speedo and odometer

hi guys, was on the road then halfway realized my speedo died, never move. on 0 all the way. same goes to my odometer. wat happen? i only know 1 of the causes may be the cable? if so how much to replace it?

 

other than the cable wat can cause it? now cannot calculate which gas station give more mileage.

I think noone can really answer this because it could be any number of reasons for the problem. Could be on the meter end, the sensor end, or any of the wiring along the way.

 

I guess the only self-testing you can do is to make sure none of the wires are unattached, broken or loose. And to check if any fuses are blown.

What bike are you riding ?

 

Most bikes have the speedo driving by a gear at the front gear. The gear will rotate the cable, and drive the speedo. Usually it is the cable within that has broken. You have the following solutions :

 

a. Replace the broken cable with a similar part.

Cost: depending on bike. DIY:easy

 

b. Mount a bicycle speedo, such as Sigma BC1600.

Cost:less than $50. DIY: Moderate

 

c. Mount a motorbike speed, such as Trailtech Vapor.

Cost : less than $300. DIY : slightly difficult

 

d. Buy a GPS, such as Garmin Legend.

Cost: Less than $430. DIY : easy

maybe giving us the year + model of yr bike may help

for some bikes, both rpm & speedo run using cables while others are digitally (electronically) operated

for example, my cbr150 speedo runs via cable while the rpm meter is connected to electric wires. when the main fuse blows, the rpm meter will not work.

ok guys, so i changed the cable and it works. needle not shaking like before. (needle will dance around when bike on stop). now i worry my rpm meter will later not work. cos its also 'dancing'.
