Need advice. I have a fren whom will be going overseas for 2 years. He has a 3 months old Optra which he offered to let me carry installment this 2 years while he is away. Monthly i need to pay $600. Upon insurance & road tax expired I will pay. When he is back I return the car in whatever condition. His previous car total lost and he over trade into this car. A new car cost around $48k machine price I think. Is this a 'go' or 'no go'?

Is same as $0 driveaway, based on installment 14k+ over the 2 years. 1 year lose 7k.

Sounds good to me, since 2 years later some parts will show signs of wear and tear if u often travel around.

If I were you, I will not go for this.

Take note that you are 'renting' this car. $600 per month is as good as an installment of a new car. In addition, Road tax and insurance is considered your expenditure. On top of that, the maintenance will be your cost too. Given all these, you are as good as renting on extra costs.

I will not drive if I have to scrimp and save. Having a car is going to reduce a lot of your finance. Think carefully.

I think the only advantage is 2 year later I can change car and not having to stick to me permanently as an liability. Expenditure on cars is expected. What i'm thinking is weighting against buying a new car myself. Is it better or the same? Taking the brand and make of this car into consideration is it worth for me to pay every month $600?

PS: i can afford a car, just want to get the best deal.

bro sure worth, 2 years later maybe hit 50k milage some pump and belt/rubber stuffs might tearing already. by the time he return back to the owner he might have a headache in the maintenance cost alone. optra roadtax and insurance is not that high also if consider as a $0 downpayment driveaway, i will get this.

TS also mention he got $$ so nothing to be worried abt. Just go for it!

IMO its worth it. 600 X 24 = 14,400

like what another bro mentioned here, to lose 7k a year based on a newly purchased car is quite the norm. considering you don't need to put any downpayment. If me, I sure grab.. but too bad, I already drive the smaller brader, Chevy Aveo SS..

I will say the deal is pretty fair.

$600/mth is only $20 daily.

Insurance will be around 1-2K i guess.

Road tax will be ~ $800 per year.

Maintenance in 2 years = 4 servicings.

But the best thing is the car is still under warrenty. After 2 years, you get your own car, you enjoy another 3/5 years warrenty.

Slow down abit, smell the air and enjoy the scenery.

Caught the touring bug once again!

The clause only happen for you in 2yrs, after it, no string or burden attached. Sort of like you taking care of his car for 2yrs and selling it at zero money back. Are you close to this friend of yours? Letters and notification will be sent to his house and you will have to collect it to process all insurance and road tax or anything including summons.

Dig out old thread to ask. What are the pros and cons of a chevy optra? I know there are bad comments between Thai made and Korean made, but i think the optra is really quite nice for its price, looks solid to me.
