Right of way

Guys,

Just encountered something bad, makes me ponder: while lane changing, if you signal, means you got right of way?

I was travelling straight prior to a junction, and there was this lorry in a queue suddenly signal right. He began to move to change to the empty lane while I was just coming up. Needless to say, I flick my horn a few times, but it still hand no intention of stopping. I got pissed so I held on to the horn. Okay I was at wrong for holding the horn, but what really made me write this was that he wound down his window, stopped and blocked 2 lanes diagonally and said, "why you horn?!"

I said I was coming up. He actually said, "I signal already, that's why I have the right of way!"

I wanna hear the bros' opinion about this issue, and find out if "right of way" really exists in everyday driving/riding, especially the lorry driver's so-called right of way.

So bros, fire away, any comments are welcomed.

FARTK HIM! Knn right of way... Puah CB! Simi right of way. Knn. You tell him since got signal already and means right of way THEN TAKE OUT THE FARKING MIRROR LOR. You dun need it ma you RIGHT, ya RIGHT of way... Then smash on his mirror.

Knn please la you wanna change lane also have to have judgement. Knn you tell him do that on a TP and then tell the TP that see if he dares. 1st can charge him dangerous driving and causing danger and excessive braking of other road user. THERE IS THIS RULE! 2ndly you mention he stop in the 2 lane diagonally. So wat is he trying to prove? You ask him wait dun shift his car then you take photo. So wat kinna of driving is STOPING DIAGONALLY? Grandfathers road?

Like a wise man alway said, you only have the right of way when other people give you the right of way. But I think as a biker we are alway at a losing end. Whether the right of way does exists it really depend on the person driving or riding whether if he choose the give you your right of way, you don't really get to choose your self.....

Signal = showing your intention to move out of your original lane... doesn't mean right of way loh.

as riders, you do not have the right of way.. if you want the right of way, your bones need to be harder than the lorry and what not when you insist on your right of way..

better if you just siam him 1st, then go up next to him and F him upside down.. no point playing with your life..

Yes thank you bros, it was quite a scene. I knew I was making him look damn bad by holding my horn, and thus he tried to confront me ba. He actually asked me to go into the car park nearby and SETTLE sia. Another thing, I was pillion-ing my gf, so I get kinda worked up easily when near-accident incidents happen to me la. At that moment I wanted to laugh and say, "Eh bang you got license or not."

Really, I believe we should learn to protect ourselves not by proving that we are stronger, since we're riders and face constant danger all around us. Even falling branch from trees can be a threat to us. I didn't follow him to the car park, spoil my V-day only...

Bro bernardk, haha relax man, thanks for your enthusiasm, I'm sure you meet with such cases a lot, based on your experience ba...I'm a relatively new rider, and I guess I would prefer to keep myself out of trouble. He only left the diagonal-state while shouting to me from his window when cars behind horn. I was thinking, ultimately, I was in only 1 lane, and can easily move to the side to allow cars to pass. If he stop until like that, he was blocking 2 lanes already lor.

Somemore from driving school, isn't it vehicle moving straight and coming from right side has right of way? I was moving straight, and I was on his right lane somemore lar. If we actually collided, I think he'll be in deep shieat right?

You riding small bike huh wat bike you riding? Usually they see small bike they dun give a sh!t. If got P Plate worst. Thus work your way up to class 2 and get a TANK-cum-BIKE. If possible get the brand Boss-Hoss Bike. Hahahaha...

You got pillion no wonder but no choice only can F only wat to do. KNN next time i drive my M113 out and signal right and tell him i got right of way. Nei nei. kok driver tell ppl right of way. knn ask them take out mirror la. put for wat.

I encounter another "bad" car driver yesterday. It was 1:40am in the wee morning and was travelling on the middle lane of AYE. This freaking car keep flashing high beam at me. The thing is that, the left lane got another small cc motorcycle coming up and the right lane no cars at all. My question is, why can't he use the right lane to overtake me? btw was travelling at aroung 100+ km/h which i feel am already speeding. Any faster, I got chance to kena saman by TP (if they see me).

Luckily I have reach that age where cool heads prevail. I did not change lane though. Let him flash all he wants. In the end, He overtake me from the left and sped away. Never gave chase though as I see it is pointless and will only result burning off expensive fuel. Stupid, I thought overtaking lane is right lane? He die die muz overtake from left. I guess Singaporean juz came back from US. Hahahha.

