My charging problem was finally solved. Changed the rectifier and the magnetic coil (again) today.

 

Thanks for sharing. How much are the damages?

if you're looking for something to illum the underseat compartment at night, can consider using one of these LED panels under the seat. simply stick it onto underside of the seat using 2-sided tape and run the wires for power

among the 2-sided mounting tapes, i'ld recommend this (costs about $8~8.50 ea):

it is very much stronger than the common green-n-black 2-sided tapes and holds onto virtually any surface. only setback is that it comes only in light grey colour, would be great if it is also black

Wah, CNY syndrome... Last time my car batt died on me on CNY eve 3pm when all shops closed already.

 

If you can identify to the battery issue, can solve easily by jump start and avoid towing.

Maybe u can mention some symptoms to bros here to see whether can help? Cannot even on power or cannot crank etc?

 

Possible reasons....

1. Fuse blown?

2. Batt flat?

Power leh.. how much is the light?

 

Saw at Autobacs from $10+ to $50+. For me, not much use for bright underseat light, as compared to car interior light, as small compartment and only use for the few seconds if needed. I just put a small LED torch at the manuals compartment.

If you want to illuminate exterior, no need the bulb adaptor but the LED needs to be the rubber-covered waterproof type. About $30 per metre at Sim Lim Tower.

 

But I scared to be caught by TP and spoil the bike electronics. So gave up on the idea.

If kena caught bo hua liao. Boost our economy leh. the cost is more expensive than the LED itself..

when i try electric start, it seem cannot ignite n i heard rolling under it.

Appear F1 , V belt amber light and engine oil light on dash.

just change engine oil last month on 10k service.

Apparently, the rectifier caused my magnetic coil to be burnt in the 1st instance about 1 week ago. Did not change the rectifier then as it was still charging after I changed the coil.

 

However, the charging broke down yesterday again. Coil found burnt again. The rectifier was the cause. This time around, I changed both rectifier and coil. Kudos to my mech, he waived off the all charges for the magnetic coil and only charge me for the rectifier.

 

Lesson learned: Charging voltage needs to be monitored very carefully. A drop in the charging voltage despite coil and rectifier still working may be a sign where the rectifier is failing but not total failure yet. Hence if you ignore the signs, it will likely lead to a burnt coil. If your coil is burnt, it might be prudent to change the rectifier together (unless your rectifier is 100% working), else it might lead to another burnt coil.

 

How can we know if rectifier is 100% working? Hope dun have to go thru 2nd magnetic coil burn to know rectifier is faulty.

Haha. Don't dare to trial and error.

Was hoping someone would have done all the necessary tests and positioning then can share the experience.

The Rectifier position must change for easy replacement on tour.

I'll consult my mech on next visit.

I feel the passion you guys have on silverwings, they are a thing of beauty after all. Had a go on my friends and was immediately hooked. Currently riding an Atlantic 200, sourcing for another bike. Found a 1yr 11month Silverwing at XXXXbike shop, it's going for 8k. Owner bought a car liao.. So, what do you guys think?
