some says Shadow is "under-powered". but i think in singapore, it really doesn't matter. when I pick up my Shadow when the lights go green at traffic junction, i'm usually in front of most cars and bikes.

it is very comfortable to ride in one which I think is really important. its size is a challenge but also attracts some attention if you take good care of the exterior. I have people asking me if my Shadow is a 1000cc bike!

Engine overhaul is just a general term. To answer your question, yes. You could overhaul any motorcycle’s engine if there is a necessary need to.

If you don’t understand much about motorcycle, take along a friend/s who knows more than you do. Below are a few things that you could take as reference before spending your hard earned money.

· Research the characteristic manufacturing flaws of the model.

· Visual inspection. Make sure that there are no bends or scrapes on the bars, exhaust, plastic and levers. Check for parallel scratches or chips indicating the motorcycle may have been crashed or abused.

· Check the brakes and clutch for smooth operation.

· Look for rust or a milky paint-like coating on the inside of the gas tank. Dark gas is an indication that it has been sitting around for a long time.

· Check cracks and tears on the seat.

· Check tires for tread depth. Check for squared-off tires and any sign of dry rot (fine cracking).

· Check the electrical system by checking all lights and switches to make sure they work.

· The sound of the starter cranking is a fair indication of the battery condition.

· Check suspension forks for seal leaks. Push down on the suspension and the way it bounces back will tell you much about its condition.

· Check both sides of the wheels for dents/cracks and make sure they spin freely

· Check for chain/sprockets wear by looking for hooked teeth and stretched chain.

· Check the exhaust for scratches and holes caused by rust.

· Check fluid leaks from engine and carburetor.

· Always insist on a used motorcycle test ride. Besides telling you a lot about the condition of the bike, a test ride will ensure that you are comfortable with it.

· Make sure that you can afford the cost of spare parts and accessories.

:goodluck:

Well, you got to be clearer with your question or others would be getting the wrong interpretation and impression that you are seeking help purchasing a used motorcycle ha ha.

Steed is an old discontinued model as compare against Shadow and Slasher however, parts availability is still positive even with the Honda agent Boon Siew. Maintenance is a breeze with minimum worries and if you need accessories to mod up, Chong Aik and Loois Motor is carrying a wide range of left over.

Steed is pretty bullet proof if the owners did the servicing regularly. Used to ride one for 3 years, never had a problem with it. Except the time I left the ignition on and when I came back hours later, the battery was dead.

Spare parts should be still available from Honda.

It's a really good bike, and not much required in terms of maintainance costs.

Engine should sound smooth and no clatters or strange noises, or any kind of black/blue/white smoke coming out from the exhaust when you rev it up.
