There is a lot of confusion on this " dry cell " battery - are u refering to Mantenance Free " MF " battery. Or are u refering to " AA " & " AAA " type dry cell battery. I am refering to Automotive batteries.... most are acid-filled & some are acid-filled but fully cover to prevent leakage so " MF ". Then there are the Gel type as well. The " dry cell " like Ni-Cad, Ni-MH & Lithium Ion battery requires different charging system.. :)

MF is those dry cell rite? This 1 no need conditioning rite?mine bike after 1 week in workshop, den started up and on headlite cannot on,tot the bulb spoilt, den rode for few hours den the headlite was able to work...any precaution needed in this case, but this happend like 1mth ago,but now all normal

All acid-filled batteries need reconditioning & they self discharged over a period of time - pls read here http://www.ctek.com. Your case is normaly confusing if battery can start the bike Y cant it power up the headlights ??? most likely the start-up drained too much power from the battery, tt it cannot light up yr headlights.... battery may be very weak after 1 week in the workshop. Common myth is if battery can start-up bike itis good but may not be fully efficient. Best to to keep the battery efficient by maintenancing them thru additional charging & reconditioning.

BTW, all " MF " batteries must be charged using a electronic battery charger.

this process must be done for new battery and before fix on to the bike?

ride safe today,ride again tomorrow

It really depends on how long has the "MF" battery been left on the shelf before u bought it. The longer it is on the shelf - the lower its power/strength, all lead-acid batteries - self discharges over time. Personally, i think is it better to have a fully charged battery b4 installation on to any equipment. :)

wa same too i have the same problem as blade_trinity21 but i'm riding 150SP. The problem occurs most of the time when i go outfield and leave my bike to rot for 3 - 4 days. By the time i come back and switch on my switch, the neutral light is dimmed and when i start up my engine, the neutral light will light flicker along with the sound of my engine. when i throttle the light didnt seem to be getting brighter but gets dimmer.

i brought it to a motor diam and change my batt. They suspect is recitifier spoilt but after changing a new battery, they test it with a volt meter and the voltage increases when it throttle. thus it means my recitifier's fine. But i have gone through this scenario for a lot of times already. why isit that my battery will die off so easily when i just didnt start it for a few days? my brother's phantom battery seems to be alrite when he didnt start it for like 5 -6 days but mine will spolit by just not starting for a few days.

any ideas?

There may be 2 problems -

1. Low quality battery - try buying a good quality " MF " battery but the correct size/specs.

2. Electrical overloading - check if u r overloading yr bike with too many other equipments/gadgets.

How long a battery last really depend on the quality.....

Try buying : YOKOHAMA battery in MY - price is abt s$25 but at least it is branded. 2 strokers vibrate alot & that is really bad for battery, so try getting good quality battery - Yuasa is also recommend ........... cheers

MF is Maintenance Free battery. The type that you put the battery water in and seal the battery. From here, monitor the voltage of the battery, dun need to check the water level every week :thumb:

The are 2 kinds right...Once is pre sealed with gold plated connectors and the other type, u need to pour in the eletrolite by yourself....

had bad experiences by using cheapo ones and killed the rectifier...Spend even more money to replace rect and battery.

I always used the pre seal with gold plated batt but much more expensive about $160 for size 10.....

Hi Bros, I have been riding for 3 yrs on this shadow 750. Wondering what is my battery life span. Must I change the battery? Try to avoid convenience if bike cannot start. Tks

mostly batt for me lasted for 1 to 1.5 years, the more u station ur bike longer the more battery is losted this is my 2 cents..

My batteries last a little longer, u r right abt battery shorter lifespan if left alone not begin used. A little care & maintenace does helps a battery go on for a little loonger...................... cheers

Guys, alot of time, I get request to try saving the battery when they are abt to Kaput - so it is like - dun change engine oil for the 1st 30,000km then change to a good quality oil also will not help right ?? Battery maintenance must start early even when the battery is new & especially when u dun ride your bike often.. & when u finally do start yr bike once a week or month the battery power is only at half capacity - u r actually over loading the battery.
