So far cheapest for me have been Chartis. Comprehensive at 600+.

my chartis comprehensive cost $414.70 ... may not be cheapest but heard about NTUC's claim process, dun like the workshop "bidding" system they use.

DA quote is about $50 cheaper.

imo, many riders do not know exactly what their motorcycle insurance cover and not cover. my recommendation is to check it out with your insurer...

do you know that your standard motorcycle insurance do not cover your (rider) injuries and medical expenses in an accident?

please consult your advisor/agent for more info and arrange for suitable "protection". although everyone's coverage needs are different, protection should at least cover Personal Accident (PA) and Hospitalisation.

p/s: i'm not insurance agent :p

If im not wrong, if bike lost in m'sia, they only pay 50% of mkt value.

NTUC covers

An excess of an amount equal to 50% of the market value of your vehicle at the time of loss subject to maximum of S$2,500 if your vehicle is stolen outside of Singapore

Or I should put it this way...people like me matured enough not to warrant any loading from insurance company got a quote from DA and etc......

I like NTUC as I always change bikes on a per year basis, the refunding is quite straight forward. Now not so much anymore. Sport bikes...Hmm....I told my friend maybe till I am 40 then 重出江湖 buy supersport or superbike. Maybe now on my list wanna to get the RS250 or PGM4, bikes which I always wanted when I was younger but no money to get during that time.

2013 ZX10R so sweet and 2012 GSXR1000. I am still quite savvy on the latest development in the sport bike world. The acceleration is really brutal and that only limitation is your right hand. Till date I only have managed 25X kph on my R6. Even my friend R1 he dont dare to go beyond 280kph.

During my twenties, every month track and tour is a must...A year change 4 set of tires...Planet motors likes me so much during the golden era...Now have to wait for my 2 little devils to grow up a bit, before I can get long term visit pass....

It turns out, DA is not always the cheapest. Getting a GSXR750K7 to practice good riding and do some tuning. NTUC cheaper by $80 for 3P. But now they are very selective in quoting. If you are getting a resale from bike shop, they will want you to buy from the shop if they had quoted. Sort of some reseller protection thingy.

How can I check what's the best way to check the current vehicle registration number if I were to register now?

Eg, vehicle bidding shows FBG5274H as the 1st available number for bidding. Does it mean the current number will be at least this, or is this a forward number? @Atlantic 200?

hachi ... you own a bike shop ah ? that's why change bike no need money.

Am still hoping to complete the COE before changing ...

Who says no need money. Out of my 15 or 16 bikes I brought, I have not brought one on installments...

My upbringing is anything you cant buy in cash, you cant afford, period...Of course except house which will appreciated..

I change bike uses cold hard cash that why can afford to change so many bikes...If installments with shop how to change???

Those without money can only go to shop and let them chop, of course not those who invest their money but do have the capacity to cash bikes out..

I have friend brought a 04 Busa for 29k plus installments cos he no money and over trade his R1...Even his bike due for scrape, he will be still paying for his installments....That one really champion.

I also got friend can easily cash any super bikes you can think off but pay choose to pay by installments cos his money locked in some stocks.

Yes, transferring tomorrow. But I'm not the fast-and-furious type, and most probably will be heavily under-utilised as SW will still be my daily commute and tour (if any). Just want to do it before I cannot do side-kick :cheeky:

Go to OneMotoring, from the left panel, under LTA eServices (Non-Login), look for "Enquire Vehicle Number Allocation Pool".

Based on the latest inquiry, the result show:

Range Of Vehicle No.: FBG4251E to FBG4560M (Both Vehicle No. Inclusive)

I guess DA quotes higher for sportsbike. Was put on hold for 15mins. CS asked me to choose GSR750 since don't have GSXR750. Called again and the 2nd CS asked me to email the model to check but no reply yet. You can also try Liberty. Ban Hock Hin 62816520 sells. Only thing lousy is this traditional agent requires you to go onsite and pay.

