Wheres the east coast of southeast asia?

First of all, to buy the bike and ride it out of the shop, u have to hold a singapore license and be insured.

Alternatively you can maybe buy the bike, de-register it and get the paperworks done and get it towed to the customs out of singapore. Thats my opinion, you got to check with Singapore Land Transport Authority about the legal issues.

Lastly, where will u be dumping the bikes? Let us know.

1. Nope, you cannot buy a bike.

2. Where do you plan to stop at South East Asia? At China?

3. You need a big cc bike for that kinda of trip, or you can easily buy a small Honda Wave and do the trip, at least from Thailand. Malaysia, we cannot be sure that its legit.

Because there is no rental services of bikes in Singapore, if that happens, its done thru word of mouth. And if you want to rent, you need to be prepared that the bikes models are not what you may be comfortable with. Most likely, the bike owner that rent you the bike will need to fly up to whatever you are stopping to collect the bike.

There is a option of leaving the bike with someone that actually has a home in the country you are stopping and the owner collecting the bike and riding it back to sg.

Or, if there is a charity organisation that takes in bikes. Especially touring bikes (Which is to me, unheard of.)

You can also purchase a bike from Singapore, listing a Singaporean as the owner and yourself as sub riders. Then take the bike to where ever and have those Singaporean fly up to where ever you are stopping, to collect and ride the bike back to Singapore. (I guess its considered a Charity then.)

I can think of a few more possibilities, but those takes a lot of co-ordinations and working out with various parties at various countries.

BTW, if I am really going to be settling in Thailand for the rest of 2009.

Have already some folks in mind that will be riding some of my future bikes up to Thailand for me and parking them there.

it probably could be done but its just too remote a possibility

Thanks for your info

LordCani think i should of said up the east coast of Malaysia, this is not really a sight seeing trip, it is for just the adverture of doing it, what we get to see and the people we will meet along the way will be a bonus, we have 2 weeks to get 2 Cambodia

for a Party :) it is no race and we will just stop where we like depending where we are and how much time we have, we have a couple place's, which we want to see that is all,

ViciousKitty74 if we can get some bikes, im pretty sure we can get them aleast into Cambodia, beyond there after the party not to sure, but our friends in Cambodia are looking into it for us for the best way when we cross into Vietnam, our trip will finish in Honai in Vietnam, bikes or not ! we have total of 4 weeks from start to finish to try and do this , if not we miss the plane home, no big deal atleast we tried :)

what happens to the bikes when we are finished happens, and what i ment by charity was with someone who we think needs them and we think deserves them, maybe they will only make it so far who knows what will happen

there is 4 people wanting to do this trip so far and there wil probly be a couple more

once the plans have been sorted,

Crusty,

Do you know what is a Honda Wave aka the Kup Kia? And I do not doubt that anyone can tour asia on them. Plenty of folks who did that.

But land of Oz, like USA dont exactly has those small cc bikes.

If you've ever been to Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar & Vietnam, then I think you get what I mean about small or big touring bikes.

And countries like Thailand, Vietnams, big cc bikes to the locals means at least a few years gross pay. Maintaining them is a biatch, the tax, corruption monies to keep them is not for the faint hearted Asians.

Plus the paperwork.......in sg and overseas......will need your personal presence or attention, unless you did up a Power of Attorney so that paper work can be dealt with thru your local agents. (To deregister the bike, take back whatever remaining amount from the insurance, road tax & blah blah blahs that sg gahment has in store for bike owners.)

BTW, I hope you guys are coming over with mesh armour jackets or planning to buy from Singapore.

For planning the trip, when you are noting down the routes, please also jot down the contact numbers of private hospitals near the routes, make it a list and bring along a packet of stuffs that will be suitable for any hospital stay.

we have never had any intension of buying big cc bike's for the trip, and yes i do know what a wave is and that is what we are interested in getting or something similiar, and there is plenty of small cc bikes in Australia now but there got different names but designs are the same,

have a look at this link this might explain abit what our trip is about, but we are not connected to them, but the challenge for us completing the trip is the same

self satifaction and the experiance you share with your mates along the way

http://www.postiebikechallenge.org/the_challenge.htm

as for the risks, we understand them, thats why we plan things before we do it

anyway thought i started this post about trying to buy bikes in singapore

not ,

Ok, I leave this to others to answer about foreigners buying bikes from Singapore and riding and disposing the bikes overseas.

If you are succesful in getting the bikes in your own name and can dispose of them yourselfs. Do post here again to let others that might want to follow your footsteps.

my advise is don't get small bikes from sillypore coz they r more expensive even though it is 2nd hand.

just travel a short distance across into johore, malaysia.

tons of small bikes at less than half price due to currency rate n lesser tax.

if u r getting litre bikes then sillypore is worth getting it.

i would get the bikes from malaysia, its cheaper and there's less stringent red tape regulation

ya, if u get it in malaysia, u dun have to worry about the yearly payment stuffs ie; insurance, road tax, etc... they wont have the resource to track u down to fine u for ur overdue road tax...

Or, if you would.....go up to Vietnam, get the bikes there and ride it to Singapore. From sg, you can box the bikes and fly them back to Oz.

Or have the local sg bikers, take over and dispose of your bikes in Malaysia for you. (Am not sure if Vietnam is as stringent as bike ownership, disposal or insurances as Singapore.)

Someone from sg can ride it back up to Vietnam.(Which have been done, just whether they want to do another triip.)

*Or can get someone to ship it thru his fishing boats, containers last resort.*

stsoh and newbie thanks for the advice think i might have to start looking at that angle too

loufu what you say makes it sound to good to be true, what is the same as the LTA in malaysia

or what site would i look at to find more info about this

ViciousKitty74 your back im happy, still looking at the Vietnam route, waiting on my mates to get back to me if we can take bikes into there ye,t if not starting there might be a option, taking bikes home is not a option, cheaper to leave them here even if get half the price, looking at another option but have to be there and experiance it ourselve's first, your idea people riding them back ! will look at all options with my mates soon and decide best thing to do, with the help and the idea's we are getting from you all here, we will make it one way or the other, anymore info or ideas most welcome

its http://www.jpj.gov.my for the malay website or http://portal.jpj.gov.my/v5/index.php?lang=en

for english.

however info in english is very very limited. do check it out. perhaps we can assist you if you could be more specific of your plans.

firstly : what bike are you looking to get or what type of bike?

secondly : you MUST buy it in cash.

thirdly : you must enquire if u can register/transfer a vehicle when u dont have a permanent address (there are lots of foreigners in malaysia who own vehicles but do have an address) i think it should be no biggie.

There shouldnt be a problem of riding a bike into Vietnam. Its just a matter of confirming your insurance (Might have to buy there, like going thru Thailand.) And their import or road tax issues. (Might have to pay.)

You cant ride into China only.
