always good to ride with at least two fingers on the front break lever so could provide sufficient immediately breaking in certain situations, tested and proven that its a very good and useful habit.

wa lao.

skimmed through a lot of the pages of this thread over much of last night and this morning. this is one long thread man.

so in view of the troubles people have been having, i think i learnt quite a lot. the discussions here have really been enlightening; now if only there was a way to search the thread better...

anyway. hopefully by this coming week i can get my tuono back on the streets again, and then i have to take the time to run in the bike.

mnphosis, want to go for run-in rides with me? one of these days i wanna do a round island, lunch-till-supper ride lar; go look for all the far-out places to look for good food, and explore all the small roads in sg that i never been too (like just only yesterday i discovered tampines ave 10, and kaki bukit viaduct)...

and so as to rack up mileage as quickly as possible, when is the next outing/ supper? really have to meet up with you guys one day. ..

Posted

sure mike1024. I too discovered the kaki bukit thing after making several mindless turns within the kallang area eventually leading me to that place.

Also, that long for running in?

the horrid position of the rs125 can kill :) nevertheless, i'd be glad to go for these running in sessions anytime so check your pm for my number.

Posted

call me mike lar. the 1024 thing i added cos mike was already taken up.

run in is 800/1600 km what, not say going to finish 800km in one day, but since have to run in at pretty low speeds, sg roads away from expressways should be a good idea. i really want to figure out the eastern side road network cos i stay in the west. the places around bedok/kallang can be quite a mess... (not so for people who stay there i guess).

if there's anything i learnt about positioning on 2 wheel vehicles, it is that you have to go for it, then within about 4 weeks of frequent use, should be able to get used to it. i guess the keyword is 'frequent', and that probably varies from person to person. i find my tuono position comfortable except for my slightly injured left knee, the bending is quite extreme.

heh. who i am trying to kid - you'd probably have more experience in this.

sorry, i meant i rode there once or twice during the running in period a few days ago just so to run in the bike. Tried to minimize riding during heavy traffic as i have yet to get used to the feel of it.

BTW, whats ur rear shock setting?

i turned it almost all the way down, making it rather stiff.

my rear shock is stock, didnt do any changes to them

if thats the case, i should take you on a little trip ard marine parade, siglap, simpang bedok, kew green, changi coastal etc. its such a beautiful place where life seems so slow. in fact, i had some of my sweetest days spent there.

my run in speed at 6000rpm in 6th gear brings me to abt 90km/h on the speedo and u r right, running in means a variety of roads with varying speeds and gear not so much on just the highest gear and clocking in the mileage.

in fact, i can't wait to hit 800km before i can drive it up to 9000rpm :)

well i did have an occasional 7000rpm though.

btw, when u get your bike, please change the gear oil within 20-30km as the 1st run, the gear is so notchy and the oil.....yeeks, sludge, black and all. shifts were so much sweeter after changing the gear oil. try maxima or motorex 75/90 as stated in the manual. it should be abt $25 i think. 1k, 2k, 3k can still afford to change until after 3k i think its once every 2oookm thereafter for optimum shifting.

see ya soon.

eyz: i thought you sold off your rs125 already? what happened to the PS2 paint scheme rs125 in your signature a while back?

or did you just get a rs250??? :lovestruck:

join us and do a tour-de-singapore run in :cheeky:

800 km not to exceed 6000 rpm. 800->1600 not to exceed 9000 rpm. after that not to exceed 11000 rpm. you mean you started whacking already?

(mnphosis) if thats the case, i should take you on a little trip ard marine parade, siglap, simpang bedok, kew green, changi coastal etc. its such a beautiful place where life seems so slow. in fact, i had some of my sweetest days spent there.

sure. sounds good. have been to changi coastal, i know a route around singapore that does not touch expressways - it's a cycling route. i never heard of kew green though. the rest would be nice to gain some familiarity with. also; we could do something like bikeshop tour. want to see that SBF favourite Sanfu or whichever that uses Snap-on tools. Race advertising works: i seem to get the impression that Snap-on produces damn good tools, though i have not seen them before.

maybe we can take turns going to diff shop and change gear oil, adjust this and that, see what kind of mechs those shops have.

