Ducati Monster!!!

I love this bike! Yet to get my hands on one though....

was just wondering...is the 400 cc version an OLD one?

i can't seem to find a 400 cc bike on the minerva website...smallest cc is 620?

also, what's the estimated cost of getting one? 1st hand (if it's still available)?

else, can i get 2nd hand refurbised 400 monster from minerva? maybe it's like BMW cars and bikes....2nd hands are available from the distributor....

Thanks guys!

I was there at minerva a couple of days ago, i still see a few 400s in the showroom. LOOI motor has a few new ones as well. The present model is the same as the old. Only changes that they made to the monsters are the rear fender support for the lights , front rear signal lights and carbon fibre rear fender.

Takes time to look around for a used monster but shoudnt be too difficult. EXCEL currently have a 900 for sale. Dun think they have those pre-owned kinda thing like What borneo motors did for their lexus range or Performancemotors BMW...

Pre FR reg market rate is between 3600 to 5000. Hope this helps.

Could be so... Since the 400 is only meant for the Jap market. The Japs are very brand conscious, a big consumer market that every brand names will cater especially for them. From Red wing boots to Le Coq Sportif just to name a few... Labeled Japan Market only. H5 to the japs.

BTW, for those who are looking for the older 5-speed Monster 400s, there are "big bore kits" available overseas (minerva used to carry but not anymore). These are basically cylinder extensions that increase the Monster's capacity to 600cc!!

For examples of such kits (for larger capacity ducatis) See: http://www.foxperformanceengines.com/products.htm

Of course these are ILLEGAL, but TP hardly check as they are simply mounted on the piston tops and are hard to detect; and you'd have to be a big bore kit user yourself or a mechanic to be able to tell from what i heard.

Then New 2004 Ducati Monster 400 has twin front disc brakes and is 6-speed. But it costs a whopping 16 K upwards last i checked. :giddy:

16K is slightly more expensive than a brand new VtecIII. (Ok, not very slightly).

But anyway, there are always two versions of the Monster or Superbike, the Dark version, which is very basic, for people to buy their own parts to customise the bike, or the better versions (S, R etc), which comes with better parts, so noneed to upgrade.

MOst of the M400s on the road are the dark version I guess, single disc, no rear seat cover etc. Dark version comes with shorter gears also I think.
