hows your long ride home to test your new suit?

:thumb: The rain suit feels like a wind breaker. Very light and comfortable.

Hope it'll last me for a long time.

My previous ogk and pro grip rain coat leaked after 6 months although I took good care of them.

Morning,

Photos from the Ride Safe event some of us went to :

We met with other SBF riders in a carpark right beside BBDC:

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4148/5171723764_3066bcd8cd_z.jpg

Then we went to BBDC, and parked there, along with dozens (hundreds?) of other riders. There was all sorts of bikes !

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4091/5171139705_fbe90aa0ee_z.jpg

Looks familiar ? :)

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4089/5171806214_810b1a5360_z.jpg

This one is for those of you who like bikes that look like a mini-van :cheeky:

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4154/5171219023_0dfabeab01_z.jpg

Under a big tent, BBDC and the organisers set up a big space for chairs and a stage but also some sponsors stands: Honda, Motoair (airbag jackets), Bridgestone tyres, McDonalds etc.. There also was some poster to raise awareness about safe riding

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4145/5171854174_88b3497ae8_z.jpg

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4086/5171647783_0453509963_z.jpg

After breakfast we got ready to participate in the Amazing Race with all the other bikers. The Race was about going to 3 specific locations, answering some safety questions asked by the BBDC instructor there, and get out ticket stamped to proceed to the next location.

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4086/5171687901_822e876495_z.jpg

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4144/5172648554_cfeedd2609_z.jpg

When we came back, they gave certificates and prizes to the participating groups and teams, and also picked 6 riders wearing good examples of protective gear. I was picked ! (It's the least I could do for SBT to maintain my reputation :p). They gave us a voucher for a motoair vest , of apparently $180 value, but it's not written on the voucher... Have not decided what to do with it !

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4084/5172140089_f107eb1b7b_z.jpg

Wearing gear is the first step, the next is practicing defensive riding. Another group of riders was picked for displaying good defensive riding practices on the road during the race, kudos to them

After this, they did the lucky draw where all sorts of things were given to the riders whose number was picked from the lucky draw box: helmets, helmet bags, gloves, cool cases, Shell vouchers, Movie tickets.. The first prize was an LCD TV, second was a foldable bicycle and the third a mountain bike.

More photos and videos here !

Overall I thought this was a good effort to raise awareness on riding safely but I think improvements can be made:

- invite more sponsors specially for safety gear and full face helmets

- do a more thorough presentation on road kills and accidents: I'm sure traffic police has stats and footage they can showcase to raise awareness among riders and drivers alike, showing support to riders

- present testimonials from riders who explain how sometimes riders can be so dangerous to us riders

- offer free defensive riding lessons to participants !

2+ years of riding and i just only know that. muahaha!!!

and yes, i told the lawman dat in sg, we didnt need to display our rd tax necessarily. he was abit puzzled and brag about now dat we are in MY soil we have to obey the rules blablabla.... although i was shaky, i honestly explained to him dat i didnt know. in the end, he advise me to bring along my rd tax wherever i go and he let us go after dat.

I was also caught by JB police few months ago for not turning on the headlight and not strapping helmet. The inspector tried to extract bribe from me. He threatened me that the summon would be 500 RM. And we could settle it for 50 RM. I was chuckling in my mind :). I remembered our cops in India. Then I just kept insisting that I dont have any money with me and kept pleading and finally he let me go, without summon or bribe.

I think MY cops still better in India if we dont bribe the cops will definitely issue summon.

I did some googling after that and learnt that in MY if they issue summon you can ignore it and nothing will happen. Just take the summon and throw it away. But I heard of a case where a SGer bribed the cop and then the Malaysian Anti Corruption squad was present there in an under cover operation and then the poor guy was fined heavily and jailed.

So best thing is if you are ever caught, try to convince the officer if he still insists on bribe or summon, choose the summon route but not the bribe.

Hey folks!

