Need some help on choosing a car..

hi.. currently my company is giving me $600 car allowance and $300 petrol allowance.. was wondering what car to buy... i kinda like Suzuki Swift.. Honda Fit.. Mazda 2...

 

should i buy 1st hand or 2nd hand...

 

i need to travel around sg quite alot.. which car have better FC...

 

If there is a better car than those 3 pls intro... thanks alot...

well if your allowance permit, fit/jazz is a better choice then swift, in term of FC and comfort or zhng-ability

 

but take note if one day your out of ur job, you will be tied down with the installment and such. hence do consider long term rather then taking ur job for granted.

 

may the day come not when u hate your job but you need it to maintain you car monthly expenses..

for me, i'll settle for a 2nd hand in good condition, at least u wont lose so much if you sell next time. also to take note, try not to stretch your installment also. new car, top 7 yrs, 2nd hand car (depending on the age), the number of years for loan should break even within 2 years should you want to sell it, so you will not lose so much also.

for me i still prefer my picanto.. since i dont do delivery of goods.. gd budget car which in the long run would save me more money for my personal asset building

lossing my job?? haha... tat's wat i fear too... i'm working as a sales engineer... which need me to travel around and sometime even to deliver stuff... tat's y i need a car... i cant ride my bike around... too unpresentable alr...

can i ask if i buy 2nd hand and drag my installment for 7 yrs oso... how long will i break even?

depends on how old is the car.. if you drag 7 yrs, meaning the car at most 3 yr old.. so it might take another 2 and 1/2 - 3 yr to break even if your interest is at 3%..

 

if 600 per mth for ur installment, i rather u get a 2nd hand car, max out the 600 mthly tat company gif you to pay the installment. maybe u can settle for 4 yr or less, that after which if you sell, you wont make a loss

 

if u work for 3 - 4 yr, then the car is yours, else if u sell u wont lugi.. win-win

is ur RVF still under installment? if yes, you might want to consider if selling it you will lose money or not... if no, then if your job dont require you the time for biking, just sell it lo.. unless your passion for riding is as much as mine.. lol

 

i presume this is your 1st job, so you can expect your basic to go up (slightly) as the years goes by. if your job got comm + basic, i shouldnt be a prob

If you are asking that question, it means you should sell your bike to relief some financial load.

 

My advice:-

 

Go for a second hand car. Cheap one under $40k

Be willing to down some money and try to reduce your instalment period as much as you can.

 

In this way your car allowance can pay off the car in a shorter period and after that, you can be more at ease.

 

My philosophy is this: the car is a slave to you, not the other way. If you become a slave to the car, then it is already a mistake and a big signal for you to get rid of it.
