I'm new to Singapore and was wondering if it is possible to carry a golf bag on my scooter. It has two straps so I would wear it like a backpack, but since it is so long, both ends would stick out 30-50 cm. I've done it before in other countries and as long as you are careful, there does not seem to be a major safety issue. Is this allowable in Singapore?

Singapore bikers don't play golf.. just kidding.:D :D.

Singapore traffic rules are silent on such matters, and I can assure you that you won't get a ticket for it.

You are talking about the golf bag that is slung perpendicularly to your body on your back type, right ? I wouldn't do that for your own safety because some local drivers are notorious in coming very close to bikers.

If you are on a scooter, it would be safer to place the bag of clubs between your leg.

Since the bag is fairly big, I think it's much more dangerous to place it between my legs than on my back. If that weight shifts around, I don't want to be trying to grab it when I might need my hands for something else important, like steering :) Maybe I'll tie some red fabric to both ends of it like the trucks do with wide loads.

Thanks.

I've seen bikers carry golf bags like you mentioned; with the bag slung across the back and kinda resting on the rear seat sticking out sidewards.

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think there would be a problem provided you don't try to squeeze between cars and take out their side mirror with you driver :cheeky: .

Then again, the bikers that I saw carrying their golf bags this way were riding bigger bikes; "can't remember if it was a gold wing" or one of those "adverture" type bikes.

I've seen bikers riding with their guitars strapped to their back as well. It protrudes out on top but i guess if you ride slow and is careful there shouldn't be any problem legally.

get a big scooter?

i remember seeing advertisement of X8 with golf bag in its compartment....

I'm looking at getting an X8. And while I haven't tried putting a golf club into its compartment, there's no way a whole golf bag would fit in there. At least not a full sized golf bag like the one I have.

As long as it is not illegal, I can deal with the safety issue and resist the temptation to lane split.

I've seen a man riding a yellow scooter quite a few times, with two big dogs in between his legs. I'm sure some of you riders out there may have seen it before. The dogs were amazingly calm throughout the ride.

Well anyway, carrying a big bag on a bike is not a traffic offence here.
