Ok changed the nut as mentioned and reused eo. However it appears to me its still leaking. Damn it. New drain plug nut and o-ring. Dont know why still leaking. Could it be the crank case oil pan issue itself?

in the first place, did u trace to where the oil leak is coming from? places that i can tink of : crankcase, gear shaft oil seal, front sprocket oil seal. the last 2 u can open up ur front sprocket cover and check.

Its dripping from the oil nut (where you drain oil to change eo). Dripping at the very small gap between the nut and the crankcase. By right that gap should be sealed by the o-ring and nut. Dont know why still leaking. I try retrace, might be something leaking above that area and dripping onto the nut area. But i do realise the crankcase area mostly is dry but the oil nut is oily and slowly dripping.

if confirm leaking from the drain plug, and u have replaced both the nut and the o-ring, then left one more thing: the threads in the crankcase might be spoiled already. wat i would do (not sure if bikeshop will do) is wrap the drain plug threads wif teflon tape ( the white plumbers tape) then install back. if still leak, then no choice but find a way to repair the drain hole itself (not cheap n easy).

Yes I second that because I encountered before. Just change the rubber cap and case solved.

Hey guys i read the manual and it says my drain oil area should have the spring and oil strainer screen together with the nut and o-ring. It mentions that the spring and screen will come out when the nut is removed to drain the oil. However i do not see these when planet changed EO for me. Either its lodged inside somewhere or its plain, missing. Could missing these 2 parts lead to the oil leak prob i have?

There is a slight possibility la. since d spring can exert pressure on d drain plug n make it seal better. U can try buy from spare parts shops like eversuccess, fjt, everfit, chong aik, etc.

Hmmm seems like its not the drain plug thats causing the leak. I finally found a place that's leaking heavily, dripping onto the drain plug hence it looked as if the drain plug is leaking. Its the engine gasket between the oil pan and gearbox cover. Its leaking along the gaps.

Ok very sure its the paper gasket gone case. Upon opened by mech the gasket were all torn and it even sticked onto the engine casing in bits and pieces that need to use scraper to scrape off. Hopefully now it stops leaking.

^how much did you pay for the repair?

$60+ including EO, 1 engine gasket, 2 rubber seals (looked like ballbearings), workmanship and additionally i bought one bottle of fuel additive called "Power Max Fuel Economiser". I went to Lee Huat Motor at Bt Timah to get it done. Used to be where my dad goes to service his first ever bike 30 over years ago.

Hi guys, I've just gotten a Ta200, but the bike seems to has a winding noise from ghe engine whenever slowing down and pulling clutch in.. I've notice on the road also many other phantoms got the same metal winding noise when they stop at traffic light.. Is this a cause for concern? or just typical for a phantom?

Thanks! Will go there to solve the same problem for my bike since it is around my area.

Seems to be gear whine for me. When i rode the CB125 at BBDC the gear whine was way louder

Again another problem!

This morning was riding to work when I realised, whenever at traffic light stop, I rev abit, got this rattling sound coming from dunno where?! It's like rattle abit and stop, every time i twist throttle abit. It's not like a constant rattling throughout.

After reaching work, I try adjust the idle screw, turns out the rattling only becomes prominent at a specific RPM.

Anyone got any idea? Really worried it's some rods or valve knocking, gonna be a costly repair if so..

Seems to me like chain/sprocket issue. Unlikely to be gear whine. Gear whine usually occurs when accelerating mostly in the 6th gear, its a hauling, very irritating noise.

Most phantoms I see on the road have really badly maintained chain/sprockets thats why you hear that noise. Its is strange though that inspite of having 520 size chain it becomes loose and wears out so soon. Most 2b bikes live with 428 size chains.

Argh damn, and I thought phantom is supposed to be a super reliable and fuss free bike :/

It is a super reliable and fuss free and compared to other bikes it can take more abuse, but then all bikes need periodic maintainance.

How old is your bike? Mileage?

First register in 2005, so 7 years.. Odometer says 59xxx km. Engine sounds nice and smooth except for the darn rattling!

IC. Its not that old. I have ridden Phantoms with 90k+ mileage and the engine still hums nicely. Take your bike to Planet and get it checked and fixed. The rattling, if you are lucky could be only the tensioner which is not that expensive, but if it is cam chain worn or valves then need top overhaul. Since yours still have quite a bit of COE left, better to do top overhaul, if needed.

Get the chain/sprockets, tyres and brakes checked too. This is a must whenever you buy a used bike.
