Rode my sw for 3days already.. It's like a sofa on wheels.. My first scooter.. Still have trouble with turns.. But will get better in time..

just don't try to ride the SW like a runner, we'll be alright.

the SW's wheelbase is probably the longest among the scooters here, so it's not going to handle like the "short" zippers. one of common mistakes is over-turning the handlebar, resulting in a handlebar-lock and then bike-drop. use a larger turning circle.

when i first bought the SW, i rode it as if its a GW... swee swee no bike drop.

then became a bit complacent after few months... bike dropped when turning at MSCP :pity:

Uncle .... my ride already confirmed ... without ABS ...

If you say must have ... then I how ?

Unless you are telling me that my SW is consider light-weight scooter.

no need to worry bro... no ABS also ok one.

in fact, over dependence on ABS may become bad cos it has limitations.

no ABS? we also go tongyum-land and back safely... no problem de

.. as I usually ride at 70km/h only .....

Ride at 70km/h will give poor fuel economy as it has not reached highest "gear". 5.5krpm at 90-100km/h is best. If you join trips on NSHW, need to hit 120km/h, else hard for the pack.

guys, our SW bros in US needs some help...

anyone knows how to switch the SW's meter calibration from km/h to miles/h?

One of the posters here bought a SW from Canada & imported it here to the States. Canada uses Kilometers, Kp/h, etc, while the US uses Miles. His SW Meter display shows Km for Total and Trip(s) miles and the the speedo shows Km/h as the primary indications and Mph below that.

So the problem is; How can we get the Meter Panel Circuit Board to change from Km's to Miles?

I have a non-functioning Meter Panel circuit board whick I have thoroughly inspected for secret switches, jumper wires, etc. and have found nothing. The Honda part number for both the metric & miles versions of the Meter Panel are both the same. And if you play with the LCD odometer display & catch it in just the right light you can see that both Km's & Miles are available for display.

My bike's illness not getting better. Probably aggravated during last high speed trip.

Was supposed to repair at ACM previously but cancelled becos I thought can wait till Aug 12.

The sound didn't go away so really need to replace the drive shaft liao. Probably can lasts 1 more month.

Did some checks and... the shaft has a different part number to older FJS. *1 other shaft inside is also different number. The rest of transmission parts (seals & bearings, etc) are similar to FJS.

Is that the reason why the SW-T managed same speed and rpm yet with lighter rollers?

Anyway, all shops no have, including Boon Siew.

So, made an order at BS and hope they fly the parts in quick.

For now, no long trips.

I think it's software coded in the EEPROM bah. No mention in manual.

This final gear shaft also different number.

My problem is the Drive Shaft (16T), where the clutch assembly spins on.

ic, I noticed it has some blue colouration towards the end where we secure the 23mm nut to hold the clutch assembly. I think when we dismantle to clean the clutch, need to make sure to grease the ball bearings at the inside, which is hard to reach and where the bluing occurs. Usually only grease the roller bearings on the edge as it's easier to reach.

today while riding... along PIE from Jurong towards Changi

action 1: saw 1 rider fell right in front of me (shortly after Bt Timah flyover)

rider on smallish bike (looks like a pulsar) fishtail fishtail then crashed onto wet tarmac. we were going at around 30+~40km/h nia but guess he squeezed his brakes too hard trying to avoid running into the car which stopped abruptly in front. heng i managed to stop in time without becoming the 2nd victim. after stopping, i was very worried about the car behind, whether it's driver is alert enough not to run over both of us.

lucky thing is, the indian rider was quite alert to push off his bike as he falls. i used my bike (with hazard lights on) to help direct traffic away from the hot spot while keeping an eye on any kayu driver who may slam right into us. rider picked himself up after a while (recovering from shock ba) and signalled to me he's ok. we then made our way to the road shoulder; he pushed his bike, i rode on mine while signalling the other motorists to give way. traffic was jam packed and i guessed there's probably another accident in front. after rider checked himself for injuries and said ok, i rode off le.

action 2: 1 bike crashed into another (near lornie exit ba)

my guess was right, there's indeed another accident in front but this time involving 2 bikes. my first reaction upon sighting was "wah!"... 1 bike was lying on the ground between lanes 1 and 2 while another lying on top of it. hmmm... can only think of 1st bike skidded/fell while lane splitting, bike behind couldn't stop in time thus "climbing" onto it. saw only 1 rider nearby so maybe the others already taken away by ambulance ba... hope everyone's ok.

my after-thoughts...

* don't tailgate cars, especially not right behind them

* don't tailgate bikes while "lane splitting" (unfortunately, many riders do that)

* practice safe speed and safe distance, especially when floor is wet

* hmmm... will ABS kick in at low speeds like 30+km/h? hmmm... maybe not

ride safe... for our loved ones if not for ourselves

A lot more bike-related accidents probably go by each day w/o being reported or to our knowledge. It's a risk we take. As riders, we can only:

- maintain our bikes well;

- maintain our bodies and minds well;

- ride defensively and when conditions are right;

- insure adequately.

If something untold happens, we would have done our best then.

Posted (edited)

talking about insure adequately, anyone also interested to buy the $99 budget travel insurance (see below)?

if got more kaki's, we can invite Jamerson to meet us at CB Club during one of the meetups to settle the paperwork/payment instead of us going down to his office.

tentative date: 7-June-2012

(next Thurs meetup)

buying:

1. scoobydoo (renewing)

2. SW9000 (renewing)

3.

4.

5.

6.

7.

ps: we do not earn any commission thru this arrangement, its only a flavour favour

in case you're wondering if this plan covers motorcycling, yes it does... and proven; we know of kakis who have utilised the policy.

most annual travel insurances plans we know are a lot more expensive. e.g. NTUC Income's travel insurance annual premium (classic plan, individual, asia) costs $260. previously, they required premium top-up of 20% to include motorcycling activities but not mentioned in recent web quotes except in their terms & conditions.

http://www.income.com.sg/insurance/Travel/premium.asp

para 4 "General exclusions"

section k: an accident while you are driving or riding on a motor race track;

grey area... buyers assume the plan covers motorcycling as long as we're not riding on a race track. but is that correct?

a kaki just asked me about where to buy the $99 annual travel insurance...

decided to post here so that other could also benefit

Annual Budget Travel Insurance fr $99 a year

can also call fellow SWinger Jamerson Lee directly at 9682-9392 to settle the paperwork and payment.

ride safe people

The budget travel insurance is 30-day per trip instead of the standard 90-day. Think pretty suitable for most users. You arranging tonight?

Posted (edited)

30 days limit per trip is more than sufficient le... how many of us can go for >30 days trips? bike tourings are unlikely to cross that no. per trip :p

most bosses may tell us to extend our travelling perpetually; business trips covered by company's insurance.

not tonight, need to gather names before inviting Jamerson down...

you interested? pls put name down lo :)

added:

i've spoken to Jamerson but he's not available tonight, tentative date for his visit is 7-June-2012 next Thurs.

he mentioned that if our turnout is good, he can do a presentation to tell us what're the differences between this budget plan and the normal plans, and other details about the plan.