Thanks for all the concern. I am almost fully recovered and back on the bike now. :thumb:

Is there a place in Singapore where I can send my damaged helmet for inspection? I want to see how bad the damage is. Thinking of using it until I have enough to buy a replacement helmet.

hi guys, i'm looking to buy a pulsar for transport.

have a couple of questions. average mileage? average speed to travel to get the best mileage out of the bike?

and if anyone's selling theirs, could they PM me and we can discuss further?

thanks much!

Posted

Hi, welcome to SBT !

Average mileage could be around 500km/full tank without hitting reserve. Some got a 400km some a 600km+ mileage so obviously this depends on your riding style, if you pillion someone, have boxes, the tyres, the sprockets, all that stuff.

I think it's safe so say a 65-75km/h speed will get you exceptional mileage. 80-90km/h will give you great mileage. Above that it's just very good mileage which is already so much better than ANY bike outhere. So really, I wouldn't worry about the mileage and speed. Even if you wack the hell out of it, the bike will still be very sufficient on petrol consumption.

Of course, whacking like a wannabe racer will not do good on the long term to your engine - but again, this is all about your preferences in terms of riding !

Avg Mileage: depends on rider and load of bike, we have range from 30+km/l to 60km/l, most averaging between 36-43km/l

Abg speed to get the best mileage: according to the manual is travel between 40-60km/h

It's great to read you're doing well :cheer: :cheer: !

Already back on the bike ? What was the damage on it ? everything fixed ? Speedo is working ? What did you folks think of the whole incident? :cheeky: ?

I think Alvin is right, no place you can check the helmet. Inspect it carefully from the inside too to see if you see any cracks or anything. Google it to see how you can evaluate it by yourself somehow. Check the strap too see if it's still well fixed and nothing was torn or anything.

Obviously you know it's not safe to ride with a helmet that took such a hit so I'm not gonna add to it - and in fact I would think your helmet will still serve you better than an open helmet so I'm inclined to think you should keep it until you can afford another full face instead of trading it for a cheaper quality open face.

hey anyone care to help diagnose this minor prob i have. on slow speeds of gear 1 thru 3, i can hear small mouse squeaks from the rear wheel. but if i put on mainstand and spin the wheel, its fine. in your opinion,is the squeaks caused by the brake pads or issit has to do with the damper or bearings? it travels fine though just that the squeaks are too cute for comfort.

might be your brake shoe wearing out or just that your brakes are wet

It's definitely the rear brake pads. All of us here know this mouse sound :)

Me personally now it embarrasses me.. I arrive super cool at the front of the traffic at a stop line, and prepare stop in a very cool way and then.. iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiizzzhhhhihiiiieeeeeeeeeehhhh... :slapforehead: !!

To get rid of it you can go to your favorite bikeshop and have them look at the pads - if they're too old, change them that'll fix the problem. Or sometimes cleaning the pads, dumper etc from dust and dirt also helps. (need to disassemble the whole thing so again, mechanic preferred).

You probably dn't hear it at slower speed because either you use more the front brake instead of the foot one, or the wheel speed just doesn't allow for that squeaking to happen.

it may be the brake shoe cos the needle indicator at the rim there is enaring the end. i ride it through the day and the sound is still there so i doubt its wet. anyone thanks for ur thoughts alvin and oren. the thing is that the squeaks persist through up until i go faster then maybe its swallowed up by the wind or engine noise. another info is that the sound is there even without me pressing the rear brakes

Ok guys I need help to identify what plugs into my battery. :)

And other electrical wires so if you know the answer of the numbers without a caption, please let me know what you think these are. If you need other pictures let me know, I snapped quite a lot..

9. seems to be just the rubber cover for your +ve terminal

10 & 12. can't see properly where it leads to, but seems to lead to the bundle of wire being held by your batt strap with a fuse holder. that should be your erp wiring and the fuse for your erp unit

the rest cannot see properly
