Hi guys, anyone know roughly how much it will cost me to overhaul my spark, the con rod sounds like its gonna break.

in singapore about 400-500 plus and Malaysia about 200-300.that just for con rod and bearing only. if there are other things like piston and block, clutch plate, timing chain etc, it will be much more expensive. do your research well on which shop to go. spend a little more on better shop rather then having to correct the mistake later. you be surprise that a lot of mechanic does not have the proper knowledge to do a good job.

it seem spark 135 have a con rod bearing problem. it can start making noises from around 50,000km. the new Jupiter MX have a slightly wider con rod bearing just like FZ150i.

any bro here knows how much it cost to change the rear brake pump of a x1r in singapore, thanks

my rear brake tends to auto grip the disc by itself after moving off, think the brake pump is faulty.

wonder how much cheaper in JB

i not too sure about the rear. for my spark, the front brake master cylinder assembly or what you call "brake pump" is $30 locally and RM35 in Malaysia as a guide. for your case, it might be the brake caliper piston jam. better to do a full brake job for safety.

be aware that many mechanic does not know the proper way to service brake. it best you understand how it is done correctly first before you go down. ask the mechanic how is he going to do it before committing your bike to him. i have seen a few mechanic doing it the wrong way.

when i just got my bike and new to everything, one local bike shop mechanic told me to spray WD40 into the "brake pump" area weekly to keep it healthy. following his advice for about a year, the "brake pump" seized. after understanding how the assembly is like, i realize that the WD40 actually does nothing but swell up the rubber seal inside the "brake pump". lesson learned.

brought my bike to a nearby workshop to get a quote

was quoted $80 - $90 including installation for a new rear brake master pump

he offered to try to repair the pump with no parts change for $50 plus

any bro got experience with the ah boy shop in JB which is very near to customs, cause i dont know how to go to AH GUA lane in JB

Use WD-40 to get out seized screws and for cleaning only. Never for lubing and whatnot.

Last time I had hydraulic problems I went to a couple of shops and learnt many theories. Some of which does not make sense at least to me. But what do I know? I am not an automotive mechanic. Finally settled at a shop but it did not solved the problem. Went home and spent a few hours and managed to solve the problem on my own. I would not suggest doing so unless you know what you are doing.

The ah boy shop you talking about is the old one. The one at ah gua lane is merely an extension of that. Well to me at least. I do not know of their quality as its been years since I last went there.

i understand what you mean hence we do need to understand the product more before making decision. let look at the SDS of WD40.

Aliphatic Hydrocarbon 45-50% (Function as a solvent and carrier)

Petroleum Base Oil

LVP Aliphatic Hydrocarbon 12-18% (Function as a solvent and carrier)

Carbon Dioxide 2-3% (Propellant)

Surfactant

Non-Hazardous Ingredients

as we can see from the ingredient, WD40 IS a lubricant although a very light one and it does have anti-corrosion as confirmed by WD40 company. as for why it failed for my application is because the actual piston and spring of brake master cylinder assembly is sealed hence the WD40 will never be able to reach it. also, the seal is rubber type and some type of rubber material does not go well with petroleum product and in my case, it swelled up.

Any recommendations on chain degreasers to wash the chain and sprocket?

No WD40, as the chain will koyak. :(

if u r using normal chain like the original chain that come with your bike, WD40 is fine. If u r using o ring chain maybe can try kerosene. That what most bike manual recommend.

Very informative. But for a layman like me I would not use it as a lubricant unless no choice for that moment. Still it will be used for only that short moment. Thank you for the information professor.

Ain't it better to ask your bike shop?

the Mech knows your bike better than online forumers.

Recently changed my CDI, and this red temperature light keeps popping up ever so often. No issues with the bike.

Does spark need coolant or sth? I've seen a white holder on the right side with water like substance. Does this needs to

topped up? Someone kindly advice.

try changing back to the old CDI and see if the problem still persist. most of the time it is due to the TPS or thermo sensor.

spark does have a cooling system. if it is running low, chance are you are using it for too long as the reservoir coolant doesn't really drop that much. the manual recommend changing it every 2 years IIRC. you can try DIY coolant change. that the first DIY job i did for my spark:)
