Waterproof pants that have full-length side zippers

I try to cover myself up as much as possible. However, sometimes the pants are just a pain to get on (because I'm also wearing riding boots). I'm looking for a pair of waterproof pants that have zippers that run the entire length on the side for easy-on-and-off.

 

Just wondering if anyone knows of a particular model that is available in Singapore. I messaged multiple apparel shops in Singapore but I'm not getting any good responses.

Such a thing doesn't really exist. If it's rain gear, the zipper makes the pants useless.

 

If it's leather or mesh riding pants for protection, the zipper makes it a weak spot, and also useless.

 

Most rain pants are stretchy at the waist and ankles to help you put on and take off.

 

Leather riding pants sometimes have a short zipper about 6 inches long at the side of the ankle and at your groin, but not all the way along the side of the pants.

TS, wouldn't it be better if you take out your shoes first? I have my boots on when i ride as well, thats what I do.

Anyway, I am looking for rain pants that have zip/Velcro.

 

But after what @reize has mentioned above, zip is kinda useless unless its of waterproof zip.

Just called Chong Aik up and a female sales agent told me that all of their pants have Velcro on. Will be going down to have a look though

I do that too, and it's a major pain in the butt, especially if it's raining and I have to struggle to get my Drymaster over everything in the big rain. That's why I decided to look for something waterproof and easy-on. That it's easy-on means it'll be on me at all times anyway, so if it starts raining I can just pop my rain jacket over my top.

 

(Anyway, if you're looking for rain gear that's easy-on, these pants seem like they were designed solely for the zippers and waterproofing.)

 

The zippers will have storm flaps inside and/or velcro on the outside to make it waterproof. Of course, however rubberized or how much water-resistant spray they spray on the zippers, I still think a physical barrier between the rain and the zippers are the way to go.

 

On protection, I agree that it will be compromised, but that's something I'm willing to live with. If it's easy to wear, I have no excuse to just wear a pair of long pants.

 

I have a list of pants that fit my criteria:

Icon Patrol

Tour Master Overpants (built-in liner)

Olympia Airglide 4 (a little pricier, but versatile in that the lining can be worn underneath or over the shell; liner has no zippers though which kinda defeats the purpose)

Olympia Sentry (seems perfect as the lining and shell all have zippers, removable means if the weather gets too much I can remove it)

Scorpion Seattle WP Pants (like a pricier version of the Sentry)

 

There are many others pants that fit the criteria, but it looks like these are the better ones. There's one from Revit that has received complaints for tending to slide off in a crash.

 

Unfortunately, other than the Icon Patrol which has two-way zips, all have only one-way zips, so they can't double up as vents.

 

These aren't available locally, so I have to ship them in from overseas. I'm considering using EZBuy for that. I was originally looking to avoid that, which prompted the post.

There are alot of shops in SG doing raincoat as well, along jln besar, etc. Have you paid them a visit or two

I had the same problem. So I took my rain pants to a tailor and asked her to add long zippers to the inside of my pant legs. The zipper basically ran all the way to the crotch.

 

The zipper is of course not waterproof, so some rain will get in. Your legs will remain mostly (but not completely) dry since the zipper is on the inside of the pant leg, which is less exposed to the rain than the outside. It's not perfect, but surely better than not wearing rain pants at all.
