Hi guys, just read saturday's paper about a bloke proposing for classic bike scheme just like the classic cars.

I think its time LTA do something for bikers. WHenever there's a raise in anything, we will never be forgotten. Raise in ERP, more gantry, etc.. bikers are always hit even though they dont contribute much to traffic jam.

But when there's a beneficial scheme like weekend cars, classic cars that enables car owners to keep their cars at a lower cost, bikers are never involved. Trust some car owners to KPKB...:cheeky:

Lets see what LTA got to say...

I have a feeling it wun go thru . I think their mentality of classic n vintage bikes is those RX-K or RX-S wif their smokey n noisy exhuasts .

Nobody will think of beauties like the Norton or triumph bikes .

Haha!! It really does crack me up to know that the society in this country regards riders of any kinda motorcycles as low educated and low class  thus the lack of necessary attention we get from the authority.

Dun think bikers will really be interested in the 'classic' scheme if it does suffice.

Did u know tt there's driving restriction on classic cars, like max mileage per half a year, etc... ??

you see, such a scheme will be very useful for people having more than 1 bikes or those who drives but also owns a bike.

A weekend bike scheme would be good. Its very common for bikers to keep more than 1 bike now. Usually 1 big and 1 small. (like buying 4d). The bottom line is, if LTA can spare a thought for car owners and making it cheaper for them to own cars thru such scheme, they should also consider doing it for bikes.

Dont have to be the same scheme, but anything to help would be good. I have 4 bikes. I am having trouble keeping all of them and i certainly cannot be riding all of them at the same time. Such schemes will not be popular but there will be takers. Just like the classic car scheme, its not popular, it was never meant to be popular. The most popular would of course be the normal car followed by weekend car etc. Its meant to be an option for people to consider.

Right?

with the growing demand of italian bikes etc, hopefully the mindset can change. A BMW, Harley or Ducati can buy 2 bloody cheapo weekend car! I think a top range BMW or Harley can be more expensive than a Nissan Sunny. Bikers have evolved and people should change their mindset.

The fact that so many people visited this forum is proof that bikers are in the very least english educated and computer literate among other things.

but if they take up very seriouslly

things might jus increase ......

maybe no more per entry to car parks but by the hour ??

Posted
what has that got to do with your car park entry? you mean weekend car pay for more parking? i dont understand.

what i mean is that > if they give us some privilege , they might also take away some ..

example is > they might increase our parking charges ? raise our ERP entry even more .

i absolutely dont agree with you..... you know why? BECAUSE OUR DEAR LTA WILL STILL INCREASE THE ERP, ROAD TAX WHETHER OR NOT THEY GIVE YOU ANY BENEFITS. (I cant remember when was the last time i got anything good from LTA)...You think too highly and too noble of them liao.

ANy riders out there about to disagree with me? :cheeky:

i dun see a point for buy new bike as a weekend bike.

Weekend car= pay less COE and road tax but car price still the same

DUCATI desmorr + 80k BUT COE only 1 k. So you want weekend bike, LTA ask you to pay $200 COE instead of $1000. End up, your Ducati DesmoRR cost $79200 with $800 less for COE. Road tax, if you can buy a DesomoRR and i think $3-400 road tax is not an issues.

I think LTA allow to bring in pre war bikes.

This bike is a 1930's bike.

lets put this way, if you can put your bike into classic plate BUT only allow to ride 28 day for each year! will you want it? To me i dun think so. There is a bike collector at singapore and he own about 80 over bike. Most of his bikes is lay up cos he cant ride too much at 1 time. He keep inside his show room for show.

It's only worth the hassle to lay up the bike if you have got more than 6 bikes. Layup 3 of them and swap every year. You need to pay for towing the bikes to the inspection centre -- unless you got a van or a pickup.

We live in interesting times!

true that LTA do not gives us any benefits

but with more weekend bikes around it will be highlighted to them to fleece more money from us

the problem might be how much more are they going to fleece

but if the weekend bikes come in , ho seh ... i can get a touring bike le

wah if 4 wheel owner read some of these threads they will blow!

hehe,

well, maybe it's just our wishful thinking...

just think of it this way:

whatever can get money for the gament, they will implement it.

i read in some other forum. One guy commented that SG is a non-welfare state, whereby no money, no service. i think this is very true.

why drink and drive when you can smoke and fly..

you see, with 80 bikes, he needs to for 80 COEs..... the whole idea is for people to keep their beloved bikes at a lower cost, NOT to enable them to use it daily for transport. but the classic car only need to pay for 10% of the prevailing coe. (pardon me if its not 10%). the thing is not so much about the road tax.. its more about the COEs. how many COE can you afford? i certainly cannot afford 80COEs. dont forget, even lay up also must buy COE one horr!

With a classic bike scheme, we can preserve a lot of the bikes that we have now so that the next generation can appreciate them. Singapore is a funny country, we cannot bring in old bikes from overseas. The only way to do it is to preserve these machines.

dont forget, you can swop here and swop there for now... but when its time for COE renewal... you will feel the pinch. Layup also must buy COE one.
