Riding my FZ1 this around and found some queries..hopefully some helpful bro here can reply

1. The temperature on the gauge measures what? Mine is showing ~100deg... normal?

2. Any recommendations for red handle grips? where to buy?

3. Found it a bit hot under the thigh part of legs. This is gonna sound silly but usually when i go for sports, i'll wear shorts... think going to be really hot... any suggestions if can modify the airflow a bit to avoid hitting underpart of the thighs?

1. normal

3. To me the heat is bearable, so no complaints. I heard we can wrap the exhaust headers with a special heat wrap that would reduce the heat you are feeling, not sure where to get it though.

If u feel that u bike is running a bit too hot, u can take out the thermostat and change to Engine Ice coolant. It help a lot. Cheers!!

Seen the heat wrap.. Used to have an MO for those if im not wrong. If the heat wrap is suppose to help reduce the heat, where does the heat go? Wouldnt it just make the engine much hotter?

Actually just follow ur bike manual and it will do..theres 101 ways for running in, each to his own preference but generally following the manual will be perfectly fine...

As for your chain, perhaps you can get it lubed first and see whether the funny noise is still there..

Hi wira,

Mine's an old & high mileage FZ1.... am starting to love this bike.. hv endless amt of power it seems (compared to S4 :p)

Just check with you, when i ride at low revs, the engine actually sounds like a truck! Do new engine sounds like tht? growl like a truck pulling... it seems the engine prefers me to ride it at least 4k rpm and above.

I think the heat would be carried out at the end of the exhaust?

The heat will be properly pushed out thru the end can. But do read up on the properly technique on heat wrapping. If its not done properly, water will seep in and stayed between the wrap and pipe. In the long run, it will corrode the pipe.

Your friend is right.

Changing of engine oil at 200km is good thing to do because during the initial 50km running in. The movement of the new pistons against the wall will scrap out metal flakes. By the changing the engine oil, you prevent the circulation of these unwanted metal impurities within the engine compartment. Your running in is not done yet so you shouldnt change to synthetic oil. You should use mineral oil till you finished running in.

Now dont pulled high rpm biking, sudden acceleration or do high speed travelling. At least wait after 500km where the pistons has been properly run-ed.

When i collect my bike, salesman told me to change 1st 500km semi- syn, next 1500km fully-syn, 2500 change full syn, then every 5000k normal EO.

Running in til 2.5k.. During running in, RPM within 4~5..

Been doing this since i collect bike last month..

Bro, I had oreadi change to synthetic oil like 5days back... Shld I change it back to mineral oil or Juz leave it n dun speed?

If you can spare the cash, why not? Just for the piece of mind. If not the bike is still cool with the oil. Just dont overload the bike before completing the run in. Ducati bike also come in stock to run in with fully syn engine oil.
