nice work. Just curious though, the springer doesn't look like it has much travel.... how much did you design it for?

 

 

i dun think springers are supposed to move too much... unlike the conventional telescopic forks. My fork has enough damping effect.. my oni concern now is if the springs are too soft. this is the main drawback about springers.. the spring rate is always a huge variable to control. lol.

anyway.. yeah.. gonna use drum brakes this time round.. spacers done last night.. gonna mount it up soon to test it before coating the springs....this is the most exp single part i have built to date.. jus hope evreything works fine..

I think Mantis' lines are more fierce that that. I feel like I'm riding a naked bike.

 

 

thats right.. the rider posture for mantis is supposed to be sporty.. with a low profile. when the rider grips the tank and hunches slightly.. its supposed to give the feeling of tight and nimble handling. can feel like taking corners even... lol

ok.. abit of updates on the springer fork progression.

 

managed to change the steering cone for the new set of triple trees that i had on my springers.... this is one *****in process really not for amatuers like myself.. hahaha.. wasted my whole night trying to take out the bearing races, knocking with the wrong tools and all... used a rubber mallet and wacked until i dropped dead,work still not done.... completed the same job with one hit using a steel hammer... @#$% lol...very challenging.. not fun at all.. but one hell of a time learing a new part of the bike i had no clue about.

 

i finally did manage to change the whoe steering cone thanks to some tips and guidance from bikeworks... bottom line for anyone trying to do your own servicing or projects... THE RIGHT TOOLS MATTERS. hahaha..

 

now the 170 tires gave e difficulty in turning.. the bike seemed to have power steering after this mod..lol.. it returned to straight position automaticallyas i pushed it a distance without using the handles.. i have confirmed with bikeworks and some other riders that this is normal due to the wider tire width.. so anyone out there who wishes to convert to fat tire.. dun be alarmed if yur bike's steering changes like this..

When i first tested a Shadow while still riding a phantom, i thought the steering got problem....then i even told the owner "Eh i think ur bike got problem..."

 

It was actually the wide front that handles a lil differently....

the dragstar has a good frame for mods... start with the right basics and u will have less problems to solve later. in sg.. u are at the mercy of the TP.. ANYTHING you do for kustomizing yur ride can cause u to be pulled over.. wanna be safe..ride it bone stock.. wanna play on the darkside, make sure u got a spare bike for your daily transport.

Ya bro, fully agreed with u cos I'm always on the darkside since my first ride haha...just dun like the feeling of modding up swee swee then called to take down all the "masterpiece", really heart pain man..then sell off the ride 'cos it was back to stock. Had done this previously so hope to get more info on how far u guys have gone to and got no prob yet hehe...
