Time for that dreadful chain change?

How to tell? If you pull your chain from the rear sprocket and it stretches really out... its a goner.

Better to change with the sprockets together so that the whole drivetrain last longer.

Dont make the same mistake i did and order the 750ace sprocket for my 400.

Shadow ace 400 uses the same front sprocket as the steed 400.

JTR296.16

The rear JTR1304.43

For this set up, you will need a 525 size chain with 122-124 Links

If you decide to go for the JTR1304.38 (38tooth)

You can get 120-122 Links

Dont bother with the non-oring chains

Go for O or X-ring which is superior

X-ring reduces friction and is stronger[TABLE=width: 100%]

Thats too bad bro. Lets say I buy the Shadow 400. Cost is 18.5k. For how much can I sell it after 2 yrs.

(As of now, I'm not sure how long I'll be in Singapore).

Sure drop a lot bro. If u have intention to change bike again, or unsure if u will use it for long, don't buy first hand. I sold my 4 years old shadow 400 ace for $7.5k few years back.

Save the buck.

Ever walked into the mechanic and when he asked you when was the last time you changed it and you didnt know?

What are the rates? 60$ ?

Many go for the nicely bottled engine ice or maxima cool aide.

Did you know that water is the most efficient in cooling?

But using water alone, steam is generated so the engine isnt well cooled because of the layer of bubbles in between the water and the metal surface.

The solution? Use something like water wetter.

What are the benefits of using glycol? Lubrication of water pump seals.

Can I use tap water? No.. the water in the coolant system needs to be "pure".

Distilled water.. not from ntuc but those used to top up battery water.. those at petrol station for $1 a liter.

How to change?

Wait many hours for bike to cool down.

Get something to catch 2.5L of fluid below the bike.

Remove fuel tank to access the right neck cover for coolant cap.

Drain the fluid by the coolant drain nut and back of rear cylinder.(refer to manual)

Use a stringe with a tube and drain coolant reservoir.

If coolant looks ok, skip the vinegar soak.

Top up main coolant tank and reservoir and your preferred combination of coolant mix and start the bike with the coolant cap opened to burp out air.

You are done and good to go for 2 years.

If you are broke, skip the water wetter and mix distilled water with the $3 waxco concentrate.

Sellers remorse? Happens all the time when you get attached to your bike.

I get that all the time. Still not used to parting with a ride I worked and spent so much to fix.

Posted

TIP!

If you tilt your bike towards the leftmost with the sidestand and measure your dipstick oil and if there is a minimal amount of oil, your dipstick will be 4/6 full when upright.

Slight oil on dipstick to 1/2 the dipstick mark will take 400ml.

Cheers and hope this helps someone

Yes jimmy I'm so remorseful. Out of so many bikes that I've changed, this is the only bike that makes me feel so bad in my life. :(

Hi guys, any one used to push start your shadow?

I have to push start yesterday evening and this morning because l left the light on untill it died.

I succeeded to push start at gear one, after time of try at gear 2, gear 1, and even gear 3. This surprised me, as I always think gear 2 should be used to push start. And I have always been using gear 2 to push start with my previous phantom.

anyone like to comment?

Another question is is there a warning signal if it is using reserved fuel? How long could the reserved fuel last?

thank your for your information

Posted

I managed to push start my shadow at gear 3 alone. But my advise is to ask someone to help u push while you sitting on it. This will make your life easier and it is more safer because u have full control of the bike.

No signal bro. It's always safer to use your mileage meter to calculate your fuel consumption. This is in case your fuel cock is already spoilt, and you are already finishing your reserve petrol without knowing it.

Mr Jason. My sentiments.

Well, the part where you pinch your fingers to change the reserve switch should always be facing down(12L). When you face it towards the sky, theres 2L of reserve.

That's a lot for depreciation bro!! Makes me think. I was looking for new ones just because I didnt want to get the motorcycle from someone, without knowing how the machine was maintained. But looks like resale price of the bike is something I need to consider seriously.

Anyways .. what was the cost of new bike at the time when you sold your bike?

Thanks for this info.

And I have another general question. Now that the COE price has leaped to $4k, will it indirectly increase the cost of second hand bikes too?? Will the sellers of used bikes start quoting higher prices??

Thanks!

During that time I heard that brand new cost around 15k. I bought it at 8k when she was 2years old.

Bike shops sure make use of higher Coe price as an excuse to jet up the prices of 2nd hand bikes. My opinion is try not to buy 2nd bikes from bike shop unless u really have to. Direct purchase from seller will be more affordable and there's more room for price negotiation.

And to answer your question, yes if seller already renew the Coe at this point of time. Usually they will amortize the cost into the price. But as I mentioned, there's always room for negotiation.

You can download all the past Coe prices and check it out with the seller on when the Coe was renewed then u can do a simple calculation on the Coe cost during that time. So if seller quotes u high due to Coe price, then u can analyze from there and nego further with them. Don't forget to add in depreciation cost of Coe too.
