving licence. Once this is cleared, he/she is free to ride the bike back to M'sia. Singapore insurance covers Singapore, Peninsula Malaysia and within 50 miles of Thailand border.

just for info. (take i for example only.)

scenerio 1:

- i am singaporean and i have valid driving licence.

- i buy a bike. (no problem)

- i put my friend name in the insurance as sub-rider (no problem)

- my friend is not local but has a valid driving licence (be it a sg licence or international licence)

- my friend will be able to ride this bike everywhere and anywhere without a problem.

scenerio 2:

- my friend is in sg (either for study or work) with a valid pass. he is not pr.

- he has valid international license or he has successfully obtain a sg licence via convert procedure in TP (must sit and pass the basicTT test)

- he can buy a bike (according to his class. usually convert type will issue 2b only. but i have a class mate from germany got issue with 2a. so it really depend on the tp dept)

- after he buy insurance, he can go anywhere and everywhere he want with his bike. including riding to thailand.

scenerio 3 (regarding international licence):

- my friend is not local but got a valid international licence.

- he buy a car in sg and drive around.

- he is here for work pass

- Usually TP will ask him to get his licence convert if he is going to stay in sg for more then 6month to 1 yr. the reason is becos international license does not have demerit point system. i mean the tp want to find him for speeding but find it troublesome or etc. (plus he stay here for more then 1 yr already)

scenerio 3 (regarding international licence):

- not all country recongize international license. so u must check with the local.

- fyi, sg international license is not recongize by china gov/tp.

1) I would like to know what type(1st, 2nd, 3rd) and country of origin(buy in sg or msia or both?) of motor insurance is required to show LTA before transfering the bike to the msian buyer? any type will do, juz tat diff type hav diff coverage on the claims

2) And when buying the appropriate insurance be it from sg or msia, would a msia B full international license suffice? nope... if u gonna buy a sg insurance u nid sg license

3) Assuming the msian buyer is now the rightful owner of the bike, can he ride the bike back to msia or it has to be towed? Can he also ride the bike back to sg for annual inspection? Or the bike has to be towed for inspection? for SG license plate, u nid SG insurance to ride in SG roads.. for SG insurance u nid SG license(refer to point 2)

4) Is it possible for the msian buyer to add a singaporean sub rider? If so can the sub rider ride to and fro msia and sg? Would it affect the insurance anyhow? but in the 1st place u nid to hav SG license to buy SG insurance... hmm.. means if u got the insurance ready u can add any1 u want provided he/she got valid SG license.

5) Are there any special procedures when it comes to renewing coe, road tax, and motor insurance? Any extra documents to provide? nope, juz renew as if u were riding the bike in SG all the while

hope tis helps.......................

A malaysian can buy & ride sg bikes with no problems. as long as he rides in malaysia, he only requires a valid malaysian driving license. but in order for him to ride in sg using a sg reg bike, he'll require an international license or sg license.

For a Malaysian to buy a sg reg bike, normal procedures applies. (Which is normally done by the owner of the bike or an agent in sg) he'll do the transfer & inspection at LTA & do a new insurance policy under the buyer's name. When all is done, he'll send the bike to JB or anywhere as agreed.

From what i've experienced, the only things required are Cash, yr Malaysian ID card and a correspondence address in sg. That's all.

hope that helps. if not, do pm me.
