Hey SBF people. Ive got few things to ask with regards to my accident weeks ago. As im experiencing first time accident, maybe kind souls could help clear my doubts. Here is how the story goes.

Ive just got a letter from the law company LEGISTE Law Corporation stating the repair bills, the statements and stuffs. And it all mounted up to $3,571.63. Details about the accident, was my mistake. Filter lane, i didn't slow down, as checking for oncoming traffic, car was still not moving and at giveway line. So i hit the car from behind. The car reported the accident 2 days after the incident.

Well. The main problem here lies on my insurance. My current insurance company is Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance 3rd party. Its expiring on July this year. As my road expired expired this month, ive renewed my insurance together with the road tax, but with a different insurance company NTUC. The question is.

I didnt go to IDAC to report. So that is the reason these letters from the lawyers are coming in? So i have to report to IDAC and everything is fine? or do i have to report to my insurance company.

1) Will the insurance claims against my current insurance company, Mitsui Simotomo affect on my NTUC insurance which will be activated only on July?

2) Will the NTUC insurance which ive already renewed increase?

3) Will i have to pay any cash as the damages mounted up to $3000.

4) Why is there a lawyer involved?

This might be a long story. But answers would definetly be good. Please help me. Thanks.

u most probably aask to settle the claims through ur insurance companies instead of privately.

the driver used a lawyer to squeeze u dry, to get u where it hurts most. trust me, u hit the bumper like that repairs don go over 1000. 3000 bucks, the insurance company shakes head but will still pay for u..but ur premiums increase many times. that is the part where it hurts most.

when i got my first claim against me, repairs amt to abt 400. but the total cost was 3000.

to cut things short,

1) i not sure abt this one, but i believe it will claim from mitsui.

2) yes definitely, they will dig up ur records to see whether ur eligible for NCD, which in this case ur not.

3) based on what happened to me, no u don have to pay. but u are indirectly payin thru hiher premiums.

4) coz the driver is being an A$$.

just some quick replies.

for the claim, it will be based on the date of accident. So if the date of accident that time you are still with Mitsui then the claim will go to Mitsui.

for NTUC, as you already renew your insurance, I dun think they will increase your premium. but your next insurance renew should increase already.

no, you dun have to pay anything from your own pocket... everything will be paid by the insurance company...

not really true. Idac isnt a must.but it is very important that u tell ur insurance company immediately if u are settling via insurance cover. don wait for the other party.. if u didnt, they can void u of ur cover and u gotta pay urself.

For question 3, it depends on your policy has an "excess".

You are legally required to lodge an accident report with your insurance company, otherwise they will not cover you for that accident.

Excess doesn't apply to third party claims in most policies. It commonly applies mainly to other types of claims.

You're not really getting the advice you need.

This is what you should do:

Report the claim to your insurer MS immediately. They will ask for your version of events, so give it to them. Let them handle the claim and decide whether they want to settle or contest.

Thanks. Ive done the reports to IDAC and also MS. MS said everything's settled after i report to IDAC. So will my NTUC insurance premium rise?
