The Vanson has that short protection feature too. I am a very satisfied user of the Vanson, using it for 2 yrs+. Just leave it on and forget about it, no worries of overcharging or shorts. Can't beat the price :thumb:

:btw: I 4got to mentioned that the CTEK chargers - has a 8 stage charging function ............. ..... :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

I am curious how does that help? Maintenance free batt dies after around 2~3yrs when the insides eventually dry out.

The charger has some features, nicely emphasized in the website. But my question to limbat is what difference does the '8 stage charging' make in lifespan as compared to the vanson I am using? I am keen to get one if there is.

6 stage?

http://www.ctek.com/US/MUS7000/charging.asp

With the vanson, I am already getting the 3yrs+ and 45,000km for the MF battery, which is the typical lifespan till the acid dries out. I am just asking limbat if his product can extend lifespan beyond that in order to worth the difference in cost, and how much better it can perform in this aspect.

It states clearly the '8 stage charging mechanism' optimizes the life span of the battery. it doesn't state that it lengthens the life span of the battery.

Whether or not u tink the this product is worth the money is like whether u prefer to drink in zouk or at coffee shop.

in any case, since u have had experience in the vanson charger that, too, optimises the battery's life span, u shld be happy :)

No more regrets.

Sorry bro, electrical engineering isn't based on lifestyle choices. CTEK made an effort to make a technologically advance product and markets it, it is sad if consumers think as you described.

All chargers cannot extend battery life, their job is to charge the battery when the need arises. Some like CTEK thru electronics refine the charging method - thus optimizing the battery (by which we believe they last longer).

Battery life span really depends a lot of other factors as well. CTEK XS7000 allows you to recondition your battery as well, but the XS7000 is mostly for dealers to try save a battery if it still can be save - bec it is not easy to dispose of damage baterry of any kind.

As to if it is worth " the difference in cost, and how much better it can perform in this aspect " - I personally think it is, bec U have to look at all aspect of this new charger - we have customers in the northern hemisphere who charges their bike for 4 months at 1 go .......

Everything in life is about choice, sadly some ppl think they dun have a choice. Thank you for pointing out that CTEK is a " technologically advance product " - so U see - the layman choice is just to buy or not - strictly speaking. So can we sell you a unit to help us test it against your Vanson :cheeky:

Pls dun be sad for any1 - they are entitled to their views just like yourself ................

Thanks for the offer limbat :thumb: Btw, I do not sell Vanson, I just find it an excellent product and does all that a battery charger can do for my application. I am hoping CTEK can up the bar. I do park my bike for long periods unfortunately, hence I keep the Vanson hooked up and well used.

ok, I need a weighing machine. The weight isn't specified on the charger or the manual

Thank mate .......... as to the matter of weight - the pocket-size CTEK charger XS800 at 500grams or half a kilo can be easily shared among friends or bikers.

This XS800 can be easily carried on long trip as a backup, every unit comes wif a extra charging Plug cord to allow charging without removing the battery, just plug & charge.

Most of us may not need a battery charger all the time, by sharing the overall cost will be lowered.
