Paraotae: How is your Kymco experience so far from day till now? Is it reliable? only thing that pulled back is that fuel economy. else everything should be ok.

Me Riding Kymco Downtown 300i since Aug 2011. Current Mileage 20,000km

Mine i think it's a lemon. 25km/L constant. Normal riding for past 1 year. Consistent 25km/L all the time. Others getting 27km/L-30km/L

Pro:

Engine I feel it's very good. Full throttle most times up north. Engine still running fine, maybe i use good oil too.

Cornering very stable, can grind plastic and exhaust. Only on uneven road can feel the rear flexing while cornering.

Easy to squeeze through traffic due to short steering.

Power - just enough.

Like the under seat storage, although the front is irregular, i use as a tool box bay. locks, chains, umbrella and etc.

Cons:

Rear hub oil need to change oil at 5000km- if don't change till 10,000km will turn greyish. (As compared to Piaggio at 10,000km)

Steering cone will auto-center (don't know how to describe) before 10,000km - i feel its a bit too soon.

Rear brake pads need to change at 8000km (so far change 2nd set rear) Front still thick thick.

Tiny amount of oil started to leak from below water pump area. There's a tiny orifice in the casing, maybe for overflow. I see some of the same scoot have this symptoms. No biggie since it's just a wet patch, not dripping and the oil level is still the same at 4700km after the last oil change.

Cannot stretch legs.

If you are talking about engine reliability, for me so far 20,000km still swee swee.

Other parts other than engine, still manageable. eg. steering cone. i just loosen it bit by bit until need replacement. So far so good.

No major problems yet.

Only disappointed with the fuel consumption. Old model before mine (pre 2011) can do at least 30km/L :(

*Info are base on my riding style and personal experience. Different people have different results.

To me, riding a Kymco is like you are getting what you paid for.

I am still very impress with the engine cause it didn't explode lol!

The new ADIVA AD3 300cc is using this engine. So i guess this should mean it's reliable enough .

Since the engine is good, I guess the rest of the things are secondary. Just wondering if you get 25km/l then if I get Xciting 400i, the fuel consumption will be around 22 to 23km/l? If that's the case, I have to pump petrol every now and then.

I am currently riding Yamaha YZFR15, one fuel tank can travel at least 500km. Just afraid I will not get used to the new Xciting...

what are your views since you are an expert here.. :)

Firstly no expert here :p

We learn from each other.

Wow! 500Km is incredible! Can go touring liao. Ya, 250km@10liters for me is quite siong (Top up every week) considering my commute to work is near.

Up north will really feel the pressure when I have to top up whenever I can. Especially travelling in a convoy, have to wait. So if no need to pump can save a lot of hassel. Got once wanted to pump later when near custom but my range short of 50km. Haiz if got bigger tank can save the hassle of waiting and queueing.

Suddenly feel like driving a car if the bike can only travel 20++km... you have any plans to buy Xciting 400i?? haha... but the looks of the bike really stunning and attractive...

How would you know if the bike looks stunning or not in real life? Haha.

Wait for the 27th of Jan. It'll be on display at Scape, Orchard.

WTF.... Forget it lah. MotorSports not interested in doing bundle deals de. Continue riding your R15. Frankly, there's nothing special in the power of Xciting 400Ri as 36bhp is really the norm lor for 400cc maxi-scooter class. Expect 21-23km/L, which is also the norm. If OTR here, owners of the Xciting 400Ri are getting 19km/L, then ho seh liao (which isn't impossible considering DT200i/ DT300i have some riders here getting below anticipated fuel consumption).

Well, it's about setting your expectations. With Kymco and with such sporty looks, your expectations would probably be much higher. I don't want to be disappointed, so my next scoot will be a Jap scoot.

Which Japanese scooter you planning to get? Actually if anything beyond 25km/l, I don't feel like buying already. Have to pump petrol every 200km or so. Don't have the habit of going petrol kiosk so frequently.

Looks like Honda Forza NSS300 is the scooter that is quite good. Just not sure when is it coming to Singapore. Anyone Any ideas??

How's your new ride? :D

Now my mileage about 20,000km.

Just took out to change back to my original roller as Dr Pulley sliding pieces (16g) seems to be revving higher lately. Good pickup but i'm more into efficiency :p

I inspect the belt and there are signs of crack already. Motorsports says can last 30,000km to 40,000km depending on use. If drag alot then recommend to change at 30,000km. Owner's manual recommend to change at 20,000km though. Belt so ex, i may wait until 30,000km. If belt snap overseas then it's not wise. Then again, motorsports's alwyas got DT going up north and thailand so thier estimate should be quite safe.

Belt i not sure the price.

