Just did a coolent change yesterday on my an400k3, new engine oil and filter. Bought a spare oem filter. questions..

1. THe manual ask to soak the air filter in oil. Can this be the used engine oil when we do the oil change? Roughly how many km can the air filter tahan before must clean.

2. The gear oil, the mech say only change with belt. My bike is 8000km mileage since new (5 years, amazing I know), i suspect gear oil not change before. Need I be worried? Just wait for belt change? Mech said alot of work to change gear without changing the belt.

3. Manual said 5000km to do valve clearance. A bit crazy. What is the realistic? ALso, any symptoms if valve out of sync..

Thanks

Bigcow.... can you share your comments on Burgmen vs a SW400? Which is more a more fuss-free and reliable ride?

Burgman -

1. comfort,

2. low rider (very relax)

3. big squarish under seat space

4. long wheel base. thus very stable even on high speeds

5. but very likely eats engine oil (very common for all burgmans)

Silverwing -

1. pls get only the Euro 400 -

2. not as comfortable as the Burgmans

2. under seat space odd shape

3. front suspension too soft (can mod or change to Hyperpro springs)

4. rear suspension wears quite fast if u always pillion

5. coil might fry. common for all Hondas. SO, use good engine oil. dun be too thrifty.

6. but very reliable engine. Drag it all the way.

Japanese scoots are the most reliable.

get the Silverwing Euro 400 to have the least worries.

get the burgman if u able to control yourself.

never get the Yamaha Grand Majesty 400 as parts are scared.

bigcow, i seem to feel a slight wobble when moving off from stationary.. when i get up to speed above 30km/h, the wobble dun seem to be present anymore... When i reverse to park the bike, there is a squeek sound coming from somewhere..

Any advice/recommendation to start my troubleshooting?

control yourself meaning not to do too much of high RPMs. burgmans are just cruisers. burgmans engine well know to makan engine oil. long distance even to thailand also not a prob. but remember to check your engine oil very regularly. very likely need to constant top up engine oil.

ever got to know a burgman 400 which makan 1 liter of engine oil after 2 weeks of servicing.

wan to do touring with a peace of mind, go for the dual parallel twin cylinder Silverwing Euro 400.

i have to see your bike to understand better. best is to bring down to Kallang Cycle look for Ah Choong. he has done countless burgmans.

I've sent the scoot to be seen.. apparently the left disc brake binds to the left rotor, thus causing the funny sound.. it also made my right brake lever less useful...

until now, i only manage to get 13+km/l.... is this too low for a 650?

Thanks big cow. Very informative!

visited ah Chong this morn... he solved my low fc already. Was due to my front left brake binding.

Juz set up my alarm as well.. did you do remote start on ur previous burgman?

no one ever did in Singapore. If your bike is a FI bike, try not to meddle with the electronics.

moreover Burgman parts dun come cheap and its never in stock.
