Which Maxi for Singapore? (XEvo 400, SilverWing 400 or Scarabeo 500)

Hi all,

I'm looking at 400cc scooters to commute to work, get around on weekends and take the occasional road trip to Melaka or KL.

I'm puzzled by the Singapore market. Outside of Asia, the Aprilia Scarabeo 500 gets the best reviews, followed by the Piaggio XEvo 400 and the Yamaha Majesty 400, with the Honda SilverWing 400 coming in last.

However, in Singapore, everyone says the Silverwing is the top seller, followed by Piaggio (mostly second-hand X9's and X8's), then the Majesty (people complain about terrible resale value) - and there's only ONE new Scarabeo I know of - a 2004 hanging on the wall at Mah's. o_O (I LOVE the Scarabeo, but I'm not sure I want to have the ONLY one in town...)

So what's the deal?? Which is the best maxi-scooter for Singapore, and why?

I appreciate everyone's advice!

Why silverwing hot here?

Cos over rated..... and in SG.. Honda has best pricing for repair and spare parts... thats why...

Aprilla here not tat popular cos of price & availability of spare parts.....

PP here worry about resale value as well.

Ultimately you have to make a choice... GET A BIKE U LIKE or follow the crowd......

parts are hard to come by for aprilia here in sg..i tink weather plays a part too..insurance may be higher.there is no best maxi scooter in sg..just that 1 that suits the most of ur purpose of it.u want comfort, power, handling, ease of maintanence etc..

for me i can forgo the storage space asi can squeeze 2 AGV Blades in my tmax with a RS Taichi Raincoat set under my Tmax without trouble (1st timers will take abt 10 mins to figure it out).Silverwing has the H badge which by in Asia has the best back up n resale. Also 500cc in sg is considered Class 2 whr not many (Compared to 2A) scooter 1st timers will be willing to plunge n pay that much for a scooter. The Scarabeo is no doubt a nice bike but the parts are hard to come by in sg..theres a bro of mine that has 2(200cc)..both not working coz a certain part costs more than the price he bought the bike with..lol

Go to SW cafe and ask around. Quite a lot of us are upgraders from X9 to SW.

Why most of us "upgraded" is because:

1) Piaggio scooters are too unreliable. Breakdowns are quite common during ride. :(

2) Spare parts are expensive (exchange rate issue) plus parts also don't last long. Eg. Compare X9 belt change [(18000KM (max) , 12000km (recommended)] vs Honda SW [(40000KM TO 50000KM (Max), 24000km (recommended)]

Max: mileage tested out by bikers

Recommended : mileage given by manual.

Scarabeo is quite a good bike also, just that the spare parts is not easily available.

Therefore in terms of reliability, spare parts availability and ride feeling (subjective). SW is the prefer choice IMHO.

July 2004 to Nov 2006 X9 amalfi

Dec 2006 to Jan 2010 Honda SilverWing 400

Feb 2010 to Nov 2015 Honda Fit

Dec 2015 to Oct 2017 Toyota ISIS

Feb 2017 to May 2017 Honda ST1300

Jun 2017 onwards Honda Silverwing 400

understand that the belt can last that long...but how about the rollers? can they last that long?

What about the Majesty 250 and 400. Are they suitable for our roads? I'm looking to change to a maxi scoot sometime in the future, and I like the Majesty range.

I used to be a car person. Then one day, I woke up and became a biker.

Ex rides:

Nissan Sunny 1.6

Nissan Cefiro 2.0

Honda CBR 150 R

Honda CBR 400 RR Fireblade

Current rides:

Yamaha 2008 YZF-R1

KIA Cerato Forte 1.6 Well OK sometimes a car comes in handy.

The Majesty looks like a great bike, but dealers say resale value is zippo. The Burgman gets FANATICAL RAVE reviews in the US, Europe and Australia - but no one seems to want them here.

...So I went ahead today and bought the Silverwing! AS Phoon - they expect to have the deed done by next week.

I think it was the right thing to do, and I'm confident I'll be happy with it.

Thanks everyone for all your help!! See y'all on the road!
