Anyone went in by Woodlands recently?

I know the coming back is easy because they have cut short the route and no more zig-zags at Malaysian Custom.

Not sure whether the going in is as smooth.

Going in is very fast these days.

I always take the self scanning lane.

self scanning... u mean the Biometric Identification of Motorbikers?

do you also have the Malaysia Automated Clearance System (MACS)?

http://www.imi.gov.my/index.php/en/pass/377-malaysia-automated-clearence-system-macs

conditions are achievable :p

Singapore Citizens daily trippers who wish to apply MACS are required to meet the terms and conditions as follows:

Must be a Singapore Citizen in possession of an international passport with minimum validity of two (2) years;

Non-listed in the Immigration Suspect List;

Has been issued with a relevant long term immigration pass (if – applicable – Category B applicants).

Number of visit per month at least 4 times and more.

Anyone interested to go in 4x a month?

Trying to fit in a trip on the East Coast probably next year...

Day 1: Kuantan

Day 2: Kota Bahru

Day 3: Kota Bahru (Sungai Kolok Day Trip)

Day 4: Genting (via R8)

Eh... Sungei Kolok seems like another Betong (cheap horny stuff...) but with occasional threat of bombings and nothing else.

Not sure wanna explore. Hmm...

In fact, why dun we consider the woodlands check point for the lobster trip? instead of hooking a big round from Tuas. There is a Shell station immediately after coming into JB, can RV there

That's why I asked about Woodlands mah.

It is also very near for me coming via TPE/SLE.

With the shorter route, we may even have time to visit some extra attractions.

We'll see how.

we are actually considering that, but jsilverwing is worried that his S4 with side panniers will have probelms passing through the "obstacle course".

any comments, since you've just used it?

totally no problems. only the biometric lane might be a little tight... but hey, you can use the normal immigration check point

Hi all,

Haven't been her for a long while. Just wanna check has any SW riders overhaul their SW before?

Was thinking of overhauling it as it is about 5 years old.

Still runs good cept that a tad noisy for my liking. And new SW is rather costly.

imo a 5 year old SW doesn't really require overhaul unless the parts inside the engine are very much worn. common considerations are:

* abuse (expedited wear-n-tear)... do you "whack" your SW regularly?

* long mileage over time (normal wear-n-tear)... my scooby is around 50+k now, probably only consider top overhaul when mileage nears 100k, baring "misfortunes"

* engine left unstarted for extended periods; bone dry parts starts to rust/corrode and may have ceased

* damage... common issues are piston head/rings, bearings, con-rods, timing chain, etc.

* material fatigue... 5 years isn't really considered old for an engine if well taken cared of

does your engine fall into any of the categories above?

the seniors have always given us this good advise, "don't try to fix it when it is not broken" :)

when you say the bike is a tad noisy, have you identified the main culprit?

generally, the more prominent noises from our SW (at idle) come from:

* the exhaust... loudest of all; could it be the muffler/silencer became less effective?

* transmission system (loudest at the spinning clutch assembly)... has it been serviced and cleaned?

* engine... any abnormal sounds such as rattling or clanging? it is normal for engine to sound slight louder than the initial years as moving parts slowly becomes "loose" due to wear-n-tear. but as long as there's no loss in power (usually due to worn piston head and/or rings) or damage, there's no need for overhaul.

* valves... it is normal to hear a distinct tic tic tic sound from the engine especially when seat is lifted. the sound is from the opening/closing of the valves.

* final drive gear assembly... if you hear the garak garak sound at idle, chances are the bearings and/or gears are worn (costs about $550 to repair).

don't think any of our kakis have done an engine overhaul yet. and don't think any of the motorshops we frequent have done an overhaul for SW yet. can't say about SWingers who don't join this thread though :p