Just something to share tat's all.

Bro practice safety first. Whatever it is, do give way to them. One way is to write a complain email to TP. I am trying to "invent" Accident Cams for bikes. So juz record and pass footage to TP. With proof, it is more difficult for them to counter your claims.

No use if accident and you win but injures sustain is life threatening or disability forever. Practice defensive riding. Its like what we learn in School, all knowledge give back to teachers. The drivers here like to signal and turn at the same time, some no signal. Only a few good ones will only signal, check and turn once clear (Usually P Platers). A cool head is needed for these type of sitution.

Yea I agree, being calm is one thing, but sometimes you're riding with your loved ones, you can't help but feel anxious about them you see. In anyways I was just left dumbfounded when he said he signal and got right of way. I didn't know to laugh or cry. I just repeated what he said, and then he jio-ed me to go inside and settle.

Yea, I'm riding a small cc bike la, so people don't give a shieat about us. Eerie or not, but a few months back at the same spot same scenario I actually encountered almost the same thing, I was going straight, this red-plated car was edging out, wanna change lane/go inside the car park. He didn't even bother to signal, I flick my horn to let him know I'm coming out.

Guess what, he waited, until last moment when I'm very very near him he suddenly chiong out. Wah I e-braked and my engine stalled. At that time I was furious, but now I've learned to face such matters with a cool head la, or ultimately we're the ones who suffer.

do whatever you want on the road when you are riding alone.. you are answerable for your own actions..

but if you are pillioning your friend, gf, or loved ones, please think twice before you act. afterall, their life is in your hands. you are liable to answer to their parents, should anything happen along the way.

and there's no right on way.. the only right of way is 6 feet under..

but really, some drivers got the mindset that bikers can kenna makan good good.

dont worry, I do the same (hold on horning) if I you. These kind of ppl need to make them feel disgrace to learn. Horn are there not for display, but to warning other and keep you away from danger. As following to carpark, there no need to be that way as there no damage occur. If i you, i will said, following with you to carpark, but wait for me to make a phone call to police 1st before proceed.

He doesn't have the right of way. You can only filter when there are no vehicles approaching. Those going straight have priority over those turning, surely he should know. But of course, since he is driving a lorry, he will think he will have the right of way no matter what. Until he hits someone that is.

For us motorcycles, insisting on the right of way often is a deathwish. Just let the bugger go happily insisting on his right of way. If he gets into an accident because of his attitude, you don't want to be the one under the lorry wheels.

If i were you and the driver ask me go inside settle, i will say no need but ask him to wait. Then take out my HP and snap shots of HIS LORRY and my BIKE. Got skid marks lagi best. Then can show that he is turning right changing lane WHILE im coming straight. He no need to argue he sure lost. BUT police wont come comfirm. So after taking photo tell him to wait there and you start calling the police. If police come LAGI BEST!. You can tell the police you are being treaten and he is being a road bully and with the photo as evidence HO SEH LIAO!....

But its still very bo hua to go against car. Just let them go la sigh. I use to have a very bad experience with a cab. i did post in the forum and now looking for the post to let you read wat happen. Same case as you.

Wah, I then don't want to spend my v-day with a black eye. Haha. Oh well, guess it was just my luck, but heng heng nothing big happened, I didn't bother to settle with him la. Just gave him a 'hitler sign' and rode off. I didn't even use the sacred finger. Let him waste petrol turn into car park luh. My gf told me she heard him saying, 'Why you cannot wait?!?!? I signal thats why I got the right of way.'

Well bros, just sharing this with you all, so I believe we should take the advices of veterans here, ride safe okay!

Same Same.. that day friday 13, at the bridge towards bugis near suntec there (right after the ECP exit links to). i saw a uncle riding S4 infront of me horn so badly at the bus on his right changing lane towards him (Bus just right beside him). The Fr**king bus driver drive like "i don't care i signal le u must slow down give way to me" this attitude while lane change. den lastly, the S4 uncle ride to the front point him finger den ride off...

Damn nowadays danger drivers...

can like dat ah, signal oready, got right of way.. if dat the case, i ride on hazzard light, more better. haha... careful of taxi n bus driver, they r very unpredictable. lorries dun say, they r dangerous. juz take xtra care on the road.
