What happens if you shut down anything that's related to Norton and McAfee on your computer? Does it solve the problem?

For those who have problems with IE/FireFox etc. I usually notice most has lotsa 3rd party add-ons to their Internet Browser. In this case for eg. Yahoo (search) Toolbar,McAfee & Norton. Does our Browser need so much stuffs?

Normally I'd tell friends to remove all of those unwanted Add-ons and other Misc. Newly installed programs in their com that might have affected the performance.

Your opinions redbeacon?

Err...yeah, you're right in the general aspect of computing....no offence to TS but these kinds of problems are a bit of a hassle as pinpointing the problem is like finding a needle in a haystack.

As for the TS, seems to him that he can browse some pages, whereas others just brings him to "http:///".

A Anti-adware software with "too restrictive" settings or something else might have intervened to prevent him from going to his intended websites. Hence, my troubleshooting suggestion to him in my earlier post.

Threadstarter, do you still have issues?

jB's theory : if you don't know how to troubleshoot, bring most settings back to stock as a first step to fixing.

I never allowed anyone in my household to install those #$% pesky irritating google/yahoo toolbars in my cpu. They(toolbars) are more of a nuisance than help to me.

Haha...tell me about it man.

My sis and dad each have a notebook and as a good bro, I usually don't intervene unless they call for help.

As a result, good god knows what's inside their comps liao

(Whoops, went a little off topic, hope you guys don't mind...)
