Been riding my MP3 for 2 weeks plus. Already run in and went back to Piaggio Service Centre for 1st servicing. To date mileage already at 1600 km. Manage to clock in 132km/h and still got a bit more ups left I guess, coz did not try further. No problem to hit 130 km/h with pillion. 120 to 130 km/h stretch was a bit of a drag but still attainable.

Cornering was a breeze now. When I 1st got it, the front end tend to have a mind of its own. Kinda want to dip in lower by itself. But after riding for a number of time, got the hang of it and everything sets in beautifully. Slight drift when cornering at higher speed....

Parking is so damn easy. Just lock the front, dismount and push to the lot. (for reverse parking). I must say that it's a tat heavier than X8 but no problem. Moving off when stopped at traffic lights with front suspension locked is still a thing to master. Coz if the front are not locked dead center, than when you open throttle, the bike tends to move in the direction with the suspension released at last locked setting. So I get by this by just holding brake and revving up a bit to release the lock and go. The part about not requiring to put down the foot is not for me. Just feel different doing it, so I'm OK about just riding as per normal.

One last thing. If anyone is intending to get this bike, be prepared to get a lot of stares, questions and weird remarks. But I must say that, there were people who did ask sensible questions. Whatever the world say, I don't give a damn. I like this bike and since I'm riding it, I'm prepared for anything........

How's the off-the-line performance? Is it fast enough to out-accelerate cars at traffic lights? (and can you clarify whether you have a 125 or 250cc?) That to me is more important than top speed and as we all know, this bike is seriously heavy.

I must admit that my previous bike i.e. X8 200 was better off-the-line. I believe it is due to the weight of the MP3. On the consolation, the drag is just for a few meters and after that, it'll give you what you want. The whole drag is just a short while and shooting off from traffic stops wouldn't make much of a difference anyway. It won't hang you back when other vehicles are already off. You've got to try it to feel it for yourself. Just head down to Piaggio Center at Genting Rd and give it a try... To sum up, with all the pros and cons, I'm not dissapointed with this bike.

BTW, I'm riding the 250.....

Thanks. I already took it on a test ride and thought it's zippy enough while riding, but at the time didn't pay much attention to off-the-line acceleration. It's just kind of scary if (hypothetically) you squeeze to the front of the line and then cars overtake you at the traffic lights (I don't like anything that comes from behind because you can't see it :p ) Moreover, you always get the odd driver that's pissed off that you squeezed to the front -- better to get away :)

Other than that, the safety aspect of this bike is very appealing. Most of the time two wheels are enough, but in a near-accident situation, 3 can make the difference. Came across this very interesting blog on motorcycle safety by the way (off topic but hey, aren't we here because we have too much time? ):

http://www.msgroup.org/DISCUSS.asp

According to this, most accidents involve poor cornering technique (under or over-leaning, with attendant consequences) or skidding / losing control of the bike during an emergency brake -- both problems that the MP3 should greatly reduce.

Very good that we have forumers riding this bike! Hope the 400cc one will prove to be even better! :cheeky:

Sad to say that I've yet to see another MP3 on the road. Saw one way before I got mine but was heading in a different direction. Saw another one parked on the pavement but that was it....

Hello Everyone!

Thanks to Piaggio(Asia Pacific) and Brembo, I have had the opportuniity to have tested the MP3-125cc, in Singapore and all the way to Hatyai, Thailand(approx. 2500km).

The MP3 is a fantastic ride and I'd personally vouch for it's reliability and stability, under any riding situation and weather condition.

Amazingly, the engine was still "purring" after going through all the difficult/steep roads and terrain, in and around Malaysia and Thailand.

So for those still pondering on whether it's a good enough scooter for our roads here and in Malaysia.....Don't!!!

There's definately more pros then cons when dealing with the MP3.

Just go and get it!

Kudos... :thumb:

This is funny.... this is a radical design bike, hence will take a while for majority to accept. Of course, many out there are waiting for this bike to proof it road worthiness and durability....:)

AJ, Just a question, since you rode your way up north any problem with the bike clearing the immigration booth. dId you use the car clearing booth or the bike clearing booth. Cos was afriad the lane for the bike clearing booth might be too small for thefront wheel.

hi conric :)

i can help answer your question on my hubby's behalf.

we cleared immigration and customs through the usual bike lane.

mp3 is not that wide if one compares it to the goldwing or the harley's.

actually, the only delay we faced was when the thai customs could no register the mp3 as a motorised vehicle because it was not programmed in their system.

but now it is and no problems for future scooterists

after that, it was all, plain sailing.

great trip!!! :thumb:
