No Problem LD glad to help

You can go to Mah Pte Ltd opposite Sim Lim Tower

Look for Jeffrey

Sometime back before I went to Phuket I asked him if he can do a recoil

He offered me $150 for a recoiled one in exchange for my burnt coil

Hope this info helps

ok sounds reasonable, though MT did say i could get it done for RM150 in JB.

did you use it when your coil got burnt? how was their worksmanship on the recoiled 1?

share with you guys...

wrote to LTA, raised the safety issue and asked advice how to make the manufacturer acknowledge this coil problem & take action...

they replied:

Thank you for your feedback of **/**/2006.

We would like to inform you that for every new vehicle model imported into

Singapore, the vehicle manufacturers have to provide relevant documents to

certify that their vehicles and its components conform to internationally

recognised safety standards.

We would also like to assure you that LTA takes a serious stance on

safety-related vehicle defects arising from the use of vehicles in

Singapore and that we monitor such feedback closely. If there is

sufficient supporting evidence to warrant further investigation or an

independent assessment, we would do so and if necessary, take appropriate

actions to address the problem.

Following your feedback, we have checked with the local Honda authorised

agent, Boon Siew Singapore Pte Ltd (BSSPL). They informed us that there is

an product improvement programme on the alternator coil for vehicles that

are serviced by BSSPL. Please arrange with Mr Andy Yong, Service Manager of

BSSPL at tel: 62105098 to look into your case.

Yours sincerely

that statement in blue highlight... my 2nd coil will decide if its true. o_O

i know some of u are on third coil already... hmmm?

i also want to re-wind my burnt coil,

but it doesn't mean i'm looking forward using it

Hope you'll be able to get your dream bike some day.

Enemy, next time put your name down, so we'll wait for you.

LD, not bad, 8hp gain, with tuning, should be more. How much torque are you getting?

for vehicles that are serviced by BSSPL

The above statement may mean none of you apply. We shouldn't accept responses like that. If you go down this route, BS will probably be turning you guys away, one by one.

If there is sufficient supporting evidence to warrant further investigation or an independent assessment, we would do so and if necessary, take appropriate actions to address the problem.

What you want to do is to gather supporting evidence now! so LTA will further investigate, and even have an independent assessment done.

For those who have bought their 2nd coil from BS and they've burnt out, raise your hands. I have a plan.

I am inclined to believe that BS knows about the coil issue and they knowingly sold the defective coils to customers so they can make money out of you, while putting your lives at stake.

If they are aware of the problem, what sort of corrective action have they done? No one from BS informed me about this alternator improvement program. Has anyone of you been informed? How come it only came about when LTA wrote to them? Again, I am inclined to believe this is a recently cooked up program to save someone's ass.

Posted

My suspicions are correct. Even the Stink is not aware of any product improvement program. It's something that is cooked up just to get LTA off BS's back.

Tashi - Figures below, do share yours after your sat run.

Max Ft/Lbs: 84.74 @ 8780RPM

I'm resigned to going thru the agony of having another burnt coil. Ah Pui of Looi's sold me a coil which looks identical to what I have changed before. Questioned him where he got the coil and he replied it's from BS. That cannot be true as I had called BS myself and they have confirmed that they do not have anymore stock left. They also have no idea when the next batch would arrive. Since it's not a BS coil no use asking for proof it's from BS cos I'm sure he won't be able to come up with it. Took the coil as I can't wait indefinitely for the BS 1.

By the way, having a Volt Meter installed will save you the hassle of calling for tow or getting stuck somewhere out there. I rode to Looi's immediately after seeing that the batt wasn't charging and prepared myself for the worst.

Good luck Tashi on your plan, hope something comes up to benefit all of us.

Cheers! :thumb:

No I didnt see the coil at all

So I wouldnt want to commit on the workmanship

Mine was under warranty from BS

They took it away right after I took pictures of it saying that they are sending it back to Japan for research purpose

Normally for recoiled stuff would last about 3 mths

If you are lucky it might hold till even years

Jeffrey told me that its no use changing to a new coil cos it will get burnt very soon

He suggested me to stick to recoiling as it would save you bit of money rather than spending on new coils

Lucky you installed the voltmeter oredi

If not sure kena push your bike or tow

Tweety, ride to BS today and have your coil checked. I think it will burn out again within a week. Where & when did you have your 2nd coil replaced?

Eldo, if you had your coild replaced this year at BS, it should be a 2nd gen coil.

Can anyone verify how true it is to fix the volt meter so as to prevent the coil from being burn??

Vector 1 has it I think, the digital one. If u use normal brand like Auto Gauge Voltmeter, after riding 100km/h the needle will start to jump about. Haha.

And yes, it doesn't really prevent you from having a burnt coil. Just informing you that it's that time.
