Yup, i ordered b4 from Boon Siew, cost $90 buck for both side, waiting time more than 3 mths... sigh.... Understanding from one bro, when you order from Boon Siew can choose either by shipment or air.... Last time mine is took ship de.... take so long... but oso lucky juz deliver before tsunami...

ok, confirm your set's navigation firmware not compatible with MFM's map compiler; same syndrome experienced by other users too.

 

then suggest you try the Garmin-MSM map "Malsingmaps Malaysia/Singapore/Brunei NT2011.10".

there's a version specially for Nuvi 3790 (needs serial number of GPS to download).

Malsingmap NT2011.10 is include when I bought my GPS.

oh... then shouldn't go holan mah, the MSM is a lot more accurate than the NT and similar with MFM.

 

anyway, other 3790 users also have some compatibility issues when using MFM. some of them did removed the colored polygons and things seems to work out fine... can try

from what i know, the compatibility issue is due to difference in map compiler software. firmware in newer sets are not fully compatible with MFM maps which are compiled using an older version of compilers.

my nuvi 550 has no issues with MFM or MSM at all, but the newer nuvi 1460 did have a little issue with MFM with polygons (it hangs when i do long haul routing).

if the deal you got is for a brand new local warranty set and you don't mind giving up the friction mount (sold at show for $25), then price is OK.

note that 1250/1350 do not have routing function which allows you to plan/plot routes in advance. e.g. planning a route with a few waypoints.

difference is in the preloaded map...

Nuvi 550 has preloaded maps for the continental United State plus Canada and Alaska, while the Nuvi 500 has preloaded maps for the continental United State plus Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Other than that, the two are identical. The Garmin 500 series is a GPS for the car but also can be used outdoors as well. So it has all the features for a car, biking, walking, boating, spaceship, whatever form of travel you decide…ok maybe not the spaceship, they are still working on that.

JK Commercial sells the 500 preloaded with "6 Nation Map", probably the US (factory) + addon SEA countries.
