Has anyone passed 2B, waited a year without riding at all, then pass 2A, waited another year without riding again and then pass class 2 and finally getting a bike?

I'm quite reluctant to get a bike just to hone riding experience because, i stand at 180 and most class 2B bikes (looking at sports bikes only) are too low for me and also, I have my own car - i wouldn't need 2 vehicles.

If you're planning on just jumping the gun and straddling a Class 2 bike, then you should really think it over. The reason the different classes exist is to ensure that you have the proper experience first, be it road or machine-handling, before you move on to a more powerful machine.

Riding a bike is unlike driving. Road users pay less attention to you when you're on two wheels. You may refute that you drive and pay attention to riders, but you make up only a small percentage. Ride, get used to it, get your Cl2 and enjoy it.

I had a 2B scooter (shared with someone else) but I didn't ride much because I didn't feel safe on the road. Can count the number of times I rode with my fingers. My current bike (S4) is my first proper bike. I do have driving experience so am quite accustomed to road conditions.

I hear of quite a lot of new rider, ride their bike in a multistorey carpark on a wet day and fall over when cornering and don't know why. Similarly I've seen riders making tight-turns and drop their bike during the manoveour.

It is best to gain such experience on a cheap-cheap 2B bike rather than a 40k Harley or 50k BMW :)

I did that. And I managed to pass the TP in 1 try for both class 2A and 2. Guess i still apply the lessons i learnt during 2B. check blindspot, etc etc. First bike i rode was super4(aster getting class 2). And yes, it was too powerful for me at that time. Near accidents a few times.

Hmm.. between 2A to class 2 i didn't ride at all.

I was so so nervous on my first class 2 lesson, that i forgot to thumb the starter after the ignition was on, and told the instructor i think there's a problem with the bike!

Dropped the bike, kept falling off the bumpy course, had a really tough time handling the cb750. It didn't help that i'm a small sized guy, but i'm glad it was ok at the end, still managed to pass first try, but not without some bruises.

I think it's definitely best to have some practical experience on the road if possible. Like Marcheline said, riding is really very different from driving.

Now i'm starting to worry a lot as well, cos i'm about to start riding after 3 years...

We all undertake a modicum of risk every time we thumb the starter - it's just inherent to the sport.

i think riding a class 2 bike compare to other smaller bike, it is a totally diffierent thing,

as power diff and braking diff too much different from small bike and the handling also big different..

have to start from zero, and learn everything again so no diff if start from riding class 2 as the first bike...

and class 2 bike is safer than smaller bike

due to the fact that it have better brake and power when u need to avoid other car and etc,

everything on the bike is of better spec than smaller bike,

hence i will say should be safer if it is not misuse..

plus don mean riding class 2 mean have to go fast... it is up to the rider...

but class 2b bike go fast harder to control compare to class 2 bike

im having the same issue.... my family recently gave me the green light to take my 2B, but now my sister wants me to wait a few years before i can get any bike.... earliest she said would be 2012....

but like many of you guys already said, waiting that long, upgrading license and not having riding exp in between is dangerous....

Cheap + fast = no good

Cheap + good = not fast

Good + fast = not cheap

I think shouldn't be a problem, but first a disclaimer: I don't have class 2. In many countries, USA being the most prominent, there are no separate classes and people learn on Hayabusas and litre bikes. Those are the crazier ones but most people learn on 600cc and above. Note that I am talking about learning, ie. totally new to riding. I have a friend who got SV650 for his first bike in US. If you have passed 2B and 2A it should be ok. Of course it is dangerous as the rest have noted, but my guess is that if people all over the world can do it, Singapore should not be too different. Traffic conditions are different, but we're just talking about controlling the bike here.

One more thing: I think the problem is whether you can stop yourself from getting 2B/2A bike. I had a plan like you too, because I wasn't interested in 2B bikes. But my butt got itchy, so I had to scratch it.

I've read many stories where a novice rider jumped onto a class 2 bike and killed themselves.

The class 2b,2a,2 is there for a reason.

yes, i'm very aware of that, and especially for the 1yr time frame needed to upgrade, i know road riding experience is needed for safety.. that's why i'm asking. haha.

sure thing. but you've got to check back in 3 years. ;p

anyway i think most accidents are btw bikes and cars, not bikes and bikes, right?

definitely can. i'm actually learning bike on the sly. i don't have my own income so i would have quite some trouble trying to explain how i spent >10k out of the blue. logically, only by the time i grad i can afford my own bike. (secretly again. haha) and that's 3 years down the road, just nice for a class 2.
