Honda Shadow 400

Im riding a springer steed but I managed to fit a sportster backrest/luggage rack into it. Hehehehe

Previously using a shadow rear fender and it still fitted too. Only need to drill an extra hole for the signals. Heres wat it looks like now...

I am looking to shorlist for a 2a cruiser. Any recommendation on what bike is reliable, stable and have ease of service and parts and what is its fuel consumption? must be tubeless.

Shadow 400 with steed VSE rear rims and Magna 750 front rims? Thinks there's one on sale with this set up. Or a suzuki boulevard.

Magna 250 also ok if u're not too tall. But parts not sure easy to get or not.

 

And might wana consider the position of the front footrest too. If you hv long legs like me then the shadow may not be a good option cos uemr knees will be higher than the tank. Hahahaha

That's why I chose the steed.

Where can i get the replacement for this part? The odometer spoil. Cant even measure the fuel consumption.

1) check scrapyard for spares. Cant find go chong aik buy modded speedo and mount onto handlebar risers. Heeeee

2) maybe engine top gasket leaking. Hv to go mech to open the top and change the gasket. Nonid top overhaul but if u just got the bike, can do valve clearance too.

1. speedometer (trip meter perhaps can repair)

2. top overhaul (changing gasket, valve clearance ,tuning and carburetor wash)

3. change steering bearings ( heavy to turn)

4. front suspension too soft, ( perhaps change the inner spring).

5. Rear fender shaking (change bolt or...).

Everyone will recommend their own mech. I send my s4, steed, cb250, Dr650 all to KnT. Just look for Clifford. His shop at Ubi rd 1,#01-372 blk 3006. It's opposite the TP Ubi. Got 3 mechs there so ur bike might take 2-3 days cos it involves the engine. Not to worry, Clifford will supervise his men when they work although they're quite good.

But good jobs don't come cheaply. He will recommend if things need to be changed but the customer still decides. He won't pressure you.

For Shadow i usually send to Rosli @ AutoBay 1 Kaki Bukit Ave 6 #02-45.

 

he's very experience on shadow , but of course good mech don't come cheap and may take awhile as got lots of bike send to his shop.

 

i'm more concern on your meter as if no shop able to fix it than need to buy new set that cost few hundred dollars.

 

suggest go this 2 shop ask for the price of top overhual see which is cheaper.

FJT selling at $280. U can check with chong aik too. I replaced mine few months ago.

Are u refering to the 'sticky honey' kinda liquid? Thats normal for old bikes. My shadow and s4 cdi leaked for some time too but the bikes are still running as normal.

I agree with shah. But if u insist in replacing, u can check out the part# of your cdi, either from your current cdi, or call up boon Siew for help. Then u ask that eBay seller if the item that he selling has the same part#. When u call up boon Siew/ FJT / chong aik, check the price too.

Ever met a s4 rider with cdi leaked till no more glue, and the bike still ran at 180kmh. It won't die and leave u stranded lah, it just ur bike will run funny (power loss, misfiring) so u can still ride home/ to a wkshop. As long ur bike still runs normally, u shldnt worry too much.

Thank you guys for sharing your experiences and knowledge. Yes. Its a "sticky honey" type of liquid. Will let it keep running till it die hopefully not so soon. The mechanic told me it wont last more than 3 months. So i will monitor how long it will last.

 

By the way for this part it just unplug and plug the new part? Any complicated process involve to change this part?

Must know where it is first. Hahahaha

S4 cdi was under the tank (unbolt and raise tank) and had to unbolt the bracket from the frame. Then its just unplug and plug in new one.
