Hey guys

 

Just got my first bike a couple of days ago, a pulsar 200. Couple of problems have already surfaced

 

1. The fuel gauge doesn't really work (Goes up and down like nobody's business)

2. The speedo went haywire just now while riding so like now it shows any random number between 0 and 11

 

Anyone knows what's causing those?? thanks

Electrical issue, bring down to UM. Most probably need to get a new one, bike still under warranty?

need more info of your bike...

1st hand or 2nd hand?

if 2nd hand how old is the bike?did the previous owner mention anything on this?

can describe more on the fuel gauge?what you mean by going up and down?how far have you traveled then it drop and by how many bars does it go up and down?

Well it's a second hand bike. 3yo. Quite low mileage. Got it from m1 so no info from previous owner(s).

When I start the bike, there would be no bars at all. The fuel warning light would be lit as well. After about 5km or so, it will indicate a full tank then drop 1 or 2 bars and hover in that region. It will randomly go back to empty or half

ok...

3 issues for this...

1) external fuel sensor under your tank

2) internal fuel level sensor

3) speedo meter itself is the problem

 

you can isolate which one is at fault if you know where are the connectors

this might link to the 2nd problem,you did mention about the speed problem, which may be the speedo itself...

 

for the speed problem more info?

Speedo was working fine initially but now it only shows either 0,5,6 or 11 regardless of what speed i'm going

Oh and on a couple of occasions, the speedo light and tail light went off together and only came back on after i restarted the bike. Is there a chance that all these issues are linked? Thanks so much for the help. New to biking so I dont really know much

hmm...

might just be your speed sensor on your front wheel...

do hope that its not your speedo is the problem...

cause that will be the most ex of all the mentioned to be changed...

go down to UM tell them about your problem

ask them to check your fuel sensor and speed sensor 1st...

if you know how to check your external fuel sensor then will be easier to pin point the problem for your fuel gauge...

seems a lot of electrical problem with your bike...

really need to know what the previous owner did then can better diagnose the problems...

can be power trip/surge from some of the electrical stuff that was done to the bike...

sorry can't help you much here only some suggestions

we really need to have a look at the physical symptoms then can better help you...

BUT there is so much we can help as we are still not the mechs...

wise move ... do visit um to rectify your bike issues the soonest ... be an early bird and ask for mech ah tek to check your bike condition ...

hey guys im posting on behalf of my friend. he seems to have issue on his pulsar and he called me up what is the issue about and i couldnt answer also. so guys maay i know how come when he ride the bike otw to work and the bike suddenly dies off. fuel is already half and electrical issue all working.. includes the horn and got sound when trying to electric start. got crank sound. try to kickstart also cannot. what seems to be the issue?

1) is this just a 1 off issue?

2) did he park under hot sun?

3) fuel tap position?

4) spark plug properly inserted?(if left not in cannot start)

Sounds like exactly what happened to me a few times already. If it's the same problem as mine, all your usual checks (ignition/spark/compression) will have no problems. Your engine will still crank no matter e-start or kick-start, your signals will still light up, your plugs will still have spark. I'm still at a loss on what is causing this problem to my bike as well.

 

On a side note, does anyone know how much does a magnetic coil and a new CDI cost in UM?

you mention a few times...

this few times where did you park your bike?

it does not start at 1st or after riding some time then die off?

more info please...

symptoms too general to really pin point even if you bring down to UM...

any special sound or symptoms b4 your bike dies off?

for cdi and magneto coil,chances are you will be facing this problem everyday of having to keep your rev up when you stop,if not your bike will die off...

the worst case is to swap out your magneto coil or cdi...

I had this problem. Better head down to UM and fixed it. if not it will become like mine, spoilt and it costs 210 bucks to repair
