Actually, regarding the Windshield thing, I was asking the 2 Xciting Sweepers during my KL trip. They told me actually for long distance, they adjusted their windshield to be lower, so that there would be less drag.

But normal town riding, they adjust it higher to have lesser windblast.... I was like ??? Huh???

I guess its really up to individual preferences.

For me, my normal seating position, the helmet buffet is ok. But when I sit up straight, then yes, my helmet does get unsettled, but it's still tolerable for me. Then again, I'm not going fast, say 100-120kph (60-75mph thereabouts).

Doremi, I don't know how does the windshild of the MyRoad works, but on the DT it throws the air straight into your helmet, it depends on how tall you are so in my case being in the middle of the scale I get the worst from both worlds :). But you are right I can feel a difference between my two helmets.

Myroad cannot go 180kph and above so there is no need for tall wind shield. Crusing speed is 140kph, stock windshield is sufficient.

During high speed travelling, the type of helmet you used matters alot.

I have 2 helmets. One shoei flip up. Another is Arai full face. Shoei flip up is heavy and while arai is light. I have another street bike that doesnt provide any wind protection to me i.e. mini windshield. When i wore the shoei and ride the street bike, on NSHW, i can barely hold 170kph. However on the arai that is light and fit my head snugly, i can go 200kph without difficulties at all.

Of course good windshield matters alot too. Thats why most gold winger riders normally wear open face helmet.

Btw the fastest speed i have done is 285kph. On kawasaki concours.

To Juanpauk: How do you find the seat comfort of the DownTown?? Ever rode for about 1.5hrs without stopping?? Haha.

I realised during my trip to Msia, the seat really isn't great at all for comfort. I had to fidget all the way till the next rest stop. Then again, I have problems with tight/ restricted seating posture for long durations (more than 1hr).... So yeah. I Gotta stretch out or move about, or else my body will start to have cramps, aches, stiffness, etc.... Hehe

I've rode for 2 hours non stop from Dover to London that is the max I've done, I think I would be able to do 2 - 3 hours non stop but it has to be the only trip of the day, if I have t oride longer I tend to stop ever 1 to 1.5 hours with these intervals I can ride the whole day if I wanted to :).

For my height the sitting position is great, I had a smaller scooter so moving to the DT was a significant upgrade in all areas.

I have invested on a couple of bluetooth intercoms as I always do my long trips with my wife, it makes the rides feel a lot shorter and less tiring. Also I try to relax myself and enjoy the ride :), we play a bit of music here and there.

Cannot wait for the Summer :)

Haha. That's great.

Yeap, for the 3.5hrs trip from here to KL, we had breaks every 1hr or so. Cannot tahan straight for more than 1.5hrs even though the fuel range is able to go more than 200km.

To Juanpauk: What top box and the capacity of it are you using if any??

There again, the destination is short. Thats why the convoy is capable to stop at every 1 hr (100km or so). If the destination is heading to thailand hatyai 1000km away, the convoy cannot afford to stop every 100km. A min of 10 stops will waste alot of time. Most convoy will ride at least 150-200km before stopping for short rest.

On a bigger cc bikes, every 1 hr (100km) stop is way to tiring and waste of time. Might as well take coach or plane to destination.

Haha! You're wrong!! This group that went, the leader purposely wanted more rest stops. So yeah. Plus we were relax relax, check in time at 4pm, we arrived at 3:15pm with time to spare somemore....

So no point rushing.

OMG. I wondered what kind of education you kids went through nowadays. Dont be clown and stab your own feet with your frog mind comment again.

Like i stress very clearly in my last post. Please read with frog eyes properly. The leader purposely wanted more rest stops because the DESTINATION IS NEAR. He can afford too. There is ample time since just need to clear 400km within a day. KL is just a stone throw. I leave singapore at 10am, rest every 50km. I still reach by night fall.

Why dont you start being a smarter person like you actually look and ask this 'Leader' if they are going to thailand, do they stop every 1 hr?

Last for your information, thai border doesnt operate 24hrs.

Yes. In fact, those who go Thailand usually leave pre-dawn. The Thai border closes at mn (midnight) and opens around 6am isn't it?? [sorry I don't go Thailand, so pls correct the opening hrs here].

One of the main purpose of touring is to not rush. We could have jolly well had one stop midway, which is our lunch break also, then go straight to KL. But nope. The leader wanted us to have enough rest and ensure all bikes had enough petrol in them too.

I'm sure the trip to Phuket which they're organizing will have stops 1.5hrs between (every 150-200km).

Perhaps to Doremi, with all your experience, you're in a league different from us. No point talking to me about all these "long distance" trips aye??

Each riding group I suppose, have different itenaries altogether with regards to the purpose of the trip, number of stops on the way (Be it near or far), etc. Group A is different from Group B. In this case, our group A, different from your Group B.

Oh. And just to let you know, I don't study motorbike tours in school. So sorry about that.

I give up. Enjoy your stay. You already buang once as a P Plater. Dont buang when you ride bigger cc bikes. Damages is even more.

You can have your apology back. Personally i dont find your apology sincere at all. Dont say sorry when you dont meant it. Its a very disturbing and disgusting behavior.

Hi Sir!

My apologies for using the wrong words. Haha. My English not say very the good one. I meant to give it as an advice and not warning. Thanks for the reminder.

Anyways, I hope my last posting on tips for newbie riders to Msia is acceptable. There will always be new riders in Singapore who want to go Msia.

And as for people like you who take small bikes and travel all the way to even Thailand, I salute you. I would never even dare to think about that. Haha.

With your experience and all, it'll be even better for me to learn from other's experience and apply it to my daily riding.

Cya soon!!

Posted

It's not that I refuse to learn. But it'll be years away (I would think), that I'll have my next "long distance" trip up to Msia or elsewhere in the world (could be USA, Europe, etc).

So till then, I shall gain experience on local roads, and hear the experience of other riders (with regards to local riding).

What you're saying now (including my dad's experience), are just words to me. It doesn't mean anything to me. So yeah.

I hope you'll understand. Think back to the day when you first got your license (or rather when you first started off riding, cos some people have their license, but aren't riding).

If my apologies to you are just words, so be it. But sincerely, if my words haven't been intelligent (and I don't expect them to be since I lack experience), I'm sorry for neglecting what you've gone through all the years.

That's where I think you might be WRONG. Motorspoerts plan lots of stops to cater fro Grand Dink 2Bs that do not have long tank ranges.

No experienced tourer would want hourly stops. It is tiring and breaks your momentum.

I know that on longer trips, stops tend to be fewer and far between, but again, it all depends on the group that's going isn't it??

Anyways this recent KL trip I went wasn't organized by MotorSports, so yeah.

Good good. Kappa 46L top box =D

When I got my DT, it only came with a Shad SH40i top box. Thereafter, I changed to the SH45i. Then I realised that a fellow DT125i got a Kappa 46L top box from the dealer as standard. My face turned blue with frustration I tell you.

Haha.

Anyways, my "dream box" is the Kappa K53, but I think that's ridiculously huge. Haha. More for larger maxi-scooters such as the SilverWing and Burgman I guess (from the product pictures). DT or similar sized scooters at most 49L big enough already.
