I am in mid 30s... And just started to ride for economical reasons..

Doesnt matter what ur age in.. Starting to ride is like being a kid getting a bicycle for the first time.. I am so wanted to get an aprilia but being a father of 3 makes me back on planet earth.. Thats y im riding FZ16 (borrowed).. Its economical, stable and easy on maintenance..

At the meantime i do not let anyone be my pillion, wife and kids included (They will last in line).. Maybe im being overly cautious but when im confident enough.. Maybe.. Just maybe i consider..

I'm turning 42 tmrw and currently has 3 bikes. A BMW R1100R, a Triumph T100 and a Honda Dominator NX650. Each bike gives me different feeling as they belong to different categories with the T100 customed to a cafe racer.

I stopped riding for more than 10 yrs and only returned for my MLC in 2011 when I was 38yrs old. As a bike enthusiast, I like most types of bikes but I chose those that not only are a mode of transportation but also has that character. A Super4 is awesome but seriously boring. I don't need speed although I do enjoy the adrenaline of twisting the throttle and getting that response from the bike, hence only class 2 for me.

Since my return to bikes, I ridden TDM900, Super Tenere, Moto Guzzi V7 Racer, Kawasaki W400, and now with the 3 bikes that I currently own and ride every workday.

I feel you bro.... Instead of going around buying and selling, have an idea what type of bike you want first, a cruiser like Harley? A beefy tourer like the K1600? A modern classic like the Triumph Bonnevilles? Then get one based on your budget. When you find that bike, I tell you it'll be so awesome.....

Happy birthday @PaiKia.

I think at this age we are wiser and more aware on what we want. If it's just for practical transportation use, just get a bike that's going to get you from point A to B. S4 would be ideal as its reliable.

For me, I want a relaxed ride, although it is going to be an everyday bike. I'll go for a cruiser or a modern classic like triumph or Royal Enfield. As much as I want that relaxed ride, I also want to know when the time comes, I can throttle up and get away from a bad situation.

So it comes down to what you want it for.

Exactly. Do some homework on the kind of bikes before you take out that cheque book and spend that hard earned money.

For modern classics, u'll be surprised that the trend is in and there are many to choose from. As much as I love old bikes, I'm cautious about maintenance and availability of parts. Some ideas for you on brand new models with the retro flare:

1) Triumph Bonneville/Thruxton/Scrambler

Smooth engine with sufficient grunt. Pulls away seamlessly and is one of the easiest to customize.

2) Moto Guzzi V7

You'll love that vibration (if you are that kind). Stock exhaust already sound awesome and even with 50bhp this bike goes well. No issue catching up the rest of the pack.

3) Ducati Scrambler

New kid on the block. This Duckie has the basic no frills engine set up hence I believe it'll be easier on the wallet than its sporting brothers. Expect lots of accessories coming your way.

4) BMW NineT

It's a BMW. Either u love it or you loathe it. But in terms of power and handling, this NineT is one of the best you can get. But for the price u get none of the electronic wonders from other BMWs except ABS and you get tube tyres.

5) Honda CB1100EX

Lots of talk on Honda new retro but not many on the road. Partially cos Boon Siew didn't bring this in. Inline four lacks that character and exhaust is so Super 4 i.e. Too smooth and quiet. This bike also looks and feels big. If you like it big, this is one to check out.

6) Kawasaki W800

Said to be the clone of the Triumph Bonnevilles. But frankly the riding posture and handling are different. The W seems to have a little more exhaust character when throttling and honestly I felt it's a cross between a street bike and a cruiser. Bevel drive is a charm and unique in its own way.

If you like cruisers but don't want the Harley insignia, check out the new boys, Indian and Victory. Both from Mah PL as well while you check out the Triumphs.

Yamaha Bolt VX950 is also great but seems very slow in sales figures. Guess the resemblance with the HD Sportster could be a factor. While u r at cruisers, don't forget the Moto Guzzi California series. As like most Gooses, the transverse V engine is so sexy.

I advise also consider the route you take daily to office. You might not wana be stuck in peak hours traffic with a crumblesome bike on the highway.

I'm still riding a Honda VTR250 for 10 years and going. It's V-twin, light, good pick-up but bad top speed, average fuel consumption, cheap insurance and it's unique.

If you'll ask me to select another bike I have the tendancy to select another V-Twin.

ultimately it depends on what TS really need and not want .

unless he wants ,good looking, power, wants exciting , wants convenience, wants cheap . then it is hard

me: 52yrs young. love bikes since 1988. have had lots of bikes but at sbf i realised many others had more bikes than me because of their love too. used to buy , sell because cannot find the true like. maybe because we are trained that way. you know learning 2b , then 2a then 2.now i am sticking to 2 bikes. a very super reliable honda nighthawk and a piaggio x8 400. the 400 is used to go work because of it being a scooter. just twist and go. imagine being stuck in a jam and left hand keep changing gears. the honda?? love of my life. petrol saver.

when i get my cpf, please , please, then i will luxuriate myself with a bike i want, to go distance , comfort riding. now , not too sure what : harley, honda ctx , honda dn-01, spyder

Given the ability, I would get a couple more bikes. Each with different characteristics, so that I am not only enjoying riding, but also get to enjoy the thrills that each bike can offer. Hehehe....

I feel you totally bro... Although I can't say I got the money. Hehehe

I 'had to' sell my Super Tenere after my wife was expecting our 2nd kid cos I knew I have to stop touring or short trips to Msia. Even suppers will have to stop so no point having a big adv tourer. Hence I ventured into bling bikes and gotten myself the most bling bike ever... The Moto Guzzi V7 Racer with all that chrome and flare. That triggered my interest in custom bikes and after the Goose I had a W400 and now a T100.

Hi guys, fellow riders,

Count me in. I am within your class. I should refrain from the word 'old' because the heart still 'young'. Well, just taking the cue from our government, - not 'old people' but 'pioneer citizen'. Perhaps, a better word to describe should be 'mature riders'.

So KZONE, hope it helps you decide the kind of bike. I see lots of good opinions and considerations here,- MrBIKER, Paikia44, SaintJo, Rookie517, Karedi, and all. Perhaps I could summarize these considerations as -

"Fun bike to ride, easy Maintenance & spare parts, fuel Economy & mileage, Practicality to daily usage and road conditions, Power with one throttle twist to get away from traffic, Comfort for long distance travel -commuting from Tuas to Changi Airport?, the Price of course, & perhaps also the type of Handling & Characteristics of the bike - 'fun adventure/scrambler dual purpose, laid back cruiser, heavy muscle tourer, gentlemanly street, the fierce speedy sports, or just simply comfy scooters". Take your pick. Like Waitforme mentioned, - your needs than your wants - shouldn't go wrong.

I started off with a 2B adventure & streets type. Also rode the super4, a very good commuting bike with no issues. Never like the sports because its hard on my wrist, forearm and back & also it scares the heart off my pillion. I like the tourer but couldn't justify the short daily commuting from home to work. Now, I am still riding my middle weight class 2 Honda, - it got some of my needs and some of my wants - power, economy & maintenance, & the confidence of handling on the road. Somehow, the itch towards the "wants" is always there because the heart is ever young, only the brains puts the brake as it gets 'older',... no, wiser. :)

I got back to riding and get a sports tourer only for one reason. Ride to Thailand ( One of my bucket list )

the truth for me is , i am lazy already

lazy to chain lube

lazy to carry helmets, and stuff to walk around

lazy to change gear

in the end settle for a bike comfort for myself and pillion

bike that can put box and underseat. can carry items , go mall no need to carry this and that .

rain coat always in the bike. slippers also .
