I heard that Kymco is marginally more exp compared to SYM when buying brand new. But when it comes to spares the price difference is more significant. Is this accurate ? Eg a spare part on SYM costing $100 will cost $140 for the Kymco? or otherwise? Thanks

Where you heard from? I also would like to know.

I would do a comparison by actually visiting the shops and do my homework before deciding, rather than hearing from people. End of the day I'm the one paying for the scooter. Things I would take into considerations like service, spare parts and support. Cheers.

I was advised by my shop which services both brands. The 100/140 is what I imagine. He didn't tell me the exact % of increase. But of course he did mention that the quality of Kymco parts are better, however, not as much better relative to the price diff of spares between Kymco & Sym. Hence he adv me that Sym can buy, but not the other, unless I am prepared to pay a premium for the parts. Also read elsewhere that Kymco has tie up with BMW which could be the reason. Sym's tie up is with Hyundai.

Hmmm I would suggest you drop by to shops that sells the scooter individual like Sym = Mah motor and Kymco = Motorsport. Then make you decision from there. It's only fair to yourself since you are paying not the bike shop.

FYI Kymco also had a tie up with Kawasaki too.

Cheers

Hi Baal, you have to really sit on the 2 scooters and feel for yourself. If possible, try to ride and feel the difference. I've got the opportunity to try the PCX, Sym Gts200. I'm riding a DT200i now and I can tell you it's really different....from the looks to the performance. I've researched for month after month for scooters before I decided with the Downtown. No Regrets!

With reference to the recent discussion on spare parts prices for comparison, that was the reason why I asked Bike Yong to give exact prices when asked by prospective buyers of Kymco. However, my effort was not needed as the answer was "The approximate cost is good enough".

In all fairness, accessories as far as I know is not under his charge. Everytime someone ask for parts price, he will hv to check with the relevant person to get the exact retail price.

Further more, in order to avoid conflict of interest, it wont b so nice to reveal their selling price here as i believe all their parts are tag with a RRP and i guess they could be sold lower than that. Hence, it would be better for de individual to go down to the shop to get the price.

But i do agree that maybe they could post the RRP so ppl will know +- de price they are expected to pay. But whose gonna do the updating of price sinCe he's always not around and most importantly, not under his work scope.

The above is just my personal view and I cud b totally wrong...

Thanks for Sharing bros. I will make my inferences from there. basically, I guess is looks & performance, Kymco wins. However, theres no free lunch. Indeed the DT looks damn good. cheers.