Thanks, when don't bid usually end up with 4s. Have an affinity to them :)

But to place the bid number onto a registered bike need to pay around $1k right ?

$300 to replace an existing number with a bid number if don't like the system generated number. Else $1300 if use a retained number to replace an existing number. If use retained number for new bike, pay $1300 first and later claim back $1200 when register the new bike.

How come you lost money in the process???

In 2005 I brought my 02F4I at $5500 and sold off 30 months later at $5000.

In 2009 I paid $1000 for a 03 CBR 150 sold off 3 weeks later at $1700.

In 2008 I brought 05R6 at $8200 after 19 months sold off $8200.

In 2003 I brought my Ver S at $3000 sold off 24 months later at $3800.

Some of the examples if you got cold hard cash you can buy bike at market value or even lower than market value..

In fact if I add together all the bikes I brought and sold off, I made some profit...hahhahah But maintenance regime quite tight so not really earn..

3-5 years bikes have the best value, when I brought my 05R6, the 08R6 cost 25k, so if I pay 8k for a 05R6, will I lost 76% of the fun? No right...In fact if I crashed it, and even write off, I dont own money. If you want the latest model then you got to pay...6 months bonus I also want, I am just another guy who live within his own means.

Of course if I want a latest model I can down pay and get it and pay for 3-5 years, just that I choose not to..Cos I dont like interests to erode my saving.

There's this declared usage clause that you need to be careful. Based on their T&C, there are 3 categories:

1. private use

for private or leisure use only. You do not use your motorcycle to commute to or from work or for any business visits or business appointments but you may use your motorcycle to send your children to school or for any other daily routine which is not work related.

2. private use + commuting to work

for private or leisure use and commute to or from work. You do not use your motorcycle for any business visits or business appointments but you may use your motorcycle during lunch time to meet with business colleagues.

3. private + business use

in addition to the uses permitted under private use + commuting to work, you also use your motorcycle for and during the course of your work (excluding carrying or delivery of goods and/or food for payment).

As part of their policy, they will allow you to use your motorcycle outside of your declared usage up to a maximum of 5 times per year. The only condition is that you must inform them by phone or email at CarUsage@DirectAsia.com or in writing prior to that other usage occurring.

The difference is about $50 each. They grey area is in item 2 and 3. If you choose item 2, you can't use your bike to go attend meetings (provided you've informed them and up to 5 times per year), as it only covers you when you go lunch. So when there's a claim, they may use that against you and end up you cannot claim. Please check which one you've selected. If you've selected 2, then the difference with Chartis will be zero.

there's a page on insurance at my noteboard, not perfect but probably useful... can take a peek :p

http://scoobydooby-doo.blogspot.sg/p/insurance-matters.html

imo, we should also consider factors other than price...

i'ld prefer to pay a little more to enjoy the benefit of being able to do the repairs at our choice workshop rather than having to use the assigned workshop.

i've heard that some insurers use the "bidding" system, where workshops make bids for the repair job. needless to guess, workshop with lowest bid gets the deal... and our bike repaired under "cut-cost" scheme in order to keep within budget and/or maximise margin :pity:

True. make sense. but something you also need to consider or assess the risk of self-claim.

i believe that say choosing the repair shop by insurance company is applicable for comprehensive?

if for third party claim then who care.. haha..

Fire and Theft no need to repair liao..

So the main concern is still comprehensive.

I don't mind paying a small premium if the difference is not huge.. taking for my case now..

NTUC quoted me 1k for comprehensive. Chartis 540 (done through bike shop. saw the renewal notice only 500. hence shop charges 40 dollars more for administrative charges and GST) DA quoted 499..

i think Chartis excess is 500. while DA is 600. Ntuc excess is 500 too..

For my case i will most probably not go for NTUC is because the premium is way too high... Though the hassle free for refund upon termination.. where as chartis there is a minimum sum.. Think if you left 1 or 2 months no refund will be return..
