or slightly less.

You forgot to add a 1 in front of the 9, didn't you? :D

if u add a 1 or a 9 then u got to move the decimal place to the left once more.

if the new dukes has that signature deep throbbing bassy thumb of the old monsters, i wont hesistate considering another..............

ya...easy to mix up :-) but all look good still. its those signature headlights and the muscular body lines...woooohooo!

back to the monster...it looks like a big bike to me but why do SO MANY people who review it say its a good beginner's bike? hmmm...

i think cause in other countries 600cc is considered a small bike. then between an r6 and a 600cc monster i suppose the duc would be the better beginner bike

boring rider. with a boring bike.

too old to want to appear interesting anymore.

Heck! Even a 250kg, 883cc Harley is considered a beginner's bike for them. Machoism maybe. Only 1000cc and above are considered a man's bike or a real bike for them ..

If I may differ from the TS...

When the Monster 696 first came out I thought it was a thing of beauty too based on pictures. But having seen it a few times in real life, I think it has one "small" problem: it is very small! The riders look like they are too big for the machine. I also once saw it with a pillion rider. From far it really started to look like a 2B bike under the weight of the people on it.

Imho the nicest bike in the middleweight naked class is the Street Triple, followed by the new F800R.

hahaha...saw a street triple today actually at old upper thomson road..black one..solid!

italian bikes, especially street bikes, tend to look small. but i think that is also what gives them a unique look. some like it, others don't...

...i do like the monster still...hard not to like given how iconic it was...and still is today.

Warren...one day i will join you...unless i find an even more iconic bike at class 2a...and by then you will be class 2...hahaha!

Wah if 170cm is short. Then what am I .. I am 165cm :(

Anyway it's just a matter of getting used to it. I need to tip toe on my Street Triple but I'm used to it.

I used to tip toe even more when I was riding a Runner VXR200. I got used to it too. We are human, we can adapt to different bikes :D

Haha why did my name randomly pop up?

I would get and keep a Monster 900 for life if I have the money.

1) Get off and push.

2) Try to turn it around and throttle it up the slope.

Frankly, nearly every bike in 2A and above is hard to push backwards up a slope when on the bike so don't worry too much about it. You'll learn how to handle the weight in due time.

It is VERY rare that you will need to push bike upslope backwards. Infact I've never done it in my whole biking experience of 6 years.

Normally I prefer to come down and push the bike if it is too difficult to move while sitting on the bike. You got to learn how to push your bike confidently in all directions. It'll come in useful. I even push my 260kg Harley around the void deck. FYI I am not a muscle man. I am quite thin. It's all technique and practise.

Don't worry too much lah. As I've said, you'll adapt to it. This is how we evolved from the stone age to super high tech :)

I think it is important to know how to push in all directions. Pushing gives the best leverage and control whether up or down slope, forward or backwards.

I had to push backwards up a slope and over a hump once. I went into a multistorey carpark without a cashcard, thinking it was free for bikes. The barrier refused to open when I tried to exit. It was a very narrow single lane so I had to push backwards to go buy a cashcard. Talk about performing under pressure, there was a queue of cars behind and they had to reverse a bit to let me out. All staring at me wondering what this clown is doing. Luckily I did it without dropping, but by then I was really sweating under the helmet.

yes, imagine you are stuck coming out of a multistory carpark going downhill and suddenly you realise the barrier won't detect your bike! :faint:

happened to me... the auntie kept asking me to reverse the bike, i told her i couldnt cause there was a hump behind and made noise until they lifted the barrier to let me out

Wah lao. That really sucks like hell! Hope I'll never be in that situation on my Harley!! Street Triple still not so heavy to push.
