Hi all,

I am riding a ybr125. My engine dies off after idling for a while at the traffic lights.

The problems goes off after I changed the spark plug or increase the idling speed.

But after a while, the problem came back.

Can anybody advise what is the problem with my bike.

Is it the magnetic coil or the carb problem?

Pls advise.

Thanks.

is your idling speed low?

normal idling speed should be around 1.5k rpm (+-100).

u can adjust your idle screw to set your idle speed

or u can also try adjust your air (pilot) screw.

air-screw is normally set at 1.5 turn out from all the way in

(do not over-tighten when turning all the way in).

u have to try either way loosen or tighten 1/4 turn,

check which side give better or easy startup.

Its at the right hand side. Anyway, your problem sounds like my bike last time. I had to change my magneto. But mine was at idling, the damn rpm slowly started to creep up until 4k! Then wanna start bike very hard. Must rev rev rev until rpm 2k. I faster ride to bike shop keep revving the engine wait i scared die suddenly. My mech say the coil spoil because too hot. So change now okay already.

Hi bro,

Need your advises on your last time problem.

1)when you say rpm creep up to 4k? why does your engine dies off like mine.

2)do your bike dies off at traffic light stop when idling?

3)does the engine feel like choking on and off?

4)Where did u change the magneto, how much?

Thanks alot!

Answers:

1) When it creeps high, it starts to stay there. Then when i try to release to biting point, it goes down. Have to keep doing it till i get below rpm 2k. Sometimes after it creep up, the thing will go down so fast, i have to rev rev a little wait later die.

2) The engine like want to die, so i have to keep reving a little bit to keep it alive. That time when it happened, i was already on the way to mech cause i felt it was very dangerous if happen on expressway. I never ride to work that day.

3) Yes. Engine like coughing. The stroke was very irregular. The "pump" was almost random and was randomly weak and strong on and off.

4) I change my coil at my mech shop at kallang there. Luckily my bike still under warranty so it was changed for free. I ask the mech how much normally, he say for YBR cheap only 100 plus, perhaps 150 bucks.

Bro. You list down the specs of your bike and stuff. I remember your symptoms like my bike last time. It happened when there was a long jam and a hot day. Then i realised about my problem.

Yup. Every week i have to tune my tiny little irritating screw that xXxRatedxXx keeps bugging me about! I always keep a phillips screwdriver in my box everytime.

its probably the idle jet setting in yr carb . Dont mess too much with the idle speed screw . Tune yr carb to the right air ratio first. On 2 yrs and older YBR, the air screw is below the carb. On newer dont know. The air screw is very hard to access you need a very short and small flat head driver or a small metal shim. Turn out anti-clockwise for more air (lean), and turn in clockwise for less air (rich). For air-cool engines and in our hot climate, a little rich mixture is better. Then adjust idle speed to 1500 rpm. If RPM goes up after riding some time, mixture is too lean. If maintain , its good. If RPM drop (rarely) its too rich and yr sparkplug will blacken much. Hope this helps
