How do you clean your chain? Can use WD40?

Spray WD40, wipe away den lube the chain?

I'll use normal soap with water first. Once cleaned, let it fully dry.

After that ride around your estate for 5mins make the chain heat up. Then lastly you lube it.

Ok, thanks for the advices.

To ride on the road, You need skills,Stamina, or even luck.

But to be a good rider, you have to change with your environment, and adjust yourself to its rhythm.

Cultivate the confidence to face the different situations. Don't let yourself to be subdued by the environment :thumb:

Does using a proper chain cleaner gets the chain back to its "flexible" state? Anyway, i got a bad experience with using diesel for chain cleaning. Chain will rust.

U might. No harm trying. When cleaning just keep flexing the link. Sumtyms can get rid of the stiff links. Try kerosene instead bro. Experienced sum rust wif diesel too. Faster take out ur gixxer lei brooo.. Haha!

i use muc off degreaser to clean the chain first. works very well, spray on, let it sit for 1 minute, wipe off with tissue till dry and clean. relube.

anyway, i have realised if you keep your chain clean since day 1, as in keeping it lubed regularly. you don't have to spend as much time cleaning it, since it washes off much easier.

there are bikes where the owners never bother to clean or lube chain, you can see the gunk on it, and no matter how much you clean, there will be stuff left in between the links.

in the end, change new sprocket and chain, easier to lube and clean man.

i put it into a small spray bottle. soaked the chain wif kerosene. let it sit for a few minutes, then take small soft brush n just scrub. once done, i spray diluted dishwashing soap and continue scrubbing to remove the kerosene n dirt (kerosone the residue very oily - if dont remove ,ur lube wont stick). then go for a short ride to dry the chain. then quickly lube.

Oh boy - I've been riding for over 1 year and never cleaned the chain. So I bought a MuckOff chain cleaner and started spraying with an old toothbrush handy. Wah - finished the whole can and it's still dirty. Lesson learnt - little and often.

while i was cleaning my chain earlier today, i think i scrubbed too hard with the chain scrubber and 1 O ring broke and fell off, would that cause any problems in future ?

well yes and no...

no..no problem in the immediate future..

yes...now your chain will be downgraded to a normal chain...ie without o rings..as the chain will fail at the roller where the o ring is damaged

I thought the O ring use is to hold the lube inside, so just that particular damage part will be acting as a normal chain ? Or it's like a disease, the damage will spread causing the entire system to collapse ?

the old proverb...the strength of a chain is at its weakesk link...will apply very aptly in this case.

all it need is to have a link fail..the whole chain is useless

so beware..grunch brushes made of brass wires..or any wire brushes should no be used in cleaning chains..

use soft used toothbrushes...

the best is still and oiler ...my favourite device for chain cleaning and lubing...

My brush is those typical chain cleaning brush sold online, the blue one, either i'm using too much strength or the fibers are strong and, yes, no doubt an oiler is a tool to simplify these processes, but i'm more of a hands on person.
