Whats the price now for a 2002 VTEC VFR 800 ?

With underseat exhaust, is the pillion seat just warm or is it uncomfortably hot?

The 1998-2001 model is also 800cc but without the VTEC is it?

Is it worthwhile to renew the coe of 98-01 VFRs ?

How much will it cost incl the renewed coe?

Many thanks.

Big bike resale values in Sg are rather low and VFR are no different, so great values can be had. My friend got a 1.5 yr old 6th gen (vtec) for only $14K and I got my 1st 2yr old 5th genner for $12K and the 2nd 5.5 yr old 5th gen for $5.5K 3 yrs ago from a friend.

Me and another forumer here just renewed our 5th genner for $879 for Apr 09. The renewal rate varies month to month so check the LTA website for details here https://vrl.lta.gov.sg/lta/vrl/action/pubfunc?ID=EnquirePQPRates

I feel the 5th genner is a better VFR and worth throwing a some money to bring it up to great riding condition if it does not have any serious crash damage.

about the price, u have to search for previous viffer sale to gauge urself... for the underseat exhaust wise, althou my ride has no underseat but i have nvr heard of any complaints on the exhaust for 6th gen...

but for renewing coe, i can ans ur ques... definitely worth every single cents to renew the 5th gen (98-01 VFR) :thumb:

Thanks for the advice. 1 worry in my mind though is that for the 5th gen, its an old & rare big bike. Worried that spares maybe a problem in future.

So I guess the underseat exhaust of the VFR 6th gen shoudnt be generating heat like the R1.

But from the other post in this forum, seems that under SG conditions, the engine is going to be running very hot all the time. ( That was what happen to my CBR 929 previously) And I'm 99.9% riding on SG roads.

Think I will take a look at 600s as well.

Sounds like there will be a chance to get a 3 year old 6th gen for $10k. :)

I also own an 06 R1 and i can tell you that the R1 lets the rider feel a greater amount of heat than the VFR. By comparison the VFR is way cooler than the R1. The heat from the R1 comes up from the engine and not the exhaust and your thigh and nuts gets roasted. The only "problems" with under seat exhaust is that there is less underseat storage and your clothes smells of exhaust after a ride.

As for spares and old bikes, its the same story for out of season big bikes. But there's always eBay. My 9.5 yrs old has not required anything that the local shops cannot supply to date.

You need to be certain that you want a VFR as its power output character is very different than an inline 4 like the 600cc sport you are contemplating.

The inline sports tend to pack a surge at the upper portion of the rev range while the V4 has a very linear pull. This tends to give the feeling that the V4 are low on power. Much the same kind of feeling when riding a V-Twin.

Thanks vfrT for the invalueble advice.

My experience on V twin is the old learner FZ150. (2002) Not sure if that counts !

Pity that Honda intends to discontinue the VFR800, just like the Blackbird.

NewFull fairing sports bikes that dont come with "stepped" seats are dying out. sigh..

Sorry, I don't mean to be HL here.

But if you think that the engine of the Viffer is hot, then you ain't try nothing yet.

You have got to try out the Yamaha "Fabulous-Joy-Ride". That one, same like the R1, can "cook" your thighs and nuts while travelling on SG roads and get caught up in a traffic jam... Not very good for "pro-creation".... lolz...

The engine heat from Viffer is nothing compared to the Yamaha rides (I am not saying that the Yamaha are NOT good.).

However, I may be wrong in comparing the heat generated from a 800cc vs a 1.3L.

Cheers. :)

1998-2001 -- 5th gen

2002 onwards -- 6th gen

2010 onwards -- VFR1200

differences that i can think of

1) gear-driven cam vs chain-driven cam

2) 6th gen has the honda so called "improved" rectifier

3) 6th gen got the option for ABS

links for you to read

5th gen

6th gen