Roller at $5/pc

U-shoe at $5/pc

ProFatSir, how's your fuel consumption like?

My dt300i belong to shunoski.

Current mileage is 29k km.

My fc for the 1st tank.27km/L,Ron 98 esso,malossi eo,iridium plug,stock,rider 90kg,pillion 60kg,load 10kg,80%small road,20%high way. Not bad thou for the load.

Belt is seriously over price($269),I checked online and it's also about USD$200 exc shipping.

other maxi scooter also not that expensive.I'm wondering if other scooter belting can fit.

Call in and MS(ah lau) told me belt change is at 35k km interval.

So agag for full service is

Belt-$269

Roller-$40(8pcs)

U shoe-$20(4pcs)

Labour-$30

+ the rest of other needed to change

Eo,oil filter,gear oil,plug,air filter etc

Easily hit $500 for a full service.

I need to do the full service soon as got the plan to go for west Malaysia loop ride next year.

That's very good fuel consumption you've got there. I only manage 25km/L constantly. I'm 80kg load about 5kg pillion weekend 70kg. 80city20expressway.

When i ask them wah belt so ex, they say belt kevlar can last longer like 30,000km-40,000km.

Then i say piaggio beltr normal can last ~15,000km and cost from $55 to $120.

They say other belt shorter and not lasting.

After i buy see owner's manual says replacement recommended at 20,000km, I "PENGZ".

So i ask them, manual says 20,000km leh.

They say the belt can last longer than what owner's manual says. They say tried and tested liao.

I was like ya,right....

In the beginning when they say belt can last long but more ex and so i did some calculation.

eg. (Piaggio scooter) Belt if cost $100 (15,000km) + roller $20 + u-shoe $10 + labour $30 = $160 X 2 = $320.

eg Kymco belt $269(If use to 30,000km)+roller $40+u-shoe $20+Labour $30 = $359.

Difference of $39 compare to my ex piaggio. So roughly about the same "BUT" If i change the belt at 20,000km then the story change liao.

If i want to stretch normal Piaggio belt to 18,000km or more, i believe i can as i have tried 18,000km before. Due to road worthiness and easier calulation of service interval, i stick to 15,000km.

I service myself so i cut down on labour. Dont know to bring to shop do or not since save only $30 and hands black black and sweat and run here and there LOL! Engine oil, oil filter, roller and belt still manageable but come to steering cone and other stuff have to bring to shop.

Wanna try DT125i Belt?? I'm not sure if DT200i using same belt as DT300i though.

But DT125i belt $120, change within 15k km. The same Ah Lau no confidence on the belt exceeding 15k km. And he's true. I changed at 13,500km, the belt already showing signs of tear liao. Well, at least you know when your belt will go - When your engine can start, but you throttle and nothing happens. Haha.

$120 ai mai??

ps: Anyways, DT125i usually at 6000rpm and up all the time (for me I max rev till 10,000rpm on expressway also). So obviously, the belt wouldn't last long luh, no matter what material. Haha.

If 2x ($120+$60labour) already $300 for under 30k km might as well change the back the same belt can use until 30k km

actually from my past experince on PIaggio...belt will not snap just like that...... on wearing out you ill feel higher RPM to move off....higher rpm to maintian spped.... it is like the cluth no engaging fully.... no engineer worth his salt will design and allow belt to snap off just like that.....imagine the amount of internal damage done if it does

A friend of mine rode a Vespa GT200 and suddenly the scoot jammed to a stop while on PIE expressway. Had to drag the bike across the expressway as the scoot is on the 2nd lane (1st lane is the extreme right lane). Later brought to bike shop and found the belt jammed in the internal as what the bike shop told my friend. As I am not the one to witness, I do not know how it look like.

My guess is that the belt may not just snap suddenly but may be weaken cause by stripping and ultimately bursting under high speed and friction.

Posted

Oh ya, on a side note I forgot to mention. This Vespa GT200 friend of mine know nuts about service and just ride only. I ask her when you last service your scoot, she says she don't know ha ha. I guess she just ride only, plus she ride fast as I happened to see her once at traffic lights and zoom off. So my guess is that the belt worn symptoms may already be there to warn her but can't tell.

Wow! It is indeed more costly than the usual scoots for servicing.

Yup.but if the belting system can last 30k km, still consider ok.

Apparently X10 125 is going for $14K OTR w/o insurance.

Then I'm looking forward to their pricing. If I'm not wrong, ADH is now promoting the XEVO 125??

X10 125 price is likely to be $10k OTR incld insurance.

X10 350 (330cc) is likely to be $14k OTR incld insurance.

(*Above prices are just speculative prices).