(mnphosis) btw, when u get your bike, please change the gear oil within 20-30km as the 1st run, the gear is so notchy and the oil.....yeeks, sludge, black and all. shifts were so much sweeter after changing the gear oil. try maxima or motorex 75/90 as stated in the manual. it should be abt $25 i think. 1k, 2k, 3k can still afford to change until after 3k i think its once every 2oookm thereafter for optimum shifting.

this is the funny thing. i read the AF1 forum (UK aprilia forum). and they claim that the recommendation from Rotax is for a lighter weight oil. something like 18W/30 (i think, not sure). somehow, i suspect that the gear oil have to change very soon after i collect the bike too.

Posted

according to the manual, it say 75W90 gear oil. the one you are talking abt could be engine oil. but seriously, if price is not an issue, gear oil is the preferred choice. Also, gear oil's visosity and numbers are unlike the engine oil's so do not get confused between both. 75/90 might seems heavy for engine oil but its fine for gear oil.

anyway, check your manual just to be doubly sure. mine says 75/90.

when u drain your gear oil, u'll be in for a shock. its not only dirty, it looks as if mould has started forming in them in my case *laughs*

kew green area is a small place with some of the swetest bungalows ever. thats after siglap and before simpang bedok.

bike shops? why not? except that such tours usually mean moving ard in industrial estates. not much to see.

so i'd think we should be meeting up soon sometime next week huh?

And lastly, let's catch up with jie liang too since i owe him a meal.:)

and if u're going down to mah, i'll see if i can drop by as well since they owe me some small items.

See ya soon

well i think having a 250 is cheaper than a 125 in maintenace wise.... yr valve break one time already need at least 160 for a new one... 250 dun have this pro unless its like 7 to 8 yr old... i have not have a valve breakage on my 250s.. the old ride more than 2 yr and its 5+yr old when i bought it and is daily ride cos only have one bike that time... so u might have safe money and compesate in the fuel for much more hp... isn't that nice? :cheeky:

not really tat bad lah.. alex, dun scared the rest of the ppl who wants to get a rs125 leh... hehe

thou it seems like the valve is like a 'consumable' nowadays.. but out of my 3 yrs ridin the 125.. i only got 2 broken valve.. seems like there's something which is causin the frequent broken valve..

by the way, to those guys out there who are havin broken valve.. first motor managed a fabricate a unique stainless steel valve.. the stem of the valve is detachable.. the commonly broken part of the valve is the groove, where the valve cable is slotted in.. so, in the event of a broken groove, the stem can be replaced without much cost.. but so far hasn't find out the cost of the stem yet...

what alex say is 101% true ma..

the $$ spent on the 125 my last time was way to much to compare with my 250 :)

i know what you are talking about, and i am also talking about the same thing. apparently, Rotax (the co. that designs/makes our engines(not aprilia!)) recommends a low weight engine/gear oil in their service manual.

i don't remember the outcome of the discussion in AF1 forum. but i think i'd probably stick to whatever aprilia recommended, cos they are the ones warrantying the bike, not Rotax.

yeah, maybe dun go so many bike shops, but if we happen to pass by, and one of us needs to do something, perhaps we can go looksee; minor priority lar.

i read that with ducatis, if your EO is milky, it means that coolant has leaked into the EO, and is cooking in there. how does it leak? gasket seal going-going-gone...

shouldn't be for your case, right? as in, after initial change, the sight window shows clean oil, right?

yeah, let's meet up sometime once i get my bike!

so rich arr? can afford to get 3 RS125s in 3 years?

the second bike looked quite good mah. why sell?

btw, what are the major differences between y2k and replica?

and if i am not wrong, the replica is a later model than the y2k, right? how did you manage to get a y2k with so little mileage?

Posted

so i am getting the impression that aprilia riders (me inclusive) are basically one crazy, messed up bunch of people who, despite advice to the contrary, go ahead and buy a bike which can be anything from 2-10 times the price of an almost equivalent model from a competing manufacturer; then will willingly wait days, weeks, and months while their bikes are inevitably serviced (while their friends are happily riding), and again pay 2-5 times the cost for equivalent parts/ labour. and then the bike cannot go as fast as, or pick up quicker than, an NSR-SP, or a CBR150, or a KRR, or a (hehheh) TZM.

all these for the ability to look at the bike and go: "man, what a sexy bike".

ahhh. the joys of owning an aprilia.
