Wats the best lubrication for the chain and did not 'splash' or 'fling' off?

Recommended Posts

there is no such thing as a chain lubrication that is good n wun fling. to lubricate the chain is to oil it. n with oil ard the chain, its prone to flings n wash away during wet weather. of cos. chain lube manufacturers will claim their product wun attract dust n dirt, fling is minimum n it lubricates the chain well. chain lube is specially formulated so that it can resist wash away as well as hot weather vapourisation. n to resist fling, the oil is extremely sticky as it sticks to the chain. if the oil is sticky, it will attract a minimum amount of dust on the chain.

taking maxima chain guard n chain wax for example. both r oil based. chain guard is thicker n chain wax is thinner. chain guard is not as dry as chain wax when used. but the purpose of lubricating the chain is to have adequate oil ard the chain n to make it as slippery as possible to reduce power loss at the last transmittion.

I feel that the chain wax is quite thick, maybe i applied quite alot..

during application,i will keep my chain warm and applied it after that leave overnight.next day, really feel very 'waxy' on the chain. after traveling,

can see that there's no fling BUT alot of dirt, small stones, debris sticking on it :slapforehead: maybe real STICKY.

ride safe today,ride again tomorrow

install the scottoiler,no need to clean the chain anymore? or lesser cleaning u mean?

You still need to do some cleaning on the chain just that not that troublesome as the conventional chain lub or wax. All I need is a piece of paper napkin or cloth and just give a wipe and my chain will be shining again. It's only a 15mins job. I cannot even remember when was the last time I had my chain clean. Whereas the convetional chain lub or wax you need to use things like kerosene or diesel to clean.

Used maxima chain wax previously find that it's ok doesn't fling too much except the front sprocket area lots of dirts and difficult to clean too. Got to clean it frequently with kerosene and a lot more messy.

I personally find that having the scottoiler is a good investment, at the end of the day will get back what I put in. I will have longer chain life, no manual lubing of the chain, a bottle 500ml of scott oil can last me through at least a year of daily usage.

but its expensive to buy scotoiler dude

It's only the initial installation that's expensive but in the long run still a good investment. Longer chain life and less time cleaning.

I had the same experience as you. There's seems to have more dirt around. If you got a chance to remove the front sprocket cover you will know what I mean.....

i having the same problem and most of the times i traveling around industrial area where the road are more dusty. think of changing to lub after finish my chain wax.

so about every 2 months will do a 100% clean on chain with diesel and washing chain alone took me about 1.5 hrs :faint:

A second of precaution is an hour of safety. It never hurts to ask.

Maxima Chain Wax

Chain and Cable Lube

Ultimate Fling Resistance

Maxima Chain Wax needs no introduction in the USA, it is the best seller, period! Its special ParaFilm formula creates a waxy film similar to Cosmoline, offering long term protection especially in water and high humidity environments. Maxima Chain Wax is formulated with heavy duty, anti-wear, and extreme pressure additives that provide superior lubrication for all chains, cables, and sprockets. Maxima Chain Wax penetrates deeply, lubricating non accessible areas, reducing chain stretch and wear. Chain Wax runs extremely clean, its non tacky nature does not attract grit, perfect for MotorCross applications. Street riders have fell in loved with it since. Chain Wax is simply the best choice for all chain and cable care needs.

-Eliminates fling off & seals lubricant to chain

-Special paraffin base creates waxy film

-Excellent rust protection

-For o-ring and conventional chains

-Does not attract dirt

-Light amber color, sets up virtually invisible

Recommended Retail Price- S$13.65 per 8oz bottle

Tech Tip:

A little goes a long way, the key to chain wax application is that less is better than more. The unique formula looks like nothing, but closer inspection will show a thin even coat on all surfaces. Chain Wax sets up within 10 minutes in our tropical climate.

Put the bike on mainstand or jack up the rear wheel, spin the wheel while directing the spray to the inside of the moving chain. Applying the lube just after riding helps! The hot chain allows the lube to better penetrate the O/X ring seal contact surfaces, which is now softer and more supple with the heat. Riding the bike around the carpark for 5 mins is just not enough to heat up the chain. Give the rear wheel a few more spins to work the lube in.

Occasionally wipe off accumulated lube with a quality O ring safe spray penetrant like GT85 Teflon Spray, you will get endless comments on how clean your chain is.

The RMV holds lesser than 500ml but top up is around 2000km or 3000km..Been using mine for my KL and muar trips,no need to tighten chain slack. Btw one advise, intital 1000-1500km usage will make your rims dirty due to the scottoiler lube, pushing out the old grease or lube in the chain. After that your jus wipe your chain and voila, clean chain...:cheer:

It depends on you flow rate also. If you set it high then of course more lah. As for me I set it slightly below 1 setting. Not too wet or dry just nice. My record was 4000km then I top up.

wat i like about Maxima Chain Wax is that when the grit and dirt accumulates to a gunk, it will drop off the chain and front sprocket assy.

chain washing is not a problem after using Maxima Chain Wax.

chain guard is thicker n chain wax is thinner.

as per skateboy's post...

Maxima Chain Wax is preferred for class 2a and class 2 bikes as the chain will heat up faster to protect and lube the chain.

Maxima Chain Guard is recommended for class 2b bikes cos smaller bikes takes longer time to heat up the chain and where the lube is more on the watery side, it will start to lube the chain even before it gets heat up.

personally, i'm using Maxima Chain Wax as recommended by ANR Impex.

comments? speechless! try it out and u'll know the :thumb: abt it!
