Hello folks,

I'm interested to get an RS. However what's holding me back as of now is my inexperience with bikes. I'm new to this whole bike thing, you know?

Anyway, my financial situation only allows me to get a 2nd hand RS. A new one (what was it, 15 grand?) is definately no-no. What I'm worried about is that I don't know how to tell a good bike from a bad one. In terms of it's condition, internals etc. I don't want to buy a bike, then have something blow up on me, and then have to spend large sums of money to replace the part(s). Large sums because well, RS parts aren't cheap, so I heard.

Please advise me on how I should proceed from here. I would love to get my hands on one of these beauties.

You are going down the right track. First thing you should consider is are you comfortably able to afford buying a consumption good. Contrary to popular belief, a motorbike or a car is NOT an investment. In addition to parts and servicing you should go check out cost of insurance as well. I believe some people here pay more than 1,500 per year to get insurance.

Having said that, my bike is up for sale as well. Engine and internals are perfect, happy for you to bring it to First Motor for inspection. Had a fall before and fairings have been repaired - good opportunity for new paint job. Drop me a message if you are interested. April 2008 RS125 in Spains No.1 color. +65 9366 6548

Thanks all for the replies.

eddy, yes I am trying to do my sums to see if I can afford keeping an RS. However, as I know pretty much nothing on this bike (other than it handles really well), I can't really do any figures. I hope someone can answer my questions.

What kind of servicing needs to be done, how often and how much? Which are the parts that need to be replaced often, and at what costs? Fuel consumption, what's it like? What kind of fuel does this bike drink? 2T?

blast3dGal, maybe you are right. That is why I posted here, to see if I can comfortably afford one.

Say, what's the rough guide on insurance for a 19yo p-plate for this bike? Which insurance company should I go for?

Hi guys. Has anyone bought the RSV4? Pls PM your deal details. Trying to suss out the better deals.

Maybe you should state what is your budget?

Basic servicing is washing of carb, powervalve, changing gearoil etc. Servicing of carb and powervalve wont come more than $60 bucks unless you go the those super shops that chop you upside down.

Fuel consumption depends on you! How you choose to tune your bike. Average should be 20Km per litre. 2T is not a fuel, this bike drinks minimum 95 petrol. 2T again is up to ur choosing. From $12 to $20plus.

Insurance already been discussed recently. 19yr old P plate? Minimum $750 for 3rd party under NTUC.

Ya. E stock a10 is made in france. but e tire we got here heard is made in japan. bros use a10 pls correct me if i m wrong. hehe, i think if i wan can last until 25000km then change, cos both r still quite good

My tires lasts about 6 hours of riding on the track. (about 4 to 5 track sessions), depending on how you wanna push it. But the sides would have been fully worn once i am done with it. Not sure about the road tho.

The Bridgestone Battleax BT090 is pretty good too. Have tried it and I think the compound is softer than the A-10 after properly warmed up.

In my opinion, the most important thing to do is to get the tire pressure right, so invest in a good pressure gauge!!

agree, e pressure is very important. n oso run on nitrogen is better than air. felt tires r cooler

Yo.. i got my tyre changed at FM, who knows what compound its using..? and is there anything to take note about new tyres ?

a10 shoud be mid-compound la. new tires got grease, dun corner too low...

2yrs is very long.. and i dont go to track too.. :Dwhat is this red line thing you talking about.?

my work place is near mah, hehe

e red line or yellow line is e wear indicator, when u see e line means ur tires' time is up liao. or if u see uneven worn, flat spot, canvas or deep cut or exessive worn on shoulder u should change ur tire oso

bro zero stated very clear already. e servicing is not expensive, base on e recommanded schedule is every 4000km. but if any part is due to change, that will cost u a lot. n e insurance for 19 yr P plate will be very high. at least 1000 for 3rd party i guess.

petrol 95 is e minimum requirement n i believe most ppl here at least use 98. for myself i use VP n 1 litre can go ard 25km.

if u dun have a stable income n budget constraint n dun intend to ride aprilia for a long time. my advice is dun buy aprilia.

looks like everyone had answered all the necessary... As for insurance, best if you do own research, i.e. call up all insurance company and ask for a quotation yourself...

Last yr AXA dont take P plater Aprilia riders. so you may wanna ask them and see if their policy had changed. NTUC should quote you above 1K for 3PFT.

If you are looking for 2nd hand, itd be good to go with one of our seniors at their free time (not yours) You have to fit your schedule into theirs. Otherwise, any tom **** and harry may just anyhow throw in bombastic jargans that mean nothing at all to you, for you to buy at a price not worth to pay..

Basic servicing is affordable below $100 and that is recommended to be done at least once a month or every 4000-5000km. If you fall, or had some parts broken, then thats another story... A full overhaul cost roughtly $1K.. recommended to do once a year or once in 2 yrs, i think.. piston seize, and you have to pay $300 just for the piston and piston ring.... Our tyres itself could easily fetch $300 a pair. Our rear sets itself could fetch $100.. our original clutch lever itself is $70 each. Our mirrors are $60 each...

So ya, like others who have spoken said, if you dun intend to keep this baby for long, dun intend to go track, then its not worth. If you intend to keep and get those tyres burning on the track, then go for it.

Fuel consumption, depends on how you ride, i'm on roughly 23km/l. Some only fetch 16/l because they flew instead of rode...

Am considering an offer to move out of Singapore for a year or two. Selling would be the logical choice. But i havent really decided yet, spent too much time and money on the bike to just give it up like that!
